After being frustrated on the beta with this issue and subsequently after buying the retail copy of the game it felt like there was no hope of ever getting around to playing.

That's the original thread for people having problems with this issue, I tried all of these multiple times without any success. Please do give these a go though if you haven't already tried, they have worked for some people, just not all.

So the fix I found is that my GPU drivers weren't up to date, I use a nVidia 660-GTX. It's kind of an obvious one to check however, this is where it gets interesting.
According to my device manager and nVidia website they were all up to date and fine.

I actually have a separate program for managing my graphics on games called NVIDIA Geforce Experience which I had totally forgotten about. It was only after running this and updating it that it then realized my drivers were out of date.

I understand this might not work for many of you out there but please if you have any programs set to manage your graphics (I think Catalyst control center might be one?) make sure these are up to date or else there is a good chance it won't recognize if your drivers need updating as well.

If this even helps 1 person I will be happy. To the rest, keep searching and best of luck.
