Whats happening to the Dupers?

steven_shidiwenb16_ESO
Am i the only one wanting to know whats going to happen to the people that have been duping legendary materials to sell for gold, and keep for personal use.

Some people have been duping for up to 3 weeks now and have millions - 10s of millions and have 80 stacks of legendary materials. I would love to know what ZoS is planning to do about this.

If they have already stated a plan of action can someone post a link to it below so i can have a read? Thank you.

Oh I'm sure they'll tell you .. NOT!

Do you seriously expect them to say anything, at most I expect some bland "we're taking appropriate action"?

    Nah, you can't be serious.

No way to be sure, as ZOE doesn't disclose any of this information to the public. Chances are, unless they did it A LOT, nothing will happen to them except a warning in their e-mail.
  • steven_shidiwenb16_ESO
Would be nice to know they are at least taking action, so far they haven't even said if anything will be done about it.
  • steven_shidiwenb16_ESO
I have seen some Youtube videos of people with 80 stacks of Dreugh wax, duping it filming and selling with millions of gold. Gold and stuff isn't that needed in the game, but at a certain point its going to make a difference to the server.

From the other thread, two down on the list, asking the exact same thing...
Hey, folks. We are aware of the issue, and are working on a resolution. In the meantime, we have disabled guild functionality. We'll update you on when it's back on in this thread, so please keep an eye out there!

Strip their accounts of all assets and make their gold go negative what it they own on all characters until the debt is paid! :P

You have ten million? now you have minus ten million, go grind some!

    Too cruel?

On a serious note there is no official statement other than they're looking into it and will keep us informed, I would hope they ban the exploiters but even if they did it might not be public knowledge (though in these cases saying action will be taken should be enough).
I'm sure if bans are handed out for it you will see threads crop up elsewhere with people talking/complaining.

They won't need to make it public if they do a ban wave of everyone who duped i am sure we will see a flood of people complaining about being perma banned for duping only once and how they know someone who duped 100x more and didn't get banned.

Rather than handing out bans, I say give the offenders a "Cheater" title so they can be easily identified, then toggle their accounts so they can receive PVP damage in any area, even from friendlies. But, they can't fight back. That way the whole community gets to deal out our own punishments to them every time they play the game. Maybe after a duration they would be reintroduced into normal society, on a probationary basis of course.

Or just let Molag Bal imprison them in Cold Harbor for all eternity.

No, they will say they had extra items appear, and they had no idea how they got there. And that they are completely innocent.

zenimax isn't doing anything about it, I know several people who have done this since launch. All zeni will do is delete this post, just like they did the others so people don't realize how broke the economy really is.

Damn fine idea... but they'd need to have their ill gotten assetts removed also!

I still do not understand why people insist on thinking that they are not being watched while they play. Just because Zenimax is not standing there next to you in game does not mean that they are not watching you. Just because they do not take immediate action does not mean that they will take no action at all, or that you will even see it when they do.

They better do something and something severe and serious or they are going to lose the faith of paying subscribers like myself. I've been defending and supporting this game since before launch against it's detractors but if they don't fix this issue and I mean seriously fix the in-game economy I'm out.

When they start losing fans like myself then they know they are in trouble.

the economy is already so screwed up because of this, and there are thousands of duped items already in the world. the only thing they could do to make it right is to fix the dupe and roll back servers and relaunch.its not right that someone who started playing last week could already have a million gold and a pile of legendarys.

They can track item and currency acquisition. They will be able to detect the majority of abusers. All of them should be banned, simple as that.

what about the people who have been buying these dupes cheap for weeks and maxing out crafting,do you reset all the crafters? and how about the fools buying all the legendarys and blowing through content with them?do you not count all those kills? I believe a relaunch is the only way to make it fair for people who have not bought these items.

It's tough for sure, ZOE is gonna have to make a call. They have access to the real metrics showing the extent of the issue. I hope based on the data analysis they have they will be able to make the right judgement call about how far to take things to save their game.

it should be very simple to find what accounts have the gold and punish them.

I remember when Runes of Magic implemented a ranking of the most wealthy characters. This was several years ago.
Everyone saw who were the "potential" goldsellers in each server. The ranking didn't last long due to complains. lol

Well, those have nothing to do with it really, they could not know, until now that is :).

But the bank balance, and guild inventory should show very quickly, who's done it, and who hasn't. Couple of 100K's? sure, it's douable, hard, but possible. Simply match the login time of an account, to the balance, and they'll see the trends quickly. It'll be tedious and long, but I recon those people should be punished, severly. Maybe not ban them, unless they have some goldseller reports against them.

But a normal player, well, a warning, as in a final warning that any other activites like this, will get him/her permanently banned, with the removal of gold gained and assets, would be more than enough really. :)

"In 2014, a possible bot was sent to coldharbour by a military GM for a crime she didn't commit. This argonian promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Ebonheart underground. Today, still wanted by the developers she survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a bot problem, if no one else can bite you, and if you can find her....maybe you can hire The SQUISHY."

Best idea I've ever heard. If they do this then we'll known for sure how Zenimax feels about cheaters. Would be nice to see some real action like this.

Don't rollback....instead ban the dupers, remove the items in game that are still left, the rest will work itself out over time.

Well I guess that cheating really rewarding if this game if they don't do anything about it. Too bad the rest of us will be the cheater's playthings in anything regarding the economy and in Cyrodiil. Oh well.

Ok I agree with many of you in saying that this is a foul situation, for Zenimax, Dupers, and other players. While it has destroyed some aspect of the game I don't believe Zenimax will or should do a relaunch. Many players, myself included, have paid our dues since launch and early access creating our characters, maxing their skills & levels, and making it to end game content while remaining mostly self reliant. So do you think its fair for us to roll back just because of a few people who decided that its better to cheat a system rather than work for it? Many MMO's and other online games have had duping glitches since the 90s, and the only "true" fix is to eliminate the glitches and ban players who clearly participated in the act of duping and wipe out their items and gold. As for the economy, I've seen worse situations in many other games, and usually after the developers take action to stop further mishaps the economy fixes itself with time. With the release of new content, new players, and extended play time all those duped items and "saved" money will dissolve itself back within the game itself.

ZOS may as well close this thread. They've been running on thread closure overload tonight because of their stupid maintenance schedule.

The last thing they will do is make a statement about what they are going to do. They are flat out making any statements except thanking us for our patience.

    So, thanks for your patience!

I would do the same, admitting this in public and informing most of the people of what's going on wouldn't be wise... But inaction might turn out to be equally harmful.

Honestly, if they could offer me a fresh restart on a new server without dupes and this absurd amount of bots, then I would say goodbye to me level 41 character.

The only option for a fresh restart is switching to the console release or a new server as you suggest would save the PC version of the game. The guilds that took advantage of the exploit passed around thousands of stacks of these legendary mats and one youtube video of a guild shows almost a half million gold in an account with their duped legendary stacks. I don't see how the integrity of the PC version of the game can ever be regained unless all legendary crafted items and mat stacks are just wiped across the board. The exploiters and guilds that allowed this are so far ahead of the average player we just need to move on to a fresh start somehow.

The only reason to get early access was to have a headstart and through legit playing be the top player. Now everything was abused. Mad levelling, Cyrodill kill players quest, duping, bots, gold sellers. A LOT of people got an advantage and not in the legit way, which we paid for. Correct all those bugs, perma ban everyone involved and restart the server for good or offer a new server to play on.
