You only get billed after 30 days. If you cannot provide a credit card or other payment plan for some reason, please log a support call here: https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/ask

You have to select a subscription option before your 30 days free time begins. This has been answered by ZOS staff on a number of occasions, such as here.

NO, it is as intended.

If you don't want to play past your free 30 days you can cancel your subscription before that time is up. Right on the box it states you need a valid payment method. They validate your payment method in the sub form.

If they had simply authorized around$1.00 to validate the payment form they would have saved themselves a lot of calls and complaints, because no one would confuse that with being charged for the first month.
