A Dream Crafting Feature

I've been really enjoying the game since launch and crafting (smithing in specific) has been incredibly addictive. I can't get my hands on enough ore to keep up with it! One thing I was thinking today as I pounded out a new sword and set of armour for my Dragon Kinght is it'd be neat if we had a "designer" for what we were smithing similar to the character designer.

Hear me out, make it optional with a bunch of presets but if we could select the hilt, cosmetic details, size, etc. Restrict certain aspects based on level, quality, material, improvements like using Rubies etc, and maybe cosmetic packs where it opens up more options but wouldn't this be a fun thing to do? When a smith hammers a sword from molten steel it's their personal touch that makes it their own.

This could add an entire new layer on to the game allowing for some really unique combinations. I imagine creating a sword with a hilt of my choosing, the ruby that I used to imbue it with power sitting on the hilt and a blood groove running down the centre of the blade.

Anyhow, I know it's pie in the sky thought but just wanted to put it out there.

I would love to see more customization like this. Would play in to the whole house concept too if they ever get to that. Crafting intricate pieces once you master a trade and use them to decorate your home. Would be cool for sure

It seems to me that this would only bottleneck crafting further. I know a woman who can quite literally spend two hours on a character creation screen, especially one with a great many options.

I suppose there could be an option for more detailed customization and those who want it can use it and spend two hours crafting a sword and those who don't just make them as is. But from a development perspective, I don't know that this should take a priority.

Sorry you are not being given the options you want but it just doesn't seem feasible or prudent when there are so many other things that are actually broken a la quests and Snakeblood in the Alchemy line.

It'll be a huge bonus to crafters, true. But can you imagine how much lag it'll create with everyone having a custom look?

It would be a whole new level of customization. I Like that idea!

Maybe with todays engines and technology it wouldn't affect as much as we think.

Oh I'm not all bummed out it'd just be neat some time in the future down the road. Also to the time sink element just have it so you can use a standard template and then tweak and then it gets rid of that. People who aren't interested could just ignore it. It'd just be neat is all. :-)

Good point but building it around something similar to the character creator how much difference would it make? We've already got a pretty elaborate character generation tool anyhow it's pie in the sky dreams I don't ever expect but would be neat. :-)
