Somehow they have now messed with the chat so when you ignore its not them you are ignoring, they now cant be ignored, EU megaserver in Glenumbra right now.

Edited title to remove misleading "Hacked" comment after it being found what it was.

    So, the plot thickens. Wonderful.

Would you take a screenshot of this? Maybe record some video footage and upload it here? If what you're saying is true, then this already rampant issue just grew worse while Zenimax has slept on the matter. If it wasn't game-breaking earlier, it certainly is now.

Are you sure they're not using the old trick of creating a new line of text that starts off with a fake name?

    [actual spammer]: blahblahblah
    [fake name]: free candy

Screenshot. Or we have to asume it is a PEBKAC.

There are so many possible mistakes you could have made, it boggles the mind how you can even think they "hacked the chat".

In all honesty, the game is so buggy that I wouldn't be surprised if they found a hole in it.

You would have to right-click their real character name to ignore them.

Thus, if they create a second line/name by entering a lot of blank spaces and then putting a [fake name] in brackets as so, you would be unable to click the fake name since in reality it is just part of the whole message.

Here is your screenshot, I was just going to post a discussion about it.

This text and the text of the other users keeps repeating, though it would be really *** if they start putting in real names of legitimate players in there who gets banned instead of the real goldspammer

Furthermore I could click on all the 3 names (do**, that random letter name and D***)

Edit: removed the names to be in line with ToS / name and shame section

Maybe yes, maybe no. I wouldn't be surprised if the hackers have grown even more aggressive though, as its already such a prevalent issue with this game, and this kind of stuff only grows worse until it's stopped.

You might try ignoring the 2nd name from the top. That seems to be the real spammer.

Thank you for this. Just when we thought it couldn't get any worse. While we really do need a better system to report these people, Zenimax needs to be the one who is on top of the matter.

Ok so not hacked the chat so literally but certainly found a flaw in the chat to exploit.

Wish these guys would get it, they get ignored for a reason!

    They've used this trick before.

    But instead of

    [spammer]
    [fake name]

    it is now

    [spammer]
    [fake name]
    [fake name 2]

They just added another layer of fake text to confuse people.

Ah, so it's like the old WoW trick with the GM impersonating

    [General][Bob]: I like pie
[General][GM]: Please logout for 5 minutes.

2nd line not being an actual GM but the 1st poster using Space to reach the 2nd line and then writing it.

I would know, I got a warning in WoW for impersonating a GM 7 years ago. :D

Because this is the mentality of a gold seller. 50 no's and a yes is still a yes. Not to mention the post the other day about some girl crying bc her bf was banned for gold buying. She shed a few tears and got him reactivated ... so there is s market of people buying and zenimax will happily overturn your ban as long as you can send your GF in to shake her booty.

He wasnt buying gold, he actually was giving her the amount she needed to buy a mount. Thats why he got unbanned.
The thing is: Why didnt they punish her? I mean she was buying gold in the opinion of Z, why only him?

Until Zenimax reigns in the issue themselves, there really won't be much that we can do, even with our addon chat filters because the hackers and spammers will keep setting up more and more dupes and methods to keep their practice going.

That's correct indeed (the structure), when I reported and ignored the first name in the row, 5 minutes later he appeared again same message and names EXCEPT the top level name.

I find it difficult at best to find something to say about this, but I will give it a try anyway.

I keep hearing people say and reading posts about how this was a smooth launch.
Even the people at Zenimax have said so.

Yet I see countless posts on the forums here daily, about people not being able to log in, the subscription BS, broken quests that prevent people from progressing, bots and gold sellers.
And now they start doing this?

This game should never have been released when it was, it should still be in beta, and it dont look like much is being done to stop this either.
Zenimax is only being reactive, rather than proactive.
Instead of thinking ahead and trying to prevent things from happening, they wait until things go wrong and then they fix it.

Maybe in a year this will be a good game, unfortunately by then it will be far too late, most people will have left and the game will have gone F2P, most likely also P2W for them to be able to even sustain the game for the few people who do play it.

This game is hilariously terrible and soooooo f2p very soon. Still it's tons of fun to watch people trying to play it and hitting brick walls of bugs and gold spammers.

To be fair, they are not hacking the game or anything of the sort. They're just using a clever tactic that makes it appear as though the names can't be clicked and ignored. Those names are simply decoys, where the real spammer lies in the lines above.

[real spammer] <bunch of empty spaces to create a false line of text below>
[fake decoy name] <gold spam here>

My god some people do seem to like that the game is in their eyes going down by the minute and scream F2P in every post involving issues, I'm not because I really enjoy playing this game, and I really hope they act hard and quickly soon. I agree that they need to be more pro-active and some issues should not be allowed to go live, nevertheless don't compare them to big mammoth studio's like Blizzard etc. They are young/new in the field and need to learn from their mistakes and IMO it would be sad to see this game going F2P / P2W. Yelling these terms at every issue doesn't accomplishes anything, it only drives people away which would give them a fair chance otherwise.

I never said anything about hacking, I never even mentioned the word.
I know what they are doing, but it dont make it any less annoying and frustrating for legitimate players.
I was talking about how Zenimax waits until there is a problem before they even begin to do anything about it, rather than try to think ahead and then try to prevent it from being a problem in the first place.

It should never have been possible for it to be possible to do something like what is described here in the first place, there is no reason for anyone to have that many spaces before they type anything.
Make it so there can be max 5 spaces before a sentence and the problem is solved, I dont see how that is difficult to do.

This thread was originally titled 'gold sellers have hacked chat' and I assumed you were referencing that when you said 'and now they start doing this?'.
