We updated today to the latest patch. It messed up the game. Keep getting that and do repair and nothing happens. Run diagnostics and click apply, then repair again still can not get into game
What gives ?

My client started today, without doing any patching. So I pressed the repair tool, which downloaded about 40mb. Now it tells me:

    Error 209, Patch ManifestError_VersionFail

Unable to determine current version. Please run the Game Consultant Tool.

The tool tells me nothing new, I've run the game fine for 3 Beta and since early release.

And without changing anything, I can now login.

Feels like we were Beta testing the Game Consultant Tool, which btw, says there is a newer version available.

How do we update Game Consultant if we have a Manifest Error 209 that REPAIR does not remedy?

After clicking Uninstall, I am now in the process of a re-Install of the NA Client. I will unfortunately also need to do this for the EU Client.

ZOS Admin: Any comp subscription time? I have spent a full day troubleshooting and self-remediating Manifest Error 209 and the process is not yet complete.

    Having the same issue.

As a side note, I've read from other users that uninstalling and reinstalling has done no good--you get the same error. That may not be true for everyone, though. I'm not going to try because I'm not going to waste bandwidth until we hear from ZOS about a permanent fix.

Same here, with 209/301 and even a 306 (I think, unable to unzip patch files). I even patched (or so I thought) earlier right after the servers came up....ran fine for most of the day then I got booted and started this with this mess. Now I can get into game, but it's the old version.

If you are still getting this, just close and open the launcher until you can download the patch, or if your patch is installed, Play the game.

Launcher Update and Patch Manifest Error 209 bit me, too!

At first all seemed well. With the Launcher OPTIONS set to the NA Megaserver, the Update and Patch seemed to complete surprising quickly with my 35GB/ps broadband connection.

After the NA Update completed, I used OPTIONS to change to the EU Megaserver. The moment I clicked Apply a Manifest Error 209 appeared with a message it was unable to determine the current installed version. Ran Game Consultant, closed the Launcher, restarted the Launcher and ran Game Options > Repair.

Weirdly, the first couple of times I tried to run Repair it opened a browser to an ESO Support topic instead of starting the Repair process. The next couple of times there was a similar response but to different, apparently random ESO Support KB pages.

Finally Repair started and completed, followed by a couple of file verification iterations. To be safe I closed the Launcher, shut down and restarted the PC.

After the reboot when I started the Launcher, the REPAIR button appeared instead of PLAY. Clicking REPAIR brought another Manifest Error 209. I re-ran Game Consultant. When it completed I also clicked the Game Consultant's check for update option. That option showed a newer version was available, but no way to get the Game Consultant update. No explanatory text, but I suspect Game Consultant updates are only available through a successful Launcher Update and Patch.

I quit Launcher and did another system shutdown > restart. Launcher again showed REPAIR, so I re-read the Manifest Error 209 KB FAQ. The only thing not yet tried was to click Game Options > Uninstall, then Install the Client software. Hopefully this is a fresh install. I fear I will need to repeat this Uninstall > Install process for the EU Megaserver.

ZOS must ramp up a hotfix and support options for these critical Launcher Update and Patch errors while continuing to fix serious bugs in-game for Inventory, Guild Banks and Stores, social functions, and the increasing invasion of Gold Farmers and other Trolls.

These many severe issues only ten days after public Launch must be remedied if ESO is to survive. It is somewhat incredible that even with the extensive Closed Beta testing and ongoing PO tests, that huge bugs like these were not uncovered earlier. The late pre-Early Access Stress Tests alone should have uncovered at least the worst of these problems. Perhaps ZOS did not allot enough resources to analysis of the massive bug report data submitted, not to mention integral telemetry data.

ZOS was also ill-prepared for some of the most insidious of Molag Bal's horde of minions lurking and awaiting Launch: Massive intrusion by experienced, technically and malevolently expert Trolls, Gold Farmers and others waiting to exploit another major social game community -- ESO.

At the moment my main focus is visualizing an ultimately successful re-install of the ESO Client for NA, followed by a successful re-install of the EU client. I will patiently submit comprehensive and detailed bug reports and Support Requests to ZOS as I work through this process. I hope others in the dedicated group of long-term Beta Testers also take a similar constructive approach.

Once I can again explore Tamriel, I will consider my first month of gaming as a continuing post-Beta "Gamma" Test. We can hope ZOS offers some comp subscription time. May the Blessings of the Nine help us all to survive this current challenge to Tamriel.

    Constructive feedback welcome.

Hope to see you online sometime soon.

Post from ZOS_JessicaFolsom gives a tip to delete the .version files, close the Launcher, then restart the Launcher. The Launcher should then Update. FYI. I'm trying this now after deleting the .version files.

If you are getting error 209, please try the following: •First, please ensure you are accessing the game via the launcher, not the .exe file.
•Try closing out of the launcher and re-open it, then run a repair.
•If you try to repair and it does not work, please delete all .version files in the game's sub folders and try repair again.

*Please note that if you do delete all .version files, the launcher may require you to re-download the game.

    Edit: for clarification

likely a server outage trying to reach the launcher. I had the same thing and ran the diag. Saw a 100% timeout at hop#9 during the ping to the launcher server. Gave it some time and it fixed itself.

I always hate to disagree with Jessica Folsom, but I think that this is the wrong advice for today.

As with anything, it is up to the person, but I figured out that if you just restart the launcher a few times, things will sort themselves out. Each time the error appears, close and restart the launcher until it works.

People can do as Jessica suggests, if they want. I didn't. Instead, I waited for the launcher to connect to the server properly. As near as I can tell, same outcome, less file deletion. Also less repair and less reinstall.

Ok here is my Update if you have followed my reply's in this thread you know its been a long day.

I just got done installing a clean download of the Game from my account download link.
it was a 22GB download followed by 65mb, 65mb, 5gb, 35mb and 47mb patch of the game files...

The game is looking as it is working without error 209 problems.
Now on a side note before all of this I was using the "BETA ver of the game patched to the LIVE ver of the game." Not sure if that is what the problem is or not. But I wanted to throw it out their... If any Dev's or GM's are still looking into this..

When I launch the game it now states Ver 1.0.0.968197
Again I do not know if that is todays patch or what not but the game is working for me it at least now started to the log in screen and the game let me play.

I have tested this 4 times now with no more error's or any problem at all

I know this is not what a lot of you want to hear But I can say 100% unlike others who have stated these so called delete and replace files etc. This method does work

    Super Sad Face.... :(

I am sorry you had to reinstall your game. Hopefully they will have the servers updated soon and people will stop getting this error.

After not patching and finally getting it to I now get this error - Honestly why isn't a fix out for it already - WHY do WE have to do all this run around to get something to work that they screwed up and ignore us in the process - if this is what I can expect all the time then don't expect me to continue a sub

Hi I had this issue and did the following and it seemed to fix it.

In the Launcher folder Drive:\Zenimax Online\Launcher there is a file called Bethesda.net_Launcher.version I renamed it to something else and reloaded the launcher as administrator.

It went through an update and generated a new .version file

    Win 7 x64

Update: was able to get in game but it looks like the issue has returned.

Can we have a technical administrator post this up as a known patch issue for 1.0.3?? I'm having the same issue as well after patching. Can someone fix this server issue or acknowledge this needing to be addressed?

We feel that Client uninstalling and re-downloading 22GB of data is utterly ridiculous. What, do you think we have all the time in the world to waste as subscribers?

The 209 Error (inability to verify version) should be resolved as of earlier today. Please let us know if anyone continues to encounter this issue.
