Why is there so much Wood Elf story/quest areas?

Hullo.

I was just wondering why there is so much focus on Bosmer on the AD side. I am currently level 37 AD and it seems except the two "starter islands" it's 90% Bosmer orientated.

I personally detest Bosmer as a race as they're annoying accents (all done by the same two people it seems) coupled with their silly customs and beliefs as well as landscapes filled with ghastly trees.

I knew Bosmer would feature in the storyline of AD, but i didn't realise nearly all of my questing would be for them.
As someone who plays/RPs Orsimer and Dunmer characters exclusively i just want to tell them to stick their quests right up their [expletive deleted].

Btw, what other faction has lots of quests AGAINST the Bosmer? As i seek to get my revenge of the tree hugging simpletons.

Yours.. A peeved off Orsimer.

I do wish there were more Khajiit quests, but then again...it is because I always play as a Khajiit ;)

The Bosmer customs are kind of silly, only ever eating meat for the most part. I would hate to get a kiss from one of them (nasty breath)...or Alkosh forbid walk past some of their poo in the woods :| That is, of course, if the lack of fiber has not completely impacted their bowls...

It feels like there is a lot of Bosmer since you are working through their homeland and they have a big homeland. Grahtwood, Greenvale, & Malabal Tor are all parts of the Valenwood. After the first quest into Reaper's March it switches to Khajiit, so you have that to look forward to. (And its BEAUTIFUL savannah!)

In other games they usually rotate the lore focus around a bit faster and in more bit-sized pieces, but in AD's case they're digging deep into the Silvenar/Green Lady replacement and it takes a while to flesh that out.
MMOs don't usually replace the leadership for all of the alliance's races in the leveling content and that sort of thing doesn't happen overnight.
  • Lysistrata
Hmmm? Personally, I find Grahtwood and especially Elden Root beautiful and novel - Altmeri architecture was actually kinda plain compared to what I was expecting, I'm just holding out hope that Auridon has less advanced, more utilitarian architecture due to being a warzone, and that when it's released, we'll see something much more spectacular on Alinor.

I quite like the Bosmer accents too (they definitely have more than 2 voice actors) - they're much better than the generic voices not tailored to any race in Skyrim and the uniform elven voice acting in Oblivion. I think the Bosmer's main trait to distinguish them from other elven races is how comically annoying they stereotypically are, in some ways.
  • Matt.vanelsenb16_ESO
The reason why you're running into so many bosmer is because 3/6 of the zones for the AD are currently in their territory. Auridon is altmer territory and khenarti's roost and reaper's march are kahjiit territory. In the future, when we get the main island of the summerset isles and the rest of elsweyr as a playable area you'll be seeing a lot more altmer and kahjiit, don't worry about that. Once you're done with malabal tor that should be the last bosmer zone you'll ever run into.

I dont mind the bosmer "zone" , i like their lore and so on, but honestly , the AD story just goes down hill.

The first island is awesome(auridon) , but after that , each zone only gets worse and worse (atleast until the last zone , i just started this one so cant really talk yet)

    Ummm... Well lets see...

+ Elden Root is the AD capital.
+ Most of AD areas are in Valenwood.

That's why there are so many Bosmer quests.

TBH I don't get why your annoyed by it. I've learned a lot more about the Bosmer then I knew before. I'm sure the other areas will open up in the future.

I'm not really annoyed as such, I just dislike Bosmer in general.
I didn't know much about Bosmer either until i trawled through three zones worth of "heal the forest blahblah" quests.

I agree that there was too much wood elf and too little of khajiit and altmer. Just my opinion.

Does anyone know what the Bosmer accents are supposed to be? To me they sound like a mixture of Australian and Cockney. It's a little disconcerting. Other than that, I love them - my main is a Bosmer Nightblade, at least I never have to hear her speak ;)

Pardon my moralizing in public, but it seems to me that classifying an entire people good or bad, in this case the Bosmer, really isn't right. It is investing a virtual reality with virtual racism and shouldn't be encouraged. They are represented as individuals and if a player judges those representations then they should be judged individually.

Yes, yes I know it is only a game, but the way we game has influence with our world views. It shouldn't be acceptable to be virtually racist, even in a game, because the reasoning we use to accommodate virtual racism may bleed over into our personal realities.

I still must resolve whether I am just being intolerant, itself an at least questionable behavior, but I do wish to caution us in this matter. If some players are particularly sensitive to questions of racism or prejudice, and I suspect as human beings some of us rightly are, then we should be more considerate of our attitudes about virtual events than some of us appear to be.

@Silent, all three factions verily chafe with racism. Argonians hate the Dunmer who are barely tolerate the Nords who can't see the benefit of the Elves or Lizards. Redguard barely tolerate the Bretons who see themselves as superior to everyone and neither can stand the Orcs. And Altmer hate everyone and everyone hates them in return!

It's the racial strife that gives the stories their political undercurrents and I, for one, am enjoying the hell out of hating Altmer.

My AD character hasn't reached Bosmer territory yet, but I look forward to it, despite always playing Altmer in TES games. I expect we'll get to fill in the entire map eventually, so saving Summurset for dessert is fine with me.

In any case, I'm finding all the races and territories interesting. I guess wide curiosity is a blessing. :)

The Thalmor aren't evil...neither is the Dominion. Thalmor/First Aldmeri Dominion in the Second Era =! Thalmor/Third Aldmeri Dominion in the Fourth Era.

My problem with the Bosmer is how inconsistently they seem to be portrayed at times.
It is wrong for the Bosmer to harm trees, but totes fine to hire a mage to do it instead.
Eating a potato deserves corporal punishment, yet Vinedusk Rangers seem fine with burning their own tree village.

One moment, Green Pact is serious business, and if broken, the very forest will rise up and brutally murder your village if broken, another moment, it is treated more as a suggestion or a guideline.
And yes, they tend to be pretty annoying.

Also, seems that Meat Mandate is no longer a rule (even the (new) Faction leader called it old fashioned).

I think the quests you are referring to are happening in reapers march. This is no longer part of valenwood and thus out of reach of their god's rule. Thid what makes the most sense to me.

I do have the explorers pack obviously, i like playing characters that stand out amongst the norm.
Also, what's with the child calling? that's a little random i thought. As someone whom is 37 and made only a semi-serious thread i didn't expect that.

Dekka, I guess what he/she means is that, if you didn't like the Bosmer, then why did you play in an alliance that had them? Just a guess anyways, but I do agree that the name calling was slightly random, even though I do understand the point.

Yeah, I understand that, and I'm kinda with you on it. Being a Bosmer myself, I had no idea that so many of the quests would be around the Bosmer race. It's really cool to see Elden Root and everything, but I do agree that it was a bit much. I would love to see more of the Khajiit lands, considering I love them almost as much as I love the Bosmer.
