Or am I forced to play with the yolosugardaddys of the world? (Yes this person exists!!)

My immersion is slowly going down and down as more and more inappropriate names, random chat over zone and people jumping about all over the place like hyperactive bunnies.

Sorry to say but expecting 'immersion' in a MMORPG i just going to end in tears. Especially with such a limited API for god knows why, things like nameplates, chat bubbles and all other things which would assist with 'rp' aren't likely to happen.

My fiancé and I do a little rp here and there. Just for kicks. This game screams rp in my opinion. All the little emotes. The random sayings of NPCs and etc.

But we don't get into it deeply. Usually you will find us walking enjoying the scenes together (my gosh there are some beautiful ones, in fact some make some wonderful desktop pictures) or walking our horse along a patch. Sometimes I will play the lute and he'll tell a little funny story.

But it is just for fun and nothing serious.

I've not had any problems being able to rp in this game. Just not seeing any real RP guilds out there, so that has limited the fun I can have just to trying to find people at local inns.

I'm going to say what I have said to others with this and I don't think it will make me popular with you but... if another players name ruined your ability to RP you're not really very good at RP.

The things you NEED for RP are characters, a setting and a chatbox, everything else is there only to enhance it.
There will always be players in MMOs there to ruin your RP even with enforced names and RP servers you will have people come on just to troll and get a rise out of the RP players.
The best way to avoid this is to use party chat or form raid groups for those RP'ing and have everyone set up a new chat filter which only shows emotes, party and raid chat then to just ignore the man with his pants off jumping up and down on your table.

Find areas away from others, ignore trolls and they will just go away, you can ignore them if they spam chat or messages. If you haven't already find an RP guild and work with them (there is a dedicated forum section for RP recruitment).

I come from EVE Online where I do RP with the wider community and within my Corp/Alliance, there is nothing enforced or special about how the game is set up in regards to the RP community and many of the great channels and forums used were made and moderated by RP players.

there is no roleplay on roleplay servers in most other mmo's
What do you expect here? They did not even think about the problem that account names in guild chat pose for e.g. roleplay guilds, because that way you could find like minded people. But than you would have guildchat not with has-tough-scale but rather with @schizo1990

Helpful tip: Turn off Zone chat. No good comes of a zone chat imo. Buyers, sellers, trolls and fools mostly. Sure there's the occasional sane person, but overall I find I enjoy the game a lot more if I just use a custom tab with zone chat disabled. Any serious role-player is going to be using the local Say chat if they're open world RPing anyhow. Also there are large RP guilds out there you can join on both the EU and US servers if you're into that "I only RP when invited to an event" type of playing, and there's a couple that are set up simply to help you find other like-minded role-players. Point is, you have to do the work and walk the extra mile in any MMO to make role-playing work for you in the way you want it to. And never stop asking the devs to make changes that support those things you want to see added.

Chat bubbles are definitely more helpful than looking at a dinky, little box on the side and then mousing over each toon to figure out who said what.

As a yahoo rp back in the day (White Wolf Vampires no less!). If you really want to rp, you will find a way even with the distractions, because there is always distractions.

Nameplates and chat bubbles are not necessary to rp anything or tell a good story. What is required is someone or some people that wish to join in. ESO has a great set up for rp as I said above, a little imagination and the will ...you can have rp. There is also no need for large guilds to do this either..

Just my opinion as a rp from back in the day when we used yahoo chat, words, and imagination.

Chat bubbles make sense. Nameplates don't increase immersion. If you're RPing, zone chat should be off. Really, it only makes sense to be able to see /say in chat.

If you see names outside of the TOS just report them.

I started up a Guild just for people that like RPing light or heavy. I'm planning on making it a laid back place where people can have fun and not worry about racing to level cap or pwning nubs in PvP... did I just type that?! :) Anyways, I like to RP, explore and get LOOT! Not worried about making it to 50 or anything else but having fun and not making the game like a job.
Want to become Vampire? 5k @ZiRM in game.

I don't RP but I want nameplates for other reasons namely to identify who's running around with or around me and for pvp (kill on site list)

Besides in the beta npc's/mob dialogue would show up as text in the chat panel but was removed come launch. We don't even have chat bubbles or that feature at launch. ZOS went from one extreme to the next...
Chat bubbles are definitely more helpful than looking at a dinky, little box on the side and then mousing over each toon to figure out who said what.
    And this. EXACTLY THIS.
Whoever thought pointing your cursor over everyone and everything to see what it is really needs a kick up the ass.

Names and titles should be an option to have on or off. Where are the titles in this game? Only PvP? Neverwinter at least did this correctly. I want to show my name, title and Guild name.

yeah it's sort of there but it's isnt. It's more obtrusive than anything :/
I'd love a definitive answer from ZOS why the API was butchered the way it was 2 beta's before live.

    Certainly wish there were (op)

The megaserver, in my opinion, is an epic fail, combined with an lack of forsight in implementing controls aimed at gold farmers & botters. It threatens this franchise not unlike Aliens 3 threatened it's own.

What remains of course to be seen, is whether or not the numbers will add up.
As it is "We'll always have Star Citizen."
..If that one's borked, it's likely our fault.
