Dealing with Gold sellers and Bots

zeeaccount
You have already considered this and there may be some reason why you don't implement it but I thought just in case you hadn't I would put my ideas down.

How I would approach Gold spammers.

The key is to make it as unprofitable as possible. The key is that they have to advertise. That is there weak point. I am assuming that they have to buy the full client like the rest of us. At £50 that is a considerable outlay.

So closing them down fast means that the cost per advert goes up considerably.

So add an option when you right click on there name to "report gold sales". it should be as simple as that, no follow up questions or form to fill out. When you get a set number of reports from players you close down the comms for that account. That then gets flagged up at the help desk and they make the call. They can then delete the account. If it is legit and Players are taking the *** then the comms can be reinstated, and maybe those player ability to report gold spammer is removed.

Ideas for dealing with bots:-

Same sort of thing, have an interaction option that says report bot. When you get enough reports it forces the person to enter a code (those ones that can't be screen read). repeat offences are reported to the help desk.

other ideas:-
You can only collect loot off bosses once an hour

If you stay in the dungeon for more than a set time hours you are logged out

Xp diminishes the more of one type of creature you kill.

I agree, EVE Online has a pretty strong player policing on bots/gold sellers with options to report them via a single right click option.
They even go to that a single report in this way global mutes the gold seller, abuse of this leads to account suspension or bans.

The abuse I could see from that is that botters/goldsellers could start making false reports just to clog up and slow down the reporting process.

    1. Given the bot infestation we have that's probably a reasonable compromise between trying to kill this off as a worthwhile exploit for RMT/cheaters and preventing legitimate farming of a mob for a specific item.

    2. No, farming trash is a perfectly normal method of grinding XP or items. Yes, it can be abused by RMT but on the basis of "if it can be used for evil, ban it" should be we ban digital cameras because they can be used to abuse children?

    3. NO, see (2).

Here's a way to deal with gold sellers: (real unpopular opinion incoming) - disable trade. Nothing can be bought or sold, everyone progresses through the game, if it drops, then yay, if it doesn't, they have to fight another day for it, like in a single player game. Probably 99% of people get outraged at this idea, but I am level 39, and so far haven't sold or bought a single thing, I have plenty of gold and all the gear I need to progress in this game.

Maybe only enable trading after v2, to support hardcore gamers/raiders. Doubt a gold seller will raise their character to v+ just to get it banned fast.

Or just disable trading under level 10.

'Living off the land' was a well-loved method of playing Diablo 1 and 2 and is something I enjoy.

That said, a game has to be designed with that in mind, and clearly ESO is nothing like that due to the lousy drop rates and a crafting system patently designed to force players to craft or grind gold to pay crafters.

Crafting should be an OPTION but in this game it isn't because there is no worthwhile source of leveling gear from quests (too few quests give gear) or mobs.

Your observation of gear being adequate frankly is at odds with others I've discussed this with who all said 'world' sources of gear wasn't adequate.

I think the last part is best, I can deal with that.
