Dream-Walk Into Darkness Bug

christian.griffinb16_ESO
This quest is the stupidest thing ever.

I get to the part about 'Defeat the Ancient Warriors'. For starters, like, fourteen of them jump me at the same time. With my Ultimate up I can usually manage it, BARELY - without it I'm down in seconds flat. They don't go for the Montclaires, they just all bumrush ME specifically and I'm down.

On the RARE occasion I actually manage to outlast the horde of bad guys, the quest promptly bugs and the Montclaires will not advance, just standing there staring intently at the scenery, as though the quest is surprised I managed to survive and thus had to come up with another way to say 'screw you' on the spot.

I've tried relogging, fully exiting and going back, leaving the room and reentering, leaving the whole AREA and reentering, and even abandoning the quest and starting over. Same crap every. Single. Time.

FIX, please?

Did you send a /bug report in game?

I share your sentiments. It is a difficult quest ... I had to level up a little bit before coming back. Eventually, though, I was able to get through it. Didn't experience the quest not advancing after defeating the horde, though.

    Good Luck!

Welp, third time's the charm; after resetting (abandoning and reaccepting) for the THIRD time, it worked.

I just got stuck here too, I died the first attempt, revived in the room, pulled and killed them all with my ultimate aoe, everyone is now sitting there doing nothing.
Ran out, did it again, still broken.

Tried logging out and nothing worked till I ported out to another zone and came back.

You have to let them come to you or you will aggro them all at the same time. Stay back and they will come a few at a time.

    Bugged for me as well

This quest is really bugged. It works the first time - 3 monsters pull at the beginning and keep coming slowly.

If you die, then next time you will get zerged by 6 or 7 enemies at once. This happens every retry. It makes it impossible.

I tried sneaking, the enemies reset back to the line and I can pull smaller groups. However, if you kill them this way, the NPCs never advance and you don't get the credit for killing all the ancients. I tried waiting for 10 minutes and never got the quest objective completion even though nothing else spawned and everything was dead.

I abandoned the quest and had to listen to ~5 minutes of dialogue again to get to the same point. I was able to get three to pull the first time again but I died again...

In total, this quest has taken me ~2 hours of keyboard smashing and I have yet to complete it. I know the quest is intended to be difficult but if you fail on the first try then you have to abandon to try it again properly. 7 enemies coming at you, even with super helpful NPCs, is not possible.

Doing this at Vet Rank 3 (EP)

For me, many more than a few come at first. Even when the friendlies tag some, I still get 5 on me. I personally cannot handle that many at once.

If you stealth when they first rise up from the ground, they will charge your group and reset, just standing where they spawned from. You can then pull them in smaller groups. Getting through it that way, I killed them all but ran into this bug. Nothing progressed. I figured I have to kill them all in a big group for it to work but it sounds like a real glitch.

The big problem is half of the friendlies just stand there doing nothing.

This needs to be tuned down or the friendlies need to actually help, and the glitch needs fixing. We can expect a support response, I assume...

V2 Nightblade here, same problem - extremely difficult when the whole pack jumps on you. Gave up after realizing I need to sit through all of Verandis' lore again just to reset the quest after abandoning it.

HELLOOOOO ZENIMAX? OP was 2 weeks ago. Are enough of us stuck to warrant your attention yet? The longer you wait the more of us there will be with this problem, or perhaps the fewer subscribers there will be overall. Your fate is kind of in your own hands here...

No way I'm doing that entire quest just for a one-off chance to pass/fail. They need to fix this. Should have been done already.

I have just abandoned this quest. Wish I'd known it was bugged before I had to spend several hundred gold on repairs.

FYI : as someone else stated here, I abandoned that quest and I was able to "quickly" restart the quest in Verandis' mansion. I succeeded to defeat the undead that time, and it worked.

Yeah, i spent hours on this one last night in veteran. (v7 nightblade)

    Jist is: DO NOT DIE.

If you die, restart the quest and rush through the dream convos.

Even though you can kill them after a reset with careful pulls (3 lots of 4 adds by targeting the skeles at either end of the line with ranged attacks) if you reset them through death? The bug will set in.

Do not stealth when you pull, it'll reset them.

Do not step beyond the friendly NPC's, you'll aggro more of them, even if you don't use any AOE abilities.

On a fresh run, step far enough into the room to spawn them (next to leila), and then hug back at the door you came through.

Wait for the first three to come to you and kill them back near the door.

For the casters, used ranged attacks (the healer lady should keep you up if your range dps isn't great). If you go melee them you risk setting off the others.

Used ranged attacks to set off the next 3, rinse and repeat.

Don't advance beyond your friendly NPCs until the final 3 mobs are left.

Rest of the quest is easy by comparison.

Thanks. I tried it but I still get 4 mobs all attacking me and no npc was helping including the healer. Tried 3 times with same frustrating results.

We should all get refunded gold for all the glitchy deaths and subsequent repairs we've had to deal with. Then there's the added risk of heart disease from all the stress and frustration. Don't be surprised if people sue over it someday - and win.

I'm past angry now. It's more like dejection. I honestly don't know if I'll be playing come next billing cycle. After all the nonsense of this release, I'm not sure I'll be playing video games at all. Paying for frustration seems to be the rule nowadays. I don't want to be a masochist anymore.

I've actually managed to kill them all twice and it doesn't advance past that step. It still says to defeat the ancient warriors even though there aren't any left.

edit: I just abandoned the quest and went through all the dialogue again and the mobs all aggro'd again anyway. I killed them and quest didn't advance again...

edit2: Nothing I do fixes this. I've abandoned twice now. I tried going to Daggerfall and relogging and coming back. Every time they all spawn and I immediately move back to the door and they all aggro at once again. WilliamTee's steps do not work.

edit3: Wow, I just found this patch note in 1.0.5:
    Rivenspire

Dream-Walk Into Darkness: You will now always get credit for clearing the skeletons.

This company is completely freaking inept...

So I spent Monday and Tuesday waiting for the game to come up so they could put patches in that didn't even fix what they were supposed to fix...

Getting sincerely @#&!ed off with this myself.

Edit : Completely reset it, don't die and stay in there trying to beat it because even if you do it'll not progress. Pulling it off without getting downed seems to have done the trick.

Going in a group of 3 I got past the glitch first try.

It's working around the aforementioned ineptitude of the developers but at least it means progressing.

Bethesda should be embarrassed by ZMO and the lack of competence and lack of supoort to so many players who are stuck on this ridiculous and long-existing bug.
  • mattbabb97ub17_ESO
Exact Same the happened to me and cost me a total of 1000g in repairs because of how many times I died. When I finally managed to kill the 14 skeletons the Montclairs stood there. Ruined my questing through this part of the zone and wasted a ton of my time. Please fix this.

  • t.daplynb16_ESO
Still bugged, I get four melee and four casters in the first pull even when hanging back as advised above, managed to clear the room once through kiting and swearing a lot (wife thrilled!) but, as others have found, the quest does not advance past this point. Abandoned this q and tried the L25 fighters guild q only to find that bugged too! Joy.

Come on seriously, this is just stupid. It's still bugged and almost impossible at VR2. I guess the play as you want only applies if you like playing a DK or Sorc AoE master. I've tried the reset thing and still get smacked even when using range attacks. NPCs don't heal or help. How long are you going to let this bug go on? I guess if I keep trying and resetting I'll eventually get it, and keep on repairing with that gold. How about at least give me back my 1000+ gold for repairs.........ya right.

Just tried this and getting the same issue. There are 12 mobs..half are casters and they all rush you at once. After dying half a dozen times they magically came in waves once and I killed them but the quest wouldn't advance. Tried exiting zone and coming back to see if I would get credit but they just all re-spawned and rushed me again. Completely broken.

edit: Wanted to edit that I was able to finally get this complete. I left the dream area. Invited someone else from the zone who was also stuck and entered that dream area again (we didn't abandon the quest btw). We had to sit through a bit of dialog again outside the skeleton area but it wasn't much. Entered the skeleton area and stayed near door..inched forward just enough to spawn skeletons and they came in waves. We fought them next to the door to not aggro others. Quest updated after last wave.

Like the poster above stated, I also got this to work. Had to start fresh, found a guy doing the same thing, invited him, and we breezed through it. Both of us were VR3 NBs with Bow equipped. It went pretty smooth and no glitch at the end after all the skeletons were down. Still though, they need to tone these mobs down a bit I would think. For a NB who relies on surprise and stealth to open up on mobs, this fight proves very difficult solo. I'm sure if I sat in there and practiced I would get it, but who wants to do that.........

I'm having a slightly different bug with this quest been trying for days and the skele's wont even load for me I enter the area and theres nothing there I've tried reclogging, restarting, abandoning the quest and moving on unfortunately the quest ties in a few others in the area and I cant complete them until this one is finished

I'm done with this game I realize there is always bugs on release but waiting a month for storyline quest patch is ridiculous not worth $15 a month to me to play bugged quests

I too was frustrated at the un-solo-able nature of this but the simple fact is you need at least 1 other person preferably a healing DK or Templar. You can do it without but its hit or miss and not worth the gamble. Just stay by the door and pick them off at range!
