Tomato & Difficult to find Provisioning

I once found a tomato in Cyrodiil some time ago. Didn't realize how rare they were and left it there. Now I can't find them anymore.
Exactly the same here, only it wasn't in Cyrodiil; somewhere within AD or maybe Coldharbour, as I haven't really set foot anywhere else (save for starting areas).

Tomato and oats dont exist. Question, are they maybe sold from one of these
"grociers" ive heard about in VR zones?

Confirm both oats and tomatoes from the hireling. Believe ZOS has confirmed it's the only way to get them. Saw the post in another thread somewhere.

That is correct. Zenimax has recently confirmed that they are intentionally only available from Provisioner hireling 2 & 3. Since I upgraded to hireling 3/3 4 days ago, I have received both tomatoes & oats.

Assuming purples recipes all do +mag,+stam & +hp then it's kind of a weird situation imo by making tomato and oats from the hireling exclusively. It means that if the below make ups are in fact true then the Consummate Honey Brittle is much better than the other 2 as while pepper is rare it's available from the world rather than just from the hirelings:

    http://esohead.com/recipes/332-consummate-sweetroll
    http://esohead.com/recipes/328-consummate-honey-brittle
    http://esohead.com/recipes/338-consummate-honey-pudding

Potato and Onion also seem to be available in much greater numbers than they will ever be useable in due to the tomato ingredient requirement.

Question, when you take 3/3 hireling, but only 1/6 improvement, will you still get tomato's? I wasnt going to do provisioning, and instead pay someone else to make my food for me until I have an abundance of points at VR10.

Uh that confirmation from Zenimax is quite surprising... as i found a tomato just yesterday :) was running around VR zones to gather Honey! :)

So 86 Honey and 1 Tomato :) ... it seems just a bit more rare than the rest.

well, its nice to know that provisioning hireling isnt as useless as once thought. but is it still worth the points for a handful of maters ?

I don't have the link, but here was the quote.

    Hi all,

We can confirm that oats and tomatoes are indeed in the game and working as intended. We double checked when we started seeing threads like this, just to be sure.

Here's a little info, to help you:
Currently, you will never find oats or tomatoes out in the world. This is working as intended.
Both oats and tomatoes are only available from Provisioner Hireling boxes. They are rare by design.
They're only available if you have the Provisioner Hireling passive skill to Rank 2 or greater."

some items aint world drops, but have to be brought at a vendor, like imperial flour I think its called

Onions, salt, pepper, potato, while I have been levelling up, I notice these were not so common in drops, so I kept them, not I have between 50-100 of them that means if Im using them thats between 150-300 potions, or 150-300 hours of buff, plenty of time for me to find them again.

There are four tiers of food parts
T0 Chef NPC brought only items (never drop, like Imperial Stock)
T1 Common but found in set zone by level
T2 Uncommon found in all zones, required for blue recipes
T3 Rare, designed to be 'hireling only' (but they are not) and required for purple recipes

Tomatos and Oats 'appear' to be the only food parts that are 'hireling only'. I have been told of people looting tomatos, I still will not believe it until I get one myself.

V5 Consumated Honey Brittle uses the T3 rares Garlic and Pepper and I have alot of theses. They need to either make all T3 Rare drops, or make them all only from hireling.

Natjur, do you have a link for your source? It would be good to read what else it has to say. And thanks, it's really useful to know about the rankings of ingredients.

Are the vendors that sell imperial broth and the such only in the VR 6-10 zone? Im VR4 and have never seen them. I assume im too low level as they are for recipes requiring VR5.
  • mark.markandb16_ESO

I put 3 points into hireling last night, got 5 oats and 3 red wheats on the first delivery. I've had a lvl 25 purple recipe for a week. I didnt use it yet since i was still missing the oats. Not sure if i will now though since im almost lvl 40.

The Emporium in Windhelm has a grocer on the top level ("Soup is for dryskins!" - you will learn to hate this phase). For Daggerfall they are typically located somewhere in an inn or if you need one in the Domion zones there is one located just by the docks along the route to the Harborage in Vulkhel Guard in Auridon. There are probably others around but I never looked after I finally found one.

Thanks for the feedback. I had someone in my guild earlier tell me that veteran level materials can be bought at the mage town (dont remember what its called) that you get access to after the mages guild quest line. Havent confirmed, but ill check it out.

T0 are from Grocer NPC Locations: (Vet only zones)

Ebonheart Pact: Black-Silk-Earth in Davon’s Watch, Stonefalls.
Northern part of the Market District.

Aldmeri Dominion: Samardan in Vulkhel Guard, Auridon.
Near the docks by the merchant stall

Daggerfall Covenant: Jafrost Cold-Eye in Betnikh.
    Dockside Trading Stalls

    (ColdHarbour)
Hollow city at the food place across from the bank

The list of T1-T3 can be found Here

    So save your T2
Salt, Red Wheat, Onion, Hallertau Hops, Snowberry and Concord Grapes

    And the very rare T3
Garlic & Pepper, Barley & Oats, Potato & Tomato, Hops & Saaz Hops, Juniper Berry & Canis Root and White Grapes & Jazbay Grapes

Strange that Tomato and Oats are the only ones that appear to be hireling only but the other rare T3 can be found (just rare).

Tomatoes don't grow on trees... kids these days.

Farming as a craft would be so neat! Perhaps paired with housing, if ZOS is ever able to implement.

Totally agree. Mining should be its own profession, so could hunting for food and skinning having just anyone be a professional Skinner and Miner is kinda lame.
