Tomato & Difficult to find Provisioning

I have a few very blue and purple provisioning recipes. The one i have requires Onion and Tomato in addition to three easily attainable items. The onions are rare, but you can find them. It's easy to bug a few people to have them give you all of their onions... especially if you give them the cooked item back in return. However, tomato is one thing i have yet to stumble upon in the game... not even once (i am currently level 29).

Does anyone know where to find tomato at? I have a few guesses where it may be, but none have been fruitful yet.
- Growing on trees on farms somewhere
- Located on food tables in high level inns
- Found in high level dungeons only
- Found in other faction areas (ex, i'm in AD, perhaps it's in Daggerfall?)
- Purchasable from certain merchants

I would really like to know if people have seen it, and where i can farm it at. It must be attainable at my level since i received the purple recipe requiring it when i was 25.

Also, anyone find any good locations that drop onion often? This item seems rare, but common enough to find once in awhile.

Onions are fairly common, looks like they even feed the horses onions.

    Yep.

This is likely going to be a continual issue, because if you get unlucky and don't find the materials you need you are pretty much out of luck.

Makes it difficult to depend on your crafts.

onions seem to drop from in all levels in all zones, i had some at level 10 and i still get some at vr4, tomato though i have never looted one through all of AD and EP, and people in zone are always trying to buy them and say the same they have never seen one, it must be a faction based ingredient that comes from DC content like ripe apple which i have never looted either but our cross faction guild bank has over 50 in it.

I have found ripe apples in AD. They're not faction exclusive.

I also have a small stack of onions, but I haven't seen any tomatoes. I remember someone asked about them in guild chat and there was no answer - most of my guild is DC. This might be a real problem.

I got a few tomatoes from my hireling but I think I never found them anywhere else.

I am currently level 34 & am a 50 Provisioner. I spend a considerable amount of time gathering ingredients. I also am the only provisioner in a 49-member Guild, and everybody drops their ingredients in the GB for me to grab & cook up. I have yet to see a single tomato.

Rough. I have a small stack of onions as well. I think I have one ripe apple. carrots are also rare. most carrots you find are just low lvl junk food. but the crafting ingredient carrot I think I have 3 of.

maybe tomato only comes from grocery merchants then, with hireling having a chance to send them to you,

I heard you can get them from veteran zones only. But I have not confirmed this, myself.

But the purple recipes are only level 36 at most, right?
  • carazvaneb17_ESO
Purp recipes go all the way it seems. I also use to think they were lvl 35 only but bought a VR5 purp recipe the other day.

Interesting. I have farmed for recipes like a mofo and not found one. I don't think anyone in my guild has, either.

    I am level 50 Cook.
I have two purple recipes, one requires a Tomato the other Oats.
I have never looted either and I loot EVERYTHING.
Auto loot is turned on and I have 102 slots.

There's 3 varieties of the level 35 +180hp/stamina/magicka saltrice recipe.
Their "last" ingredient varies, one has pepper, one tomato, one oats.
Pepper is uncommon, but not rare (in AD). Tomato and oats, I haven't seen any yet (level 30, up to greenshade [level 25-30], in AD).

I have 4 different purple recipes for level 35. I have one "Consummate" drink for each of the 3 stat categories, although since purple affects all 3 stats, they essentially are identical, just requires different ingredients. The other one is Consummate grilled frog legs , or something like that. I have actually found blue recipes to be much harder to get than purple for level 30 & 35. I have even offered to trade my extra purples for blues and found no takers.

As for the ingredients, like the rest of you, I am finding no oats or tomatoes. I do have some carrots though, but no sign of a recipe that uses them.

I see what you did there. ;)

I can at least confirm for you that it isn't any more in the DC faction area. My main is 38, and I have several alts at 7-10. I've cooked or stored everything they've found on the provisioning alt, which amounts to thousands. I have about 10-15 of all the other ingredients that make purple recipes (barley, white grapes, pepper, etc.) but absolutely no tomatoes or oats.

I see people asking in zone chat for those ingredients all the time. Furthermore, I don't believe I have ever seen anyone trying to sell purple food from the Soup or Bread categories.

Is it possible that these just aren't in the containers' loot tables? Nobody else in this thread appears to have found any either, except from a hireling.

I don't think I've ever found a tomato from looting something, but I do think I've had 1 tomato in my inv from something or somewhere but I ended up selling it. Not proud of that after just learning how rare they seem to be.

I am only a level 14 character in AD but my provisioning is in the low 40s. I started getting things like salt, pepper, onions, ripe apples, etc ... by the time my character hit level 10 but provisioning was around level 30 or so.

As for tomatoes ... never even seen one.
As for carrots ... I have two I think that I looted before I was still in my pre-teens. All the carrots I come across now are food items and not crafting resources just like radishes. The carrots I probably looted at Khan's Roost.

The sad thing is, I have such a variety of provisioning items I can loot now that I can hardly even level it. When I do a gathering run in towns I end up with a full variety of crafting resources but hardly anything that matches my provisioning recipes.

The highest level recipe I even have is a couple of level 15s.

you might think tomatoes are a VR zone thing, but its not. iv only received them once in hireling bags. and this is once in like what, i dont know how many bags, but alot.

either we hade missed something or its supose to be this rare, which is awful. stuff being rare is fine, but this rare? its easier making legendary gear in the game...

speaking of the provisioning hireling, it needs work. at the moment its very lackuster. only getting somewhat lowlvl mats over and over doesnt really seem worth the 3 points invested in it.

I'm sure I found a tomato once, but it was earlier on and I didn't realise it was rare, (and my memory is hazy, so it may have even been in the beta) but I think I may have found it in Cyrodiil (and I don't have the hireling, so it wasn't from that).

Has anyone been looking there? I've noticed a number of unique ingredients (and higher level ones) from there.

And the same. Our guild has a little stack of carrots, a little stack of pepper, quite a few onions, but no tomatoes or oats.

They need to either provide a reliable way to buy provisioning items or add farming as a craft so we can grow our own.
  • N_Hearthcroft
Farming as a craft would be so neat! Perhaps paired with housing, if ZOS is ever able to implement.

Anyone got a site or list of what the different purple V5 recipes need?
Since every V5 purple food gives the same stats (+ max health, mana & stamina)
and every V5 purple drinks is the same (+ regen rate health, mana & stamina)

The only different is the parts required to make the food/drink. So the ones that need tomato's will suck, and those that use more common food will sell well.
