Motif Farming - Logging In/Out to reset containers; exploit?

Hello, I'm going to keep this brief. There's a technique people are using to farm motifs in certain areas; they're logging in, looting all the containers there, then relogging to reset the containers, rinse and repeat.

The question here is, is this an exploit? An official response would be nice, I searched the forums and couldn't find anything on this topic specifically. Thanks.

No offense.. but you just made a braindead post. You just told it to everyone.. It's like a kid in class telling a teacher "Didn't we have a test today?" Which would make all his classmates feel like beating him up. Good job :)

Because of the bank bug, players have to log in and out between their alts heavily, as many now have to be their shared vault now. I have to do so much of it, endlessly logging characters out and in to put in and take out resources. How is the game going to tell what is that and what is constant relog to refresh containers?

Honestly, do you want them to start banning players left and right for logging frequently between alts? That is the solution they will do.

Normally the best way to report and stamp out an exploit is to not go telling everyone and to instead send a report about it or contact the forum admins via their name.

Now until its fixed this is gonna have the crap exploited out of it since they sell for so much.

Nah, they'd probably add a better timer to the containers to remember what character looted the containers and when. There's no actual way to know who is doing this and who isn't, as you said, so banning people left and right as you put wouldn't solve the problem.

As for the rest of you... shame on you.

I really dont think they would ban anyone just because they are faming motifs , probably they will just make the containers not refresh , and that is it.

Many are getting short term bans for supposed spamming in the game. I got a warning and boot to character screen when the game had hurled my character to the edge of the world. I guess the program they were using to detect spam decided that the rapid messages send by the game to the server was me spamming.

Also, guild leaders are getting bans from sending out guild mails to 14-15 members. The game cannot tell the difference between gold spammers and legitimate guild mailings.

People are getting autobans from giving a wife or girlfriend gold so she can buy a mount. Possible same thing can happen if players are doing a trade transaction for expensive goods.

Thing is, this company uses sledge hammers when trying to stop exploiters and gold spammers. And it often squashes many innocents caught in the path of those sledge hammers.

Could some 1 please give this gentleman a link to the T&C of exploiting known exploits with in the game.

I personally hope every 1 that has been doing this gets a 10 day ban right off the bat.

As some 1 who uses a bank alt my alt is in the bank it DOSN'T move when my main needs something from him i have to be in the bank NOT OPENING ANYTHING ON THE WAY just to see the banker.

Well , then we better enjoy this game for the short time it will take for it to become F2P.

because honestly , if they banned me for any crap i did not do , i would cancel my sub on the spot.

I would even ask for a refund ... but i dont think i still can get one of those.

If you want to spend your time logging in and out constantly, instead of playing the game, knock yourself out!

They can always make it so that motifs only drop in dungeons where you have to work for them, would still be able to reset the dungeon but atleast they all wont be free to open them?

Im a pack-rat, with my bank reset and me not trusting it, i relog 10+ times an hour to shuffle stuff around my now neccesary mules.

Patcher/Launcher is buggy, people losing progression via erased banks and skillpoints, quests stopping people from advancing the primary story line, or into veteran ranks.....These are issues. Relogging to farm motifs which impact NOTHING on the game other than appearances should not even be on the plate for them.

If this were an issue they did not intend, they will alter how these things drop. They would be shooting themselves in the foot for banning people for relog-camping for motifs.

The argument of "it alters the market" is false, as there are now MORE of them because of farming and their price goes down, as well as anyone can now farm it themselves and get one. It doesn't impact stats or leveling in any way. It impacts your gold supply, only issue involved.

If something as easy as relogging to take advantage of reset containers was bannable, it should be CLEARLY stated to the playerbase. Crystal Clear.

So anyone form Zeni out there want to comment on this? Is this an intended feature to keep us looking into bookshelves and chests for lore and furthering the game's economy? Was it not intended at all to be this way and is bannable? Or just something that will change in a later patch to bring it more into line with what you all had in mind with this syste?

In short, no this isn't an exploit!

Keep in mind, there are a great deal of bugs in this game, that do require logging. As aforementioned, one such bug is with the banks. Others include quests. In the latter case, "triggers" (e.g. to provoke an event) and NPC's the player may be required to follow, fail to respond. An example of this was a quest I had in Bal Foyen docks; Players are to follow an NPC into the hold of a Covenant ship, and confront their commander. She lead me and a partner into the hold, but would get stuck, failing to walk up to a door that would trigger this confrontation. We tried all sorts of things, including leaving the cell (room) and coming back. The only thing we had left to try, and what worked, was logging from the game and coming back.

Also keep in mind that, as an MMO, the game and all its containers, doesn't revolve around you or any individual player. It works with or around the whole. As such, one player logging from a game, won't reset the timer on any given public container.

To be certain, I've tried this so called "exploit" of yours, and based on what I'm seeing, it's the exact same issue everyone is having with virtually everything else. For some reason, containers aren't resetting. There is a timer for when it should reset, but it doesn't. This could be an animation issue, as when you loot a container, you see it open and it stays open. Personally, I've never seen a container close. If I were to log from the game and re-enter, the container might reset. That's the key word. I've tried logging, immediately after looting, and it doesn't work. If I wait a while, and then do it, the container is reset. Hence, I believe this to be an animation issue. The container has reset, but we're not seeing it.

As for the timer, it looks like it's about the same as for resources (iron, maple, etc.) respawning, if not faster.

I hope this makes sense. If not, just keep in mind the short version; bug, not exploit.

In all fairness relog to reloot is a game mechanic they've allowed all along and I've played since beta. If they want to ban over it that's fine - I'll go play something else. I'd prefer to play an MMO that's more fixated on keeping their player base and fixing any possible exploits. As it stands i view this as a known bug from beta if not an intended game mechanic, after all the games been out over 2 years. Botting is however something i have never done and will never do. I believe as an individual if i wanted to assert myself and my investment in the game I'd hire a lawyer to thoroughly make my point.
