4/5 Lights of Meridia

It's not a wrong choice to choose the Argonian Warrior instead of the mage. Both propose their help in the final assault against Molag Bal. Unfortunately, only the mage will help you, provided that you have chosen the mage at the end of the quest. And only the mage will give you the 5th light of Meridia.

I chose the warrior: the Hist tree will survive if I defeat Molag Bal. This choice makes sense. But I was not rewarded the light of Meridia, and the Argonians were not present during the last assault against Molag Bal. And in my opinion, this is a bug, and because of this bug I cannot have the achievement.

Whats that last fight you are talking about ? I dont clearly understand.
In very last fight you fight SOLO no matter what.
In pre-last fight you only recieve help of main characters of your Dominions main story line no matter what.

Usualy, when some1 say they will help you in some way that means they simply give you some powerfull weapon. And i believe that when you talk about argonians, the result is simply getting Staff from mages or 2H weapon from warriors, thats it.

Well, arent achivements is something meant to be a knowledge based things ?
I mean, if you really want to get an achivement, you have to first learn how to to get it and then dont forget to make a correct choise.
If you happen to miss or make a wrong choise you will have to comeback and do it again.
This is totaly normal and this is how the things work in every game with achivements.
And having missing achivements is not an issue in any way.
However, there is only 1 way of doing it again in ESO- create new character.
    - Achivements are account wide, so they would count for your main.

Achievements are not account wide. Hard to say more without spoilers. Make a second character and look at your achievements on it right at the start and you will see them empty.

It appears that you do get a Light of Meridia from the Hist quest as the only difference between my two characters is there choice in this quest i.e. one chose warriors (4/5 Lights) the other Scholars (5/5 Lights).

To anyone saying achievements are about choice and choosing the warrior over mage was/is a bad choice please diaf. If everything hinged one a singular choice its very poor design and i pray to shendarr zos isnt that stupid but then again we are talking matt firor.

While doing sub-quests during "The Army of Meridia", you want to rescue as many people as possible to aid in the oncoming battle, and also try to retrieve the 5 Lights of Meridia. The heart of the quest has you rescuing the NPCs that will be heading up the Fighters Guild and Mages Guild: King Laloriaran Dynar and Vanus Galerion.

However, once these two NPCs are rescued, it is possible to move forward without having rescued everybody or getting all the Lights. The Groundskeeper gives the choice, and even warns you if you haven't rescued everybody. She says that if you want to move forward anyway, then enter the cathedral and the preparations for the final assault will begin.

I think once you pass this point, it's too late to go back and finish this if you hadn't finished it already. At this point, I hadn't yet rescued everyone, and I hadn't yet got the last Light of Meridia in the Tower of Lies for the quest "Truth, Lies, and Prisoners". I did however go complete everything BEFORE I entered the cathedral and get my achievement for "The Lights of Meridia".

Here is a sequence of screenshots for me at this stage. I had just finished rescuing Vanus Gelerion and introduced him to the mages guild, and then had to talk to the Groundskeeper.

I submitted a question and they told me that I've done all the quests, but I have to run back and run around blindly to try to find the one I missed. Is there anything out there with pictures of where the lights are? I don't even know how to get back into some of the areas.

I posted screenshots for 4 of the Lights earlier in this thread here. (See the next few posts after that one too.) But I still have no idea where the 5th one came from, even though I got the achievement for getting all 5. As you can tell, I took a LOT of screenshots, so somewhere there was an indirect credit for another Light. My only guesses is either from the two times you pick up the same Light inside The Vile Laboratory, or else after you get the one under the tree in The Lightless Oubliette, you go into a new quest involving King Laloriaran Dynar called "Light From the Darkness" which has you using that Light, and perhaps it gave a second count.

I asked one of my guildmates to choose the Argonian mage at the end of the Hist quest. Another of my guildmates chose the Argonian warrior. The first one got the light of Meridia; the second one did not.

    That's as simple as that.

People in my opinion are typically fine with achievements which are available for a limited time. However, having one chance at a regular achievement is pushing it to begin with. Combine that with having no warning that you're even on a one chance achievement is quite frankly absurd.

The Bleakrock achievement has been cited but I suppose that gives the player a fair warning of sorts. I wouldn't allow players to not save everyone but I suppose it isn't totally unreasonable to expect that a player will take twenty seconds to press J and see what their zone objectives are when they start a new zone. It's kind of a spoiler but most of us probably do it.

Requiring players to research achievements just to see how much damage their choices will cause isn't reasonable. I don't believe that anyone in the choices have consequences camp has either done this quest or if they have then they just happened to side with mages.

This achievement should be changed to four lights.

I'm not sure that I'll believe this without screenshots showing the number of Lights of Meridia in the achievements window for before and after. I was already aware of the debate of whether this choice mattered or not so paid special attention to it when I did it. I chose the mages as well, but saw no evidence whatsoever that there was any Light of Meridia involved in this quest at all. I posted my findings on this some time ago in this thread.

Unless.... when siding with the mages, they have you destroy the "Vampiric Shard" infecting the Hist tree, allowing it to die. If this "Vampiric Shard" is counted as a Light of Meridia then that would explains things.

After I chose the Argonian warrior, I was not asked to destroy the vampiric shard. Actually, nothing special happened after this choice.

This being said, I made a poll in my guild: those who chose the mage have 5/5 lights of Meridia; those who chose the warrior have 4/5 lights of Meridia.

I'm part of an alliance of about 350 people, sharing the same alliance guild so we can have a discussion channel to help each other. Each time someone asked for some help about the lights of Meridia, we asked this person: "hey, did you choose the Argonian warrior or the Argonian mage?" Guess what was the answer.

Question: is there any body here who chose the warrior and has 5/5 lights of Meridia?

Not I Trinnsic. This is what I was told by CS:

"We understand that some players have been unable to find all five of the lights necessary to receive the "Lights of Meridia" achievement. We suggest that return to places you visited as part of the main quests and explore these areas more carefully."

Pretty much the standard brushoff response.

Based on informations gathered in this thread... no, it's not possible to find 5th light when you chosed wrong path. So this copy-paste text is useless and we should keep mailing them this issue.

Had the same issue, on my map it shows 2 areas of "discovered light of Meridia" but my achievement shows 4/5.
I noted to ESO that some areas have become inaccessible post completion of the quest. (Vile Laboratory) although I suspect upon completion you would have uncovered both lights in there, but that's just my speculation.

    Their Response/recommendation.

"Thank you for contacting The Elder Scrolls Online Team.

You have indeed completed all five of the quests in which a Light of Meridia can be found. In my experience the one most people (including myself) overlook is in Hay Uxith.

I found this particular thread on our forums invaluable:
    http://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/discussion/76444/4-5-lights-of-meridia

Despite having experienced the entirety of Coldharbour with two characters now, it still seems such a confusing place to navigate - the first time through, for instance, I completely unknowingly navigated the entire labyrinthine paths the exact right route, then got so lost the second time through I eventually asked a passer-by to allow me to follow them!"

Have anyone tried this approach? I cant make my way back in to the Vile Laboratory and have been broadcasting in zone for a couple of days with no luck.

I'm finding it to be a huge waste of time hanging out in an area which i have already completed/surpassed in both quest/crafting/level.

I have just completed Haj Uxith by siding with the Mages (scholars) and before I started the area I was at 1/5 Lights of Meridia on my achievements. I'm not sure where during the quest I picked it up, but after defeating the champion and destroying the vamp crystal, my achievements show 2/5. I'm guessing that destroying the crystal gives you a Light... somehow, although the when asking WHY I should choose the Scholars, the Treeminder said she will grant me a boon, whereas the warriors said they would fight at my side. Maybe the Light of Meridia is the boon?

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom, @ZOS_GinaBruno, can you confirm few things?

Completing Haj Uxith by siding with the Mages grants Light of Meridia?

Is it possible to get last (5th) Light of Meridia if we don't chose Mages?

Are you aware of this situation and plan to add one quest where you can obtain Light of Meridia or rework few things in quests?
  • abrizsb14_ESO1
I have done every single quest in this place, and I am 4/5. Seriously Zenimax, you guys are horrible at coding. I have never seen a game with this many quests broken. I have literally had to fix many quest, and tons more unable to complete because of various reasons... If I had to guess the % of broken quests.. that % would be at least 30% are broken!

Well, if I hadn't seen this thread I wouldn't have taken note of it. I had 4/5 lights before I made the decision to side with the mages in Haj Uxith. I then spoke to the warrior and decided to fight his champion. I defeated him and went to the hist tree. I checked how many lights I had - still 4/5. I then spoke to the mage and then destroyed the dark crystal. I spoke to the mage again and got some armour and quest completed. With that I got the achievement for all light - on screen. Checked achievements (pressing J) and sure enough 5/5 - all lights found.

So It looks like you do get the 5th light with this quest after all, though it's not immediately obvious. You don't get a quest to pick it up and you don't actually pick it up. This one is done indirectly. So glad I read this thread before doing this.

I was actually trying to figure out who to side with. The warriors said they will fight alongside. What do I get with the mages? I had no idea about the lights then.

    Well that's that.

I wish I had done my research before finishing the quest. I can confirm that if you pick warrior's side you will not receive Meridia's 5th light. I don't think that the quest presented enough hints to the fact that you are making the "wrong" choice by picking warriors as supposed to scholars (for instance, in Sheogorath's quest you are told that by saving Valaste you are giving up on "half a dozen of skyshards"). The sad part is that I cannot go back and "fix" my "mistake". I obviously won't reroll my character at this point, but I do think that they should implement a retrospective achievement granting.
Player choice should not have THIS much impact on the game. I can live with that fact that the game didn't give me a certain weapon, a certain amount of gold and even some extra skill points, but I cannot be happy with the fact that I won't be able to achieve full completion.

Totally agree. I missed an achievement with giants near Windhelm a while ago. There was no indication and I didn't see that achievement until later. Wish there was a way to re-do quests.
