Can't play with daughter

Angerel

My daughter and I both rolled toons at the same time, came out of Coldharbour at the same time and were both dropped in the same starting city. We are the same level and still can't see each other. We game in the same room and can see each other's screens. We are standing at the same spot but still nothing. Yes, we are on the same megaserver.
We are both big Elder Scrolls fans and have been looking forward to being able to play together and this is very disappointing. This is suppose to be an MMO but what good is it when you can't play with friends and family.
Any ideas on why this is happening? We are looking to other players for an answer because I have been on these forums for awhile and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of responses from ZOS on problems.

Group with the person, and "travel to player".

If you both are standing in the same area, can you see her mark "^"? And yes are you both grouped?

Definitely try grouping, and then 'travel to player' under the group menu. Also, my son and I noticed that we sometimes had to leave an area before we saw anything but each other's arrows. That appeared to be kind of random, as we could see each other, then not, as we rode across the landscape on horses. Can also try relogging.
This is all part of the game.

I have been playing in both beta and launch with my wife the whole time and the ONLY time I have this problem is when one of us advance one of the quest where us the other did not. So both of you have the same quest advancement?

There are different instances of the game, as everyone said above you need select "Travel to Player" after you group. You can not group in Coldharbour, but this is how it works once you get to the starting city. I have had only one play session with my wife, where we actually booted into the same instance.

Why is everybody calling their characters toons?

An older MMO slang referring to a animated character like a cartoon. Hence a shorten form "Toon"

An even 'older' term was char (short for character)...which is more dignified, I think.
This is all part of the game.

Want to thank everyone for the suggestions - we will try that. Maestro - the term 'toon' comes from the original D&D type paper games as does the term 'reroll'. In the older paper games when you create a new character or toon you would roll dice for the stats. Just an FYI.

@Angerel Just checking if these guys helped or answered your question? Like they said, press O for social add them to friend list then right click and invite to group. Then press P for party and right click her name and select travel to player. It will put you in same instance.

However just note, some quests, mainly fighter and mage guild, also harborage quests are all solo, so you won't be in those together. Also, in normal quests, if either of you go ahead of the other and try to go back to help, you might not see each other too, because the area you saved will look different than the one she sees as a disaster about to save. So don't confuse them as bugs b

    Hope this helps.

I just refer to my characters in ESO as "vestiges"

I am a believer that there is really only one allowed character in ESO, that being "@username, and that the 8 characters you can create are vestiges" in more than once sense of the word.

Press O and select your daughter's name, right click & select "Travel To Player." It will put you in the same instance & take you to the closest wayshrine. You will then need to run to her.

If you and her are in a quest, it is possible she has chosen a different quest path than you. For example, you have the option to kill a quest turn in reward giver. You choose to kill the NPC, your daughter does not. It will put you in separate shards until the NPC is dead and/or you reach the next phase of the quest.

I think this is a simple phasing issue, though. "Travel To Player" should fix it right up.
