Not much chatting going on in game. I miss that. The only thing i see in game is spamming. Is there a reason for this. I like people saying hello etc. B)

Most people chat within their guilds or on 3rd party programs, and yeah a lot of rmt spamming going on in chat, some people like myself just turn it off it gets that bad, find a good guild that should help you :)
Guild Master of Lost Prophecies, small group of friends playing in Ebonheart Pact, recruitment only accessible through playing with us and making a good impression.

What Tiyamel said. And it's a bit of a feedback loop, people turn off /zone chat because its spammy so you get even less normal chatting. That's the primary reason the auction houses were invented in other games but ZOE thought they would be clever about it.
As for /say and the lack of it, it happens when you don't have chat bubbles. That's the only thing conductive to local convos.

That, and nameplates... not being able to readily know who's nearby is detrimental to the community aspect as well.

I think its more of the lack of chat bubbles than name plates.
Someone speaks, no one knows until minutes later when they or whoever the person that spoke is long and gone.

Both chat bubbles and nameplates should be in the options for players to customize their play experience. Not having those is just lazy these days.

Sometimes I just can't understand what the developers were thinking when they omitted such essential options... it's like there is a retro design trend in the gaming industry...

Unfortunately I see a lot of "chat" going on, nothing better than coming out of a public dungeon and have your IQ ravaged by it.....

They didn't omit them, they thought they were very dumb ideas and ruined immersion. Welcome to TES, I hope your stay will be long and possibly quiet

I can understand the lack of nameplates ruining immersion. You can still target someone with the reticle and know who/what they are.

but there is no feedback for who, what and where someone said anything anywhere without chat bubbles. Making any sort of communication both RP and in general just way more of a hassle than it would be. Infact the lack of chat bubbles ruins immersion more than having them. having chat bubbles is akin to actually hearing someone, you know where, when and who said what, just like if someone was in a room with you.

Now if a bunch of people in one room got to talking all at once. Good luck keeping up with the conversation without being resorted to ignore everyone else besides the person you're talking to. And if you're talking to all of them. Ha! good luck with that.

I guess nobody explained to them the meaning of the word "optional". We may be dealing with the "Lucas" syndrome here. A big game designer celeb with a retro/minimalist fetish around whom nobody has the guts to say "man, that's a dumb idea".

I think part of it is that folks can be members or 5 guilds, I actually talk in Zone quite a bit, but it may be that folks are just in guild chat.
What is written above are my honest opinions. If you agree then; "Great!" If you disagree; "Great!" I really couldn't care less either way.

As people grow wary of repeating over and over the same things, I'll leave you to use the search functions. It's a character building experience

Ah, you were trying to be sarcastic? Can I then assume that you are one of those people who are allergic to the despicable idea of having options? Do incorrectly set checkboxes in my settings ruin your immersion perchance?

Absolutely! I can't sleep at night thinking of people having options. It...steals my breath...I feel....choking....

yes, I tend to turn off zone chat during prime hour, plenty of talking going on but more trading and LFG, turn it on in slow hours.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Did not know that. All other games that invented auction houses did it primarily to reduce chat clutter. Huh. Not for player's economy or a gold sink or even as a profit (D3 lol) but for chat. Makes sense.
    Do you even backstory, bro?

I use a mod called SimpleChatBubbles for /say and /tell messages although it can be set for other channels as well. It pops a bubble up in the main screen (up to 6) which at least lets you know when someone /says something or sends a /tell. I missed a lot of these prior to this because I was often not even glancing at the chat box.

The bubble doesn't appear next to the player who used /say (which must be impossible to do for an addon) but at least the pop-up bubble will let you know someone nearby said something. It's very useful indeed.
