What Tiyamel said. And it's a bit of a feedback loop, people turn off /zone chat because its spammy so you get even less normal chatting. That's the primary reason the auction houses were invented in other games but ZOE thought they would be clever about it.
As for /say and the lack of it, it happens when you don't have chat bubbles. That's the only thing conductive to local convos.
Both chat bubbles and nameplates should be in the options for players to customize their play experience. Not having those is just lazy these days.
Sometimes I just can't understand what the developers were thinking when they omitted such essential options... it's like there is a retro design trend in the gaming industry...

They didn't omit them, they thought they were very dumb ideas and ruined immersion. Welcome to TES, I hope your stay will be long and possibly quiet

I guess nobody explained to them the meaning of the word "optional". We may be dealing with the "Lucas" syndrome here. A big game designer celeb with a retro/minimalist fetish around whom nobody has the guts to say "man, that's a dumb idea".

As people grow wary of repeating over and over the same things, I'll leave you to use the search functions. It's a character building experience

Ah, you were trying to be sarcastic? Can I then assume that you are one of those people who are allergic to the despicable idea of having options? Do incorrectly set checkboxes in my settings ruin your immersion perchance?
yes, I tend to turn off zone chat during prime hour, plenty of talking going on but more trading and LFG, turn it on in slow hours.Jadeviper1974 wrote: »lycanslerwb17_ESO wrote: »Not much chatting going on in game. I think part of it is that folks can be members or 5 guilds, I actually talk in Zone quite a bit, but it may be that folks are just in guild chat.

I use a mod called SimpleChatBubbles for /say and /tell messages although it can be set for other channels as well. It pops a bubble up in the main screen (up to 6) which at least lets you know when someone /says something or sends a /tell. I missed a lot of these prior to this because I was often not even glancing at the chat box.As for /say and the lack of it, it happens when you don't have chat bubbles.
