All Desks/ Trunks/ Nightstands/ Barrels - Empty.

I'm not sure if this is a bug, but EVERYTHING is empty. Every town we go in there's nothing to loot and it's a little frustrating for players like me and my partner who gather everything they can, especially for crafting purposes.

Is anyone else getting this issue?

It's not a bug people are looting them, they have a timer, when the timer is up the items respawn

I've seen people running routes round town looting everything, and they just go round all day trying to get those montifs

And that's exactly what it is, motifs should be removed from cabinets etc.. and added as loot in 4 man instances.

People are looting the same things? I always thought the desks, barrels.. etc were phased to your client, so everyone hard their own things to loot.


I've been able to loot the same thing as someone before me plenty of times.

They're instanced to each player. Looting a container doesn't make it empty for others.

They are definitely instanced, as I've seen other players run to a chest and the animation trigger for opening it. Then I've got to the same chest and looted a racial motif. So unles the first person saw it and decided it just wasn't for them...

Having said that, I've had exactly the same issue as the OP. Every single chest, barrel, bag and crate being empty. Logging to character select and logging back on fixed it (ie changed instance)

I've encountered this problem as well, in two separate instances. The most recent happened this morning after a power outage disconnected me from the server. When I logged back in, every single container shows the empty message when moused-over. Relogging, switching characters, and creating a new character haven't worked. I'll see if waiting a length of time fixes it, but from past experience it didn't solve anything. A guildmate is also encountering this issue, and it's rather bothersome when trying to acquire motifs and provisioning materials.

I got the same problem on EU server today. I have done the whole starter island for Aldmeri Dominion and a bit questing in Vulkhel Guard and every container have been empty when I try to loot them. Not one single upgrade from a bookcase(that I noticed).

But in the intro on Coldharbour I looted plenty of stuff. But nothing since then.

I have tried to log out and in again but it doesn't help. My previous character I played the day before yesterday looted his bags full on the starter island. I deleted him today and started a new character, now I wish I hadn't.

I get no fish in the fish nodes either, but I have mined iron and picked some flowers. Knowing I got a ton of bookcase upgrades with my last toon this one I play now almost feels a little bit gimped for its level.

EDIT: Ok I just got a upgrade from a bookcase so I guess that is not a problem, but still no loot from containers. Nothing!

This "thing" sorted itself out eventually, a couple logins and repairs later the looting worked again.

more than one person can end up on the same looting instance there have been time where someone looted something and it made it empty before i could loot it and there are times when it doesnt, with the amount of people on the servers i think it's safe to say every single person doesn't have there own tailor made instance 24/7

This is one of my pet peeves. I'm level 16, I loot pretty much every container I find (except sacks and stuff since I don't do provisioning) and so far, I've NEVER even seen a motif book, or a chest in a house that wasn't already empty. It really annoys me that everything's already empty because of a few selfish farmers.

Alot of them are, but as said... that just shows you someone has looted them recently... I, personaly, do run into non-empty ones... Usualy there's lockpicks in them though

I noticed this today. I was one of the first people (I think) to log in after the EU server came back online. I was definitely one of the first people to spawn in the area I was in. So I took the opportunity to rush round and check out all the containers. However, almost every desk, cabinet etc... all came up grey and said empty !
(have seen a lot like this since too in the hours I've played since the patch)

Not farmers - directly...but their activities have caused Zen to make (at least temporary?) changes to the RNG-loot system. Everything is still instanced to the individual player, but the frequency of empty (even if closed) containers, the available types of loot and rate of appearance have certainly been changed.

I had the same experience last night in Coldharbour and in Daggerfall vr1 area (I'm EP). Everything was showing grey (as already opened) so i just decided to go back to questing... it's a pain in the ass since ZOS coul have just nerfed the motifs droprate not how the RNG from all "containers" work. Am a provisioner so i loot a lot.

ps. this "bug" or "feature" is something i noticed couple of times in Wailing prison starting area during beta.

You are correct. I play side by side with my wife & it has always been this way. Other people's looting of containers effects you in no way, except for Heavy Sacks & Chests.

Unfortunately when ZOS decided to do the "slightly" nerf, someone screwed up because everything is nerfed. Didn't hurt the bots because they just found another way around it, but it sure is hurting the players though. I have had a tremendous drop in available loot, and I don't just mean farming bosses, etc....Nothing is dropping from containers, level restriction on drops, and just basic junk dropping to sell to venders. I can't make any money and just barely enough to keep afloat at vr1 right now.
