Q: Regarding modifying TESO's client INI to improve graphics quality to the client

While im confident there is no EULA breach, since you are merely changing GFX settings and thats about it, I am a paranoid person.

Lately mods have been banning people left and right, so dont want to be banned for simply wanting to upgrade my visuals.

On ESO Reddit I found this fun guide:

***GUIDE HAS BEEN TRUNCATED FOR SECURITY REASONS, NO URL WILL BE DISCLOSED *****

SET MIP_LOAD_SKIP_LEVELS "-3"

SET HIGH_RESOLUTION_SHADOWS "1"

SET COLOR_CORRECTION "1"

SET GraphicsDriver.7 "D3D9" | "D3D11" | "OPENGL"

SET SimultaneousCharacterLoadLimit.2 "10"

SET SimultaneousCharacterDestroyLimit "10"

********

My question is - is it bannable to modify .ini file that is simply a TXT file that ultimately tells the game how to graphics ?

I know logic dictates it actually doesn't change anything game wise, but like I said before, mods have been ban happy and Im in no mood to be banned for something like this.

And before you ask, no, I did not try it. So cant really say if it works. From what people are saying it does wonders, screenshots confirm this. But I would like a confirmation from "green" before proceeding.

No, this is no more bannable than adjusting your graphics settings in-game is bannable.

I came to same conclusion, since its only reasonable.

    But maybe ...
Just maybe Zenimax doesn`t see it as such.

    Being paranoid here

The game is just too damn good to risk it.

At the moment, I'm too scared to even fart while playing unless I offend someone and get banned. It makes it worse that people aren't even told why. Lets hope its all settled come the time when people need to cough up some cash again to play.

/reported: You farted. Seriously though editing the INI in a Bethesda game is pretty much standard behavior although I haven't tried changing anything for this game yet. I did notice a line in there Set Simple_Shaders "0" and wondered if setting this to "1" might help people who are getting problems with not being able to generate the ShaderCache.cooked file properly or the Shader Model 3 required error. I have no way to test it though since I'm not experiencing either of these problems.

    P.S.
I just did some quick testing and discovered that SET Simple_Shaders is set to "1" only if the Minimum and Low presets are selected. Once you use the Medium preset it changes to "0". In the UserSettings.txt file that is available for copying from the Technical Support thread the SET Simple_Shader value is set to "0". Perhaps changing this value to "1" could help those with shader problems preventing the game from loading even after copy/pasting the INI file to the Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\Live folder.

    P.S.S.
I had beans for dinner last night. :'(

I've been with MMO's long enough to know what is happening, even if they aren't saying. The people getting banned are getting hit by detection methods put in place in a hurry to combat gold sellers. I don't think Zenimax was properly prepared for gold sellers...I don't think they really had a plan (they should have, based on what WOW has had to deal with, but that's water under the bridge now).

They're trying to get things that will detect and stamp out these people in a hurry. Most gold selling is done from compromised accounts, "selling" gold that was stolen from compromised accounts, and the spam is very harmful to the game. Innocent people are getting hit in the crossfire by doing simple trading that "looks" suspicious at a first glance.

I have seen at least one person get this overturned on appeal, and get 7 days free time credited. I think we need to be patient and give them time to get a proper detection system in place. Blizzard has had YEARS to fine tune theirs, and they STILL sometimes accidentally ban innocent people for things like trading gold to friends and guildmates.

The main issue I see is, communication with the people who put in appeals absolutely NEEDS to be improved. I'm not saying they need to tell people what they were banned for (that would give away detection methods), but they need to get a team on this and make these super high priority. It may not need to stay this way indefinitely, but at least until the birthing pains of the game are ironed out.
