Textures 'popping' in

I think this started with 1.0.1 patch. For the last couple of days I've noticed that the textures of a NPC will be extremely low resolution and then 'pop' into a high resolution version when approching them. The effect is very similar to that in Rage (though in Rage it was pretty much the entire scene). Has anyone else noticed this?

    Yes. It seems to be their server limitations. It's a reason why they can't increase the view distance much.

    I guess I'm not the only one then. Did you notice it only recently in the last couple of days?

    After reading your comment at first, it doesn't make sense that it would be a server limitation, though, since the scene is rendered locally and surely server-side a NPC is just an abstract data structure almost completely devoid of graphical data. However, limiting view distance could at least in part be influenced by server limitations and that could cause the client to not have high res textures loaded before a 'pop' would be noticed. Hmm... interesting. I haven't noticed a reduction in view distance, but maybe I haven't been paying enough attention.
