Honestly Scared to Play ESO

After seeing everything going on on the forums, and helping my husband deal with tickets he's submitted (Best Buy preorder nonsense, poor guy, we didn't know), and receiving NO help on my own ticket (which I don't know the ticket number for... I never received an email, and I didn't think I would need to screenshot my ticket for this), I'm really just very disillusioned about playing.

I don't want to be banned for doing nothing wrong, like the people banned for trading gold with their partners (since I'll be playing with my husband, yeesh), I don't want to log in and find out my bank is reset and emptied after playing through the early access period... I really just feel like subscribing at this point is a huge risk, and I feel like, as a couple, my husband and I have wasted $200 on a game that might just ban us or cause even more problems just trying to play. I haven't even subscribed yet, I'm that worried.

I've been looking and looking, and I'm really just not finding much positive about this game on the interwebs, including in the other forums here (don't worry, I'm not ONLY reading the support forums). I'm conflicted, torn, should I just give up and come back in a couple months? Or just move on and play something else? I don't know what to do, and my husband is feeling the same way.

I would suggest holding off activating any subs for the moment.

I didn't activate on Sunday and haven't yet while I wait to see how things play out.

They will undoubtedly settle down as ZOS works out these issues. They just don't have to do it on my 30 days of already paid for time.

Mm, a fair response. Seems like that's the most intelligent route at the moment.

Of course we all want to play so badly, it was so fun during early access. What a disappointment.

Im in a guild who pre-ordered this game and was in most of the betas.. Ive NEVER seen a bunch of people hate a game so much for SO many different reasons..
Either a quest got bugged and they cant even level up their VR, or they cant even do quests. One got banned for having the name Mr.T Baggin.. Banned, not renamed.
I couldnt even play the first day because of the bank thing.
The quest bugs i saw in the beta arent fixed (4 months to fix it)..
The list goes on but this is by far, the worst game ive seen at launch but there is one thing they have going for them..
The servers are up and it only lags sometimes!

I share your concern - I am not lucky enough to have a partner, let alone one that plays games

This is how it will roll for me:
    1. I get home from my job
    2. I open my package from amazon.com
    3. Does it contain elder scrolls online imperial collector edition?
    a. No? Return package, request refund. I'm done
    b. Yes?
    i. Open package, hope molag bal statue not broken
ii. Are the codes in my box?
    a. No? Return package, request refund. I'm done.
    b. Yes? Activate sub, play for 6 months. Re-evaluate

Agree. Let the dust settle because I can say from experience that if you go to ZO looking for any kind of DETAILED answer about what is coming up, what they are going to do in the near future for game fixes... they just don't seem to have that answer. One of the message I got from my ticket, however, implied there'd be a limited window of opportunity to return digital products. IMPLIED, it was not said specifically, what was said was roughly "Many companies won't refund a digital product after a reasonable amount of time." So don't panic, but don't put it off til June either if that's what you decide. :)

Please try to keep in mind, that mostly people NOT playing or enjoying the game are comming to the forum and voicing their mostly strongly biased oppinion.

I'd guess that 90% are happily playing the game and are enjoying it ( like me and the other 499 people from our guild )

Many Forums in general are one of the worst parts of the internet. Full of hate, full of lies and full of negativity.

Don't ever judge anything in the world by the impression you got from any forum.

Also, from what i learned in life, many people are like "if i am not having fun, nobody else should" and so they come here and try to ruin everyones else fun and try evertyhing to poison any good mood.

Personally, the guy being banned for the name doesn't bother me one bit. The TOS clearly state they have the right to do exactly that when you break their naming policy. Most MMO's do rename and usually end up having to force that same player to rename their character several more times, since apparently coming up with something original and non offensive is hard...

As for the OP, personally I have only had one real issue. First day of early access my son's Imperial Edition purchase took about 6 hours to actually post on his account, so we could not play the first day since by the time it did post it was his bedtime. Since then, neither of us has run into anything monstrous barring one broken quest, which was fixed a day later.

I'm scared to play because I have lost progress twice now. First was when my bank reset last week (I am still waiting for that to be resolved, can anyone tell me how long "shortly" is?). Second is just now, I got kicked and rolled back about 20 minutes while in Stormhaven.

I am playing the game and have not had any problems. That said, I too am afraid to use the bank for fear of loosing my stuff. I note bans and wonder if I can be next even though i do not even trade..lol.

I really think the folks up above really need to come out with a post and explain what they are working on and explain where they are on fixing some of these problems.

For now I am playing and very much enjoying the game although I am not upgrading my bank so I am playing the "keep room in my bags " game.

Pretty much open beta for first 2 months. Things are going to crash/ deleted/ people will be pissed. I'd hold off at least 2 months. For me, I've had some game issues including the fall through world bug, some quests not working, also lost 20 bank slots. I'll stick it out till something really bad happens then I'm done. And yeah waiting with no word from support sucks, I've put in tickets on my bank slots missing and got the generic we're looking into it. That was 2 weeks ago.

Yep people are trading large amounts of gold with people they are leveling with from the start and ZOS marks them as Gold Sellers and bans/suspends them

  • disexistencenub19_ESO
Forums are always full of negativity. The people that are enjoying it aren't posting, they are playing the game. As far as problems go, I have not ran into anything major myself and I wouldn't worry about being banned from anything you do that is within regular game bounds. Always judge something on your own merits, not others. Are you having fun? If yes, that should be the deciding factor.

Other than a few quest bugs in early access, I haven't had a problem. Yesterday i played a new character from start to 15 and haven't hit any road blocks other than trying to track down a quest or 2 that I'm missing in zone to finish. I have played on and off with my fiancee and we haven't run into any issues, but we've only traded loot and mats.

I haven't had too many issues. The only things that have pissed me off was that I got my first treasure map from a chest only to have a rollback occur and I lost it. 2nd issue being that during character creation the zoom feature was bugged so my character doesn't look the way I wanted him to. But I haven't had any bank issues, glitches, ban hammering of any sort.

I just suffer the occasional quest bugs that other people get. But really all in all this is the best launch that I've actually partaken in gameplay wise. To be honest my customer service experiences have been great too, but at the same time my issues are not game breaking like everyone else has had.

They're patching the game on a regular basis and all the low level stuff is pretty much problem free from when I went through it. If money is tight for you like for some other people who have voiced their concerns about the bank charges then I would wait. If you played beta or early access and enjoyed the game then I would go ahead and just take the leap since the game is improving over time and it really is the most fun I've had in an mmo in years.

anyone that enjoys the elder scrolls has fantastic taste.

it's just bizarre the company that owns and operates the franchise has a reputation for actively despising it's fans. quite bizarre really

i guess that's the way it is with AAA. they just take their fans for granted.

guess this is why gaming is dieing :( all the good IP is owned by AAA and most of the indie stuff is boring or unscalable due to no funding

Eh, early game glitches are common. Especially for bethsada. anyone remember the early days of skyrim or oblivion? But they always get them ironed out. And in the meantime, honestly are the glitches and gameplay truly so horrible?

I do feel bad for the guys that get banned for quirky names, or the people dealing with terrible shipping issues (albeit an issue with the shipper not Zenimax)

Good advice from an above poster though, If you feel your getting ripped off on your subscription, don't subscribe until they have everything running smooth.

I never had any problems with TES single-player games. But they weren't developed by ZOS, they had Bethesda.

And yes, the 'glitches' are truly horrible, considering that its a waste of time that I'm already wasting playing their game. :P

I'm scared of the bankslot-bug too, but aside from that fear, i have a great time playing. It's a bit tricky managing inventory without upgrading the bank further, but so far its doable.I just try to keep important stuff out of the bank. I'm waiting for the staff to fix the bankupgrade-bug before i spend gold on the upgrades. I had some problems with restoring the guardians during early access, and an unknown error episode- but that was early access, and is fixed. I don't regret subscribing or upgrading to imperial edition. I just wish i had more spaaaaaace

@Kee I know this may sound crazy, but don't fear the unknown. Many people here have issues, some make up or emphasize issues for attention and to cause fear. Like they said before, most people with no issues are playing not posting, so your getting one side of the coin. I myself am only here because my package hasn't arrived from amazons issue. But playing each time in early access, I am level 14 and had no issues, no missing bank slots, no bugs, no disconnects other than early access ending and having no game.

So what I'm trying to say, each person will have a different outcome depending on certain variables. You can wait 2 months and hope things are 100% or take the chance to play a fun game that you may not see any of the issues. Its up to you, but I know I'll risk it myself, cause I've yet to get hit.

good luck and hope to ser you guys in game.

Fair enough, I appreciate your honesty. But as others have mentioned, money is tight, my hubs and I just worry about wasting money. But yeah, aside from a shipper issue (not ZOS' fault) personally we haven't had any real issues to speak of with the game or ZOS.

Seeing only one side of the coin really makes you second-guess or re-think your dedication to something, though, as I'm sure you understand.

I'm currently unable to play, simply because my Imperial Edition arrived on the 4th with a broken statue so I promptly contacted the retailer and arranged a return and replacement. Had to return the complete package so I have to wait up to 10 working days for the replacement to arrive and, quite frankly, I'm now seeing that as something of a small blessing in disguise! Hopefully by the time I get the replacement Zenimax will have managed to resolve most if not all of the bugs we're currently seeing players report and maybe they'll also have given some sort of response to many of the other concerns being raised as well.

So yeah, I'd say if you haven't set up a subscription plan yet it might be best to wait a week or 2, maybe even 3. You're not going to lose any game time, you'll still get the 30 days free, the only thing I can think of that some may consider a bit of a negative by waiting is that there may be less players in the initial zones. Then again, some may consider that to be a bonus as well! *shrug*
