Why would anyone not open the chest after they have dug it up?
Were server disconnects between digging a chest up and opening it a common problem?

More info required with all available urgency. Torches going out and pitchforks getting full. Please advise.

It just didn't make any sense to me when I was using it. Not mad, just confused.

I'm not sure how often it happened, but I had it happening once. And in such a situation, the chest's content was lost as the map was already used up.
Even if it only happens occasionally, with this game having millions of players, this would still mean a certain number of complaints (and possibly support tickets) coming in. I see that the devs might want to avoid that hassle, if it's that easily avoidable.
