What are you guys doing? Playing more in first or third person? I'm noticing that it find it easier to play in third person as my mage tank. Just wondering what you all are doing :)

    Third person except for screenshots.

Right now, first person Field of View is far too low. It's something like 65, which is the same mistake that was made with TES games.

In TES games, everybody who knows how to use a console set their FoV to 75-90. We desperately need a FoV slider on ESO.

I actually get a headache in first person. It's just far too narrow, and seems too close to the ground. It's like using a 1024x768 CRT monitor all over again.

always preferred 3rd person myself, although in Skyrim I found myself fighting in 3rd person and exploring in 1st person, because it was so damn hard to see details with all the...oppressive, muted colors.

This game, however, I've stayed in 3rd person - I prefer my MMO's in 3rd - always have - doesn't mean I hate 1st person, just...don't miss it when it's not there usually.

Ya I agree with the traveling part, always in first person. Although on my all DPS game and melee i seemed to enjoy being in first person.

I'm use to this because of skyrim.

I agree about the FOV. I find myself always using third person for combat and usually using first person for looting... for some reason trying to point at something loot seems a little flaky in third person. I can go either way for strolling through a city.

It's a shame really. First person adds to immersion quite a bit. Instead of being a god hovering over the character, you get to see through the character's eyes, and not be magically aware of what's going on behind you unless you look.

3rd person for combat and on the battlefield. First person if I'm travelling and looting an area, sometimes when I'm fighting 1 on 1.

It's kind of weird I thought every one was going to say first person and almost every one is saying third :confounded:

I prefer first for immersion, but the advantage gained by third person in combat is too much to ignore.

ZOS does know about our FoV woes. Hopefully they'll get a slider in before we grow old. ^_^

I thought I would prefer first-person, as that is always how I've played TES games - but I really enjoy third-person is ESO, the animations are great IMO.

Same as Pelerin, here. In the single player TES games, I mostly use first person, especially in combat. It's too hard to aim in third. Here, I've found myself almost constantly in third person. I really like it. Admittedly, it's a little disorienting to turn almost sideways to talk to an NPC when you're already looking right at him.

Maybe it's because it's all so new and pretty, but I like the larger FoV. I drink in the flora and fauna and sunflares and water effects like a thirsty guy sucking down a six pack. I even prefer third person combat.

First person in TESO gives me motion sickness after a while. Maybe when they give us that FoV slider I'll change my style.

I want to play 1st person and I like it really, but I can't because it makes me feel very sick as Field of View is extremely low for my widescreen 1080p 27". I have no idea why they made the 1st person view unplayable by not giving any opportunity to increase Field of View.

I play first person mostly, as I cant really make the third person view work in combat. Its hard to target stuff as a melee tank there, I keep facing into the wrong direction ...

But its also a much more immersive feeling if the sun is right in your eyes and you get a much better feeling for mobs and the environment around you.

Third person I only use in town and to check how the equipment suits my char or when I craft and do screenshot stuff.

You can say I do the things exactly in the opposite way to you guys *laughs*.

You have to play 3rd person. The game wasn't designed to accommodate 1st person. The fov and spell effects make it unplayable a lot of the time.

i use first person all the time unless im doing PvP, i have no problem with it on my monitor setup, a slider would be better but i got used to it.

I expected I would be playing in first person, but so far it's been almost solely in third. That's fairly likely to change once the FoV slider is added though.

I use 1st pretty much all the time except for bosses, then I switch to 3rd to get a better view of their attacks etc.

First. I'd rather do most everything in first. Gives me a much better idea of whether I'm in line of sight for npcs or not. It always feels like third person is cheating with the viewpoint. If I'm playing a group, like DA:O I have no issues with using it; tactical overhead for setting up a fight is good. For Elder Scrolls though, first person only [unless the devs force a change, like riding your horse.]

I like using First Person when I am running around towns looting the buildings, but I scroll out into Third Person when in the open world, I found that the extra hight lets me scope out material nodes, and in combat I have a clearer idea of whats going on.

even though I can't see enough to "Block in the knick of time" or interrupt spell casts unless they are super drawn out and flashy haha.

The problem with first person is that you miss a lot of spell indicators on the ground. Dodging becomes more difficult as your awareness goes down. It also stops you from knowing what, if anything, is behind you and makes your reaction time much slower.

And on top of all that, I just like seeing my character. I don't like feeling like I'm watching a game through a video camera detached from my character.

    Depends,
i do prefer 3rd person for a lot of the things in game.
i normally use first person for bow combat. but the field of view does my head in
The things i say are my thoughts and don't reflect any group i'm part of.

I tend to actually like doing almost everything in first person. I think its because I played both Morrowind and Skyrim in first person, so I'm just use to it. Though I will slide out to 3rd person if I know there is more then 2 enemies. Since this allows me to keep track of all my targets.

If really just comes down to what your comfortable with and what works for you. :)

Like others have said, I would prefer first person - resettting the FOV in Skryim and Oblivion made FPV a habit. I think it's more immersive and combat is easier.

But it makes my head hurt, too, and so hopefully Zenimax will make good on their promise of create a slider for TPV. Third person, ironically, is for screenshots that involve me! And for exploring, and rping and, if I think I can get away with it, combat.

My real problem with the current fov is I can't always see my all my enemies ...

I had a ball today joining in on 4 all out assaults on anchors. I didn't have much problem noticing the red or green circles, and I've always noticed the "cone of fire" for archers and the solid red track for the kwama and clannfears.

The semi-limited fov is also okay; my character wears a helm; I wouldn't be getting a 360 degree fov anyway. I probably look strange, because I do scan the area frequently. I just really don't like third person.

And see, personally I love that lol.

Not having a demi-god's view of the battlefield. Just being a normal mortal with limited vision, no eyes in the back of my head. Adds a level of adrenaline to fights. Makes you want to look around before engaging the enemy, to find terrain advantages, and make sure you've had some good food and drink recently.

But then again, I'm one of those crazy people that plays Skyrim with all the realism mods and Requiem, so every battle is an epic struggle for life.

Granted, this is all with FOV set to 85. Default in Skyrim is 65, and that seems to be the ESO default as well, which is not at all accurate to human vision, and thus the cause of nausea for some of us when using it.

IDEALLY I like FOV 85-90 with a light vignette via SweetFX to blur the outer edges of the screen. It really "focuses" your vision inward in a subtle, but powerful way.

Third person all the time, usually zoomed out as much as possible.
