I'm NOT talking about any SPECIFIC items so PLEASE DO NOT lock the post or attach it to another post! I'm wanting to know players and customer services perspective on FUTURE items.

Is a prison cell the best place to give players items that have to be transferred through a bank that does not exist in the same realm...?

Is this the best place for players who are EXCITED about playing the game to receive lengthy mail to read inside of a prison cell that they are overly anxious to get out of and explore?

Is this the best place to give people who constantly remake their characters over and over to get them perfect...one time items that they can never get back once redeemed and the character is deleted?

I am just curious.

I agree, you should start to receive mail after you get to your main city, some1 more into an immersive experience might even like to have to go to a mail for trading store to start receiving mail.

As long you do not get your mail the items will be there.

While I do agree that the issue involving the deleted items- account wide rewards for pre-ordering and such NOT being sent to every new character is a flaw in their system, mostly because they didn't inform anyone of it.

However, the game follows the usual game pattern: Your character bound mail or rewards are in the mail in your starting zone. Just like WoW, or SWTOR, or Rift. The only difference is that ESO doesn't use actual mailboxes so you can open it anywhere, and that the ESO starting zone isn't a town or village or planet, it's a prison.
As a roleplayer I'm all for immersion, but I realize it is a game, and sometimes games have to throw away some logic to make things work. Gameplay=/=lore&logic.

I think a better option would be to have an NPC outside of the prison who is near a bank either hold the items until the player gives him/her a certain code or after the NPC explains that the items can be permanently deleted then sends the items to the players mail.

Or the most logical of all.....each new character created on the account gets the items via mail.

    Yup. Like most games.

It really wouldn't have been such an issue if they had alerted people to the system beforehand. Because we all assumed that it would function like almost all the other MMOs. But they didn't, and the lack of communication is what caused the issue.

At least Zenimax is aware of the issue and is going to help the people that lost their items. All in all it sucks but at least it's not a bug where character's are eaten or deleted or locked. It's a fair launch issue.
