Maybe everyone will be playing from their refrigerator.

It’s so good. Totally deserved GOTY over Zelda (which should be saying something considering my name lol)
You don’t need to know really anything about D&D or even the first two Baldur’s Gate games for this one. Everything you need to know is shown off as you go, and the game completely encourages exploration.
I would suggest doing a first playthrough with a custom character (or Dark Urge) instead of an Origin though. Each of the companions is so well written (and voiced!) so it’d be a shame to miss out on one because they’re the player character.
But yes, the writing and acting is glorious. There are an insane number of lines in the game - pretty well every other dialogue gives a racial- or class-based option with unique responses. I still remember that the final choice was one that actually made me turn off the game for a while to make a full pro/con list before I could choose, and even then I think that character has different lines (and motivations) depending on how you’ve treated them throughout the game.
I really want Bethesda to really study that game before TES6 comes out, because BG3 is almost a textbook of “how to make your game land well with people and be super memorable and replayable.”

Yeah, that’s what I look for in a game I’m paying to play, forcing myself to grind content I hate.
The only thing that could make it better is switching to a payment model that charges me more for less.
Oh wait, they already did that.

Wow that's high praise. I was going to wait until it was on some kind of sale but I think I'll just spend the 70 bucks.
