What would make you spend more time in ESO?

A few things that come to mind:
    • My main (sorc) feeling usable as a parse DD in high level trials - preferably without the answer being "subclass Herald of the Tome" (atm even that doesn't bring sorc up far enough because all the sorc lines are too poor).
    • More generally, balance between various skill lines so you don't lose so much by not running a very few specific things. Communication from zos that consistently feels like more than "we'll do better next time" and/or silence.
    • Return of 3 team Battlegrounds.
    • Hyped new content turning out to be something other than reskinned dolmens and fetch/carry quests.
    • Less reliance on event fomo to get people into the game (I don't play games for this kind of busywork).
    • Overall reduction in the cost or increase in content - game feels like less value for money as of this year.

I'm not sure, but one of my guilds raid leads is a sorc main. They run daedric, tome, assassin and are usually high or top of logs.

But it doesn't change the fact that those two subs are basically the meta. If I run my heavy sorc I'm lower to mid in the logs. On arcanist I'm upper mid usually. Quite drastic difference and both are about equal effort.

They require effort and game knowledge but they are all soloable, other than NC (due to the silly drawbridge mech).

Not everyone will be able to put game knowledge into practice even with a lot of effort.

The whole point of the game, any game, is to overcome challenges.
Some challenges cannot be overcome in an MMO. Like, say, less than par internet connection or ping where timing is necessary for a win. Or someone developing arthritis. This comment of yours is just a polite way of using the ignorant "git gud".

Specifically, what do you think should be changed about or added to ESO that would make you spend more time in-game?

More new PvE zones with good, longer quests and good stories. Y'know, Elder Scrolls stuff.
If I'm going to have to pay for season passes now, I need to feel like it's worth the money - re-using old zones doesn't really meet that - unless there's a huge improvement in story and quests to make up for it.
Even then... running around places you've run around a million times before will still get boring eventually.

Plus... a PvE version of Cyrodiil and IC, just saying.

Instanced / layered delves, public dungeons, and quest locale interiors

More challenging quest / delve / public dungeon adversity

These two adjustments applied together, optional or otherwise, would solve both content congestion for chapter launches & events, as well as all the grievances on overland difficulty.

Make every group dungeon solo-able on normal with the difficulty / heat solution applied, and 95% of the game (sans trials) would become accessible to 100% of players, solo or grouped, both high-traffic or off-season.
Thank you for coming to my T E D talk

Complete removal of surveys from the game, now that ZOS has made it absolutely clear that they have no intention whatsoever to make the act of gathering the resources from surveys even remotely feasible or bearable.
No, instead they made unspecified surveys stackable - which created even more items to fill up crafters' inventories on top of the hundreds or thousands of surveys that already existed in the game before this happened.

Really, just remove them entirely and have their resources delivered by hireling mails or crafting writ reward boxes.

The need to run to and fro to make a survey location refresh has not been tackled at all,. When a player approaches a survey location, its yield should be the usual amount multiplied by the number of identical surveys in the character's inventory, not this ugly mess we've been stuck with for aeons.

But no, we got unknown surveys that can be stacked. :( This is a complete non-solution.

Removal of surveys might possibly balance out that horrible feeling of utter frustration and sheer disbelief I felt after that change to surveys had been announced - which sort of made it clear for me that there was no will at all to make ESO enjoyable ever.

To be honest. Black Desert Online levels of Character Creation.

I enjoy seeing myself just as much as the world I play in, and a high poly character model with substantial customization works wonders in making me want to keep playing. It's why I heavily modded my TES:Skyrim character.

In almost every other MMO I’ve played, there’s at least one major update each year -- something that brings new level caps, skills, and gear to chase. Sometimes even a new class, which was just the cherry on top. These updates always gave players something fresh to strive for: new goals to reach, new playstyles to explore, and new ways to have fun.

I’ve never been a huge fan of ESO’s Champion Point system, because I’ve always enjoyed the sense of vertical progression that comes from new level caps and abilities. That said, ESO has done a great job over the years keeping things interesting with new sets. Many of them completely reshaped how we played -- entire builds and playstyles were born from them. Waiting for those new sets and theorycrafting around them was what kept me hooked.

But lately, the new gear sets just feel… uninspired. It’s as if the developers are afraid to shake up the meta too much -- to release something bold or disruptive. Unfortunately, that kind of caution leads to something worse than imbalance -- stagnation.

ESO thrives when the meta evolves. Challenge it. Change it. Let the game grow and surprise us again.

    Just my two cents...

A system of some kind that provides a genuine alternative to guild membership for selling things. I'm on my latest break from the game but my big thing is housing and, as always, I got completely fed up with having to grind for gold to satisfy my furnishing habit without being able to sell things in the player economy in a sensible manner.

...Stop work on ESO1, clean up the code, and move to ESO2.

What makes you think an ESO 2 aka a new game, where people loose everything they worked on in the past 10 years would help ?

If ZOS came out and straight out admitted that ESO performance was unfixable. That no one was left who really understood the original code and relied on patching over the top of existing errors to counteract them rather than identifying and fixing the original bug. If they also admitted that the game was getting worse over time and would continue to do so, I would certainly support ESO2.

Honestly, the never ending changes (even after they said they heard us about the changes) make me not want to play anymore.

Subclassing is one of those ideas that on paper seems cool but now you have zero class identity and everyone just running the same meta skill. You no longer get that rewarding feeling of being the healer who came in clutch and the group counted on you. Everyone is the same (more or lesS).

These never ending - massive changes - make it very irritating.

I wish they could come in and just clean the game up. Remove the bottom 30-40% of sets people don't use. Remove all the bloat in the game. Revert some of the bad game designs. Fix PvP without dumbing it down like they are with vengance (this screams of accesability like they did back in the day.. news flash pvp is supposed to be hard.. I get my ass handed to me 24/7 and it's still a blast).

I agree with several other changes/options/points on the thread, but this stood out to me.

Several years ago I played a particular space-based game for hours and hours and hours each week. Yes, there were some monotonous, redundant bits, but overall I felt a pleasant not-overwhelming challenge in gameplay, plenty of exploration, plenty of battle, decent rewards, upgrades to my gear (which included spaceships :) ) were doable with a little planning. The quests/stories were interesting, decisions seemed to matter even if only a little bit. But then, apparently the devs thought they needed to make all the changes in one update, nearly the entire battle system was tossed out and significantly changed as well as other substantial changes. Some of the changes were good, most seemed to be change for change's sake. I adapted but play time reduced.

There are two times a year I have virtually no playtime - one for a week and one for two months - because of obligations to various organizations I'm involved with. Inevitably, major updates occurred within the two month and the "clean up" phase was in the week. And each time the changes were major. So just as I was figuring out the changes, the "clean up" would happen and undo a few of the mechanics which had gone sideways but put in a few new ones in the meanwhile. After a while, I stopped playing altogether because every six months or so, the entire combat system or other significant system was thrown out and/or altered in a fundamental manner. People still play the game, of course, but I do not.

ESO is sort of like that for me. I have two + accounts with NA and EU characters on both. I love the housing but am disappointed when I discover certain furnishings or patterns for said furnishings are gated. I'm really sad for other players who have to struggle with half the furnishing slots I have as a sub and who can't even pick all the flowers and chop all the wood because they can't access the magical bag of harvesting. Pretty sure I haven't completed any chapter beyond Markarth on any of my accts, either. The storylines are increasingly poorly-written, uninteresting, and feel rushed rather than immersive. I particularly dislike Necrom's story when it ventures into Apocrypha though I don't mind exploring the zones.

For those who subclass and like it, great. I'd already adapted my girls to the flavor of subclassing long ago with weapon and skill choices. My first character ever was a sorc whom I played as an Arcane ranger. It was a very effective build until class "balance" was undertaken and borked how some skills interacted. I avidly worked toward achievements with whichever character it made sense, story-wise, until AWA hit.

Change is good most of the time. Dust the place, kick out dust bunnies which are clogging the vents, have a hard look at what isn't working or what isn't being used. But "balance" doesn't seem to be the goal, and storytelling has been cut out of the equation. The different racial perks don't matter if there is no recognition by NPCs/storyline of the character's origins. Leveling achievement doesn't matter if the game constantly pushes the player to level up 50-150% faster with scrolls so they can reach the mythical endgame. Skillbar decisions similarly don't matter if the skills are so bland and nearly interchangeable. The different classes don't matter if there is access to other classes' skills.

    Not being “stuck in combat”

My abilities consistently firing when the button is pressed

Not being stuck in limbo for 10 seconds, able to move but not switch weapon bars then suddenly turning into the Keystone cops to catch up to the rest of the server

Being able to shut my launcher without sending MS an error report

Enemies dying when the run out of hitpoint instead of standing there for three seconds before I can loot them

My mail updating to zero when all have been read instead of resetting to one or two when there are no mails.

I can go on if it would be helpful.
