For a "Once in a lifetime" event - why are the rewards so anemic?

Because it's a really long event. We have barely received 3% of the rewards we're going to get.

You may say that it's disappointing that you only get 1 or 2 Haj-Mota scales per day. Until you consider that this event is so long, you might end up with 10-30 unused Haj-Mota scales in your inventory.

The event reward drop rate isn't low. The event is just really long, so rewards are spaced out.

Add to this the cultural problem of the ESO community becoming used to grinding and rushing events to get all the rewards as fast as possible.

Are they paying you for these posts or are you just doing it out of pure ignorance?

First of all, kudos to OP for their writing style. It must not be easy to keep a consistent pattern through several posts, some of which aren't short.

Yeah, I do agree the rewards aren't anything about which to write home. I don't complain so much about getting piles of Solstice gear because they often mean I get a nice amount of style mats after deconstruction. I do complain about blue coffers often having only Solstice gear. We all know the big scary wall is coming down one way or another, which might explain that mysterious jump in progress to 25% on the PC/NA server, so the motivation to do all those quests is mostly the rewards. One or two haj mota parts, maybe a Stirk Fellowship motif page and rarely a Wormwhatever style page every day aren't very rewarding. I don't feel like I'm a part of history, I feel like I'm devoting more of my time to almighty RNGeesus. Even the questgivers' dialogue appears shallow, as the Nord who asks for crafted gear gets very repetitive by the time I'm done with him.

On the other hand, I'm not sure better rewards would've made this event much better. I can't quite determine the reason, but I can't bring myself to care all that much about bringing down the Writhing Wall. Maybe that's because this involves grinding, maybe that's because we know the percentage doesn't matter, just like the points in "Whose Line is it Anyway?", or maybe that's because of some deeper problem with the game.

Maybe I just miss the old and predictable chapters system.

Reward drop rates are bad in this event. I was lucky and got the house last night, but motiffs, blueprints, etc. are dropping at a ridiculously low rate. And I get it, they need to be a low rate to give us incentive to keep playing the event, but this is one of the reasons why this event is WAY TOO LONG to begin with, and should have been calibrated to happen over 2 weeks, not almost 2 months.

My best friend got the house a couple days ago. He doesn't decorate or do housing at all. Some days he forgets to do the event dailies. I'm doing the dailies across 16 characters and I'm virtually certain I won't get the house, in spite of desperately wanting it. RNG never cuts me a break. Sometimes it seems like the harder you try, the less likely it is the game's RNG will work out for you.

I can't tell if the house even drops past phase one. It looks like it doesn't.

I'm not threatening to quit or anything (I think ultimatums are childish) but this entire disappointing experience has significantly diminished my enjoyment of the game. I've been considering what I would play if I needed a long break.

I don't know. I'm not outraged, but the Writhing Wall as part of the season pass package has made me very... Tired. I wish they would have kept the chapter format and maybe given themselves a few months more dev time for each one, and explained they needed to raise the price to reflect inflation. We all knew ESO needed some inflation adjustments. I think we would have been understanding.

It's not long if you quit the second day. :)
