I mean, that is without considering that many if not most use the Direct launcher, not steam, and that it is, as Karthrag says, without also counting Epic store...

We gonna be rocking in ESO when we are in our 90s hahaha

They have given away ESO on Epic for free once too.

I have the original launcher, but since the Epic freebie I only play it there because I don't have to put in my password anymore (since Epic launcher handles that automatically).

I assume there players like me who grabbed it and play on Epic since then.

Pretty sure the writhing wall event, second part of the zone and Vengeance 3 will prove the 'game is dying' people wrong once again.

The steam numbers also prove their seasonal model (which is not even a full seasonal model this year) is working. The past years there where huge highs when a chapter launched followed by a high fluctuation of deep lows after the content dried out. This year there has been a moderate summer holiday dip but otherwise the numbers have remained fairly steady with their release cadence of a zone, pursuits, 2 dungeon packs, Vengeance etc.

I know people over here won't like it but player number wise the game is doing absolutely great, especially after switching to a new model. 2025 shows the most consistent player counts month-to-month.

To be fair, I think players are massively underestimating ESO's overall playerbase. This may be because of all the issues and negativity around here, and the game's major issues being discussed often(PvP/performance/fake roles/etc).

This a 100 percent. We forum dwellers are just a tiny tiny tiny part of the playerbase. Most of the things you read here is mostly negative stuff where usually the same handfull people keep echo chambering the same 5 topics for the past 5 years and when they eventually get closed they create a brand new topic to revert back the same discussion they have been having for 5 years. It is quite amusing. This all really contrasts with my ingame experience where my guilds and even pugs of dungeons and trials are usually a very friendly and wholesome experiences.

We always get the typical "The game is dying" in Reddit and FB groups, band it never is, I always see a ton of people, but at least in PC NA I see now, that I have been playing again for 2 weeks so far(and will go on until next year) that there is a TON more than I had seen before, AND I LOVE IT.

There is many of us that have been playing since the betas, that play for months, then leave for months, and that is normal, it is the game's life cycle, I also(And my guess is many) go back to Skyrim at least 2 times a year, that is just what bethesda games are

But now you go anywhere and everywhere and there is a lot of people running around, doing missions, exploring and so on.

I am wondering though, do many noobs and tired vets no longer pay the sub? I could never play without the craft bag, but as I some times spend hours farming and doing writs and such, I have noticed that despite there being more players than I had seen in a LONG time, I also se a ton more mats available, when some times, even with "less" players, say, 2 years ago, I would not find more than a couple nods every once in a while, and good luck with chests... these past 2 weeks I have seen more nodes untouched than ever.

In any case, that sort of matters but not at the same time, so long as people keep buying the game

what? game is pretty dead compared to what it used to be. long queues for dungeons as a tank, not a lot going on in group finder. which really sucks because im back to the game and enjoying it again. but game is pretty dead, look at steam charts. but summer is almost over, i know i didnt play much at all during june and july, moreso in august because it was too hot outside.
I honestly don't know why I see a few(Because I admit, I have seen a few in Reddit, and you here) saying about long waiting times, I queue for a daily dungeon with my DD and I get in to a group in about 20-30 mins MAX.(Around 5pm cst)
20-30 mins is a lot longer than it used to be. not long ago dps queue for random was 10 mins, you could almost set your watch to it. queue, go get a coffee, come back and check the timer ... get ready for the queue to pop at 10 mins. 20-30 mins is looooonnnngggg.

Basically ESO as a casual solo game is alive and probably fine. ESO as an MMORPG is not fine, it’s definitely dying. The strict solo players and ultra casuals can probably keep things going for awhile though.

A lot of solo questers and players don’t actually interact with the game’s community. I think they base how alive the game is on how many people they see. Even OP is assuming that the game must be doing better than ever because everywhere they go they see people…

If people playing aren’t interacting with ESO’s community, seeing them is not much different than seeing an NPC though.

For those actually apart of a community it’s a very different story.

The PvP community has already died. Imperial City is totally empty at all times. Cyrodiil even if it appears to be pop capped has very little activity going on. It’s likely a combination of low population caps and general disinterest in actual PvP. The latest Whitestrake’s event had incredibly low turnout. BGs have long queues and such few people in them that the MMR system doesn’t work because there aren’t enough players at the same skill levels to put against each other.

The endgame PvE and trial community has also essentially died. There’s no real competition in terms of score pushing and some trials are straight up being completed in a little over a minute with very minimal effort. A lot of the old names have disappeared and there’s way less activity in score boards and ESO logs.

Dungeon queues take significantly longer as they once did. It feels harder to find certain items in guild stores. It’s getting more common for me to see no listing for certain items at all.

The content creator space is really looking grim. The biggest names haven’t touched ESO in a long time and the few remaining ones seem jaded.

So yea ESO is probably fine if you play it like a solo game anyway. Otherwise it’s in rough shape.

lowest monthly number in 7 years (also a generous number as it seems to be verging on dropping lower pretty soon)
as for wall event if it is another % of player thing do something then it will be those numbers it is based off, or even (dont know) just those that bought the season pass
i would like to add although personally i do not like what happened with eso lately, i must admit i think the game has gone in good direction overall, i am just still a bit annoyed about subclassing even if it is a good thing i guess

I just wish they would improve farming locations in newer DLC locations to deal with the overcrowding on PC-NA.

Same, I love eso and ive been playing since launch and only had a couple of breaks which was good for me cos I came back and love it even more.

No other game has the housing system or amount of content as does eso imo.
