I love that there is so much people playing the game(PC NA)

We always get the typical "The game is dying" in Reddit and FB groups, band it never is, I always see a ton of people, but at least in PC NA I see now, that I have been playing again for 2 weeks so far(and will go on until next year) that there is a TON more than I had seen before, AND I LOVE IT.

There is many of us that have been playing since the betas, that play for months, then leave for months, and that is normal, it is the game's life cycle, I also(And my guess is many) go back to Skyrim at least 2 times a year, that is just what bethesda games are

But now you go anywhere and everywhere and there is a lot of people running around, doing missions, exploring and so on.

I am wondering though, do many noobs and tired vets no longer pay the sub? I could never play without the craft bag, but as I some times spend hours farming and doing writs and such, I have noticed that despite there being more players than I had seen in a LONG time, I also se a ton more mats available, when some times, even with "less" players, say, 2 years ago, I would not find more than a couple nods every once in a while, and good luck with chests... these past 2 weeks I have seen more nodes untouched than ever.

In any case, that sort of matters but not at the same time, so long as people keep buying the game

I started playing in 2019 as a casual, since then I had ESO+ for maybe half the time. I cancelled it maybe 2 or 3 years ago. I use an addon and storage characters to deal with the craft bag situation and use free eso+ or a purchased month of eso+ for putting things into craft bag and housing.

I agree completely. If the steam chart trends hold up, September could be the month where we might even beat the record numbers that haven't seen 2018!

You realize that ESO became available on Epic games in 2023, right? It has fairly regularly been in the top 100 games over there since it was move there.

I mean, that is without considering that many if not most use the Direct launcher, not steam, and that it is, as Karthrag says, without also counting Epic store...

Well damn. There must have been a ton of players who swapped over to playing ESO on the native + the epic games launcher. Clearly they're the reason the player count dipped.

Honestly, a post like this just makes me think that things are looking so grim that you felt the need to try to bring in more positivity. I never saw a post like this in 2020 when the population was actually booming. Seems more like denial.

To be fair, I think players are massively underestimating ESO's overall playerbase. This may be because of all the issues and negativity around here, and the game's major issues being discussed often(PvP/performance/fake roles/etc). Players like to project their dissatisfaction onto others and on how they view the playerbase as a whole.

But in reality, if some site lists the most played MMORPG's or playerforums anywhere discuss the most popular/most played MMORPG's, ESO is always atleast in the top 5. Mostly in the top 3 with WoW and FF14. Which means ESO may be doing extremely well, playercount-wise(moneymaking-wise this may be different).

ESO is played through multiple launchers on PC and on multiple platforms(PC/Xbox/PS), meaning the overall population is quite spread out. That does not mean there isn't a very large overall population though!

ESO is quite popular still, even after all this time!

PS: Not everyone plays at the same time of day, and players take breaks from ESO every now and then.

Subclassing has killed the game for me. It's definitely not that popular among the playerbase. This year's story content wasn't that good so far. Going back to 4 dungeons a year is good but there are just too many rushers, partially due to subclassing, that unless you have friends to run them with you can't really enjoy them. So yeah situation looks looks grim and I do believe steam charts show trends really good.

When Zos introduced addons for console you could see that in the first week around 40.000 individual players downloaded the most popular addon and that is in the 1 week not counting PS4 players, and there are for sure ps5 players that didnt download it.

That seems like a pretty healty number for an 11 year old game but its not crazy.

And yeah Crossplay is still needed just want to put that in.

People were stuck in their homes in 2020 due to COVID lock-down, so people who were predisposed to playing video games had more time and incentive (as stress-relief) to spend playing.
You can't genuinely compare playerbase population levels during a forced at-home lock-down to the levels during "normal" times.

what? game is pretty dead compared to what it used to be. long queues for dungeons as a tank, not a lot going on in group finder. which really sucks because im back to the game and enjoying it again. but game is pretty dead, look at steam charts. but summer is almost over, i know i didnt play much at all during june and july, moreso in august because it was too hot outside.

The population seems to be the same as it's ever been in the zones I hang out in a lot. The daily dungeon queue also pops quickly for me, even in off-peak hours.

Having said that, because zones are instanced, it's difficult to get a sense of how healthy the population is.

Sadly, as much as I am not really a 'OMG game dying!' person, I very much HAVE noticed a decline in players and finding players to do dungeons and stuff with, and that's on PC/NA. I'm not saying the game is dying tomorrow or anything, but to pretend the population hasn't dropped semi-recently isn't entirely true for everyone at least.
      Hoping for more playable races

I mean I don’t think people are “hoping” for this games failure. People comment negatively because they think the game can improve and they don’t feel like it does.

As someone who only does PvE trifectas, since the last update where Subclassing hit, I have only logged in a handful of times since because I don’t like what it did to the PvE meta. I understand not everyone has this opinion.

Despite some negative posting, I do not wish to see ESO close down. But I do wish to hear some honest acknowledgement from the devs beyond the 'This is the year of performance' for five years in a row about the general state of the game.
Add to that a change up with those in charge of the worst parts of the game (i.e. performance and class balance) and maybe, just maybe, this game can come roaring back in a few years.
As for ES6, I think Microsoft will want to see a return on their investment, so I think we'll get a new Elderscrolls game eventually even if they have to outsource it to a third company.

It's disheartening to see so many people hoping for this game's failure, perhaps believing that it will hasten the arrival of The Elder Scrolls VI, as if that would resolve all concerns.I personally believe that development for The Elder Scrolls VI may not have progressed significantly yet, possibly with little to no code written so far.

I understand not everyone has this opinion.

since 2024 gold road chapter, player is alway lost, because we have a 120+page about game lag/dc/broken post there ,and game still bad now
it why in log ,U46 in any run lost most player, there all is from game rank and log in any pc server
      use popular vdsr example
3month have 25.5k toon(you can use othere toon) do vdsr in U45
      U40 have 60k player run
      U42gold road only 30k
      U46 total remain 9k
I think the subclass was just a other mistack

When you look at the long term - all that has really happened is that the game has reverted to pre-COVID levels of participation. For a game thats over 10yrs old - I think thats doing pretty well.
