You might want to switch Detonating Siphon to your front bar in place of either Bound Armaments (if you just slot BA for the max Stamina) or Barbed Trap, because I believe you currently don't benefit from the Death Knell passive on your front bar.

I thought about that, but doesnt Death Knell specify having a Grave Lord skill active, not just slotted? In the case of active, just summoning Skeletal Mage gives me the Death Knell passive benefit right?

I'm not near my PC at the moment so I can't check it in the game, but according to the Patch Notes it requires having an ability slotted ("Death Knell: This passive now increases your Critical Chance by 10/20% against targets under 33% Health if you have a Grave Lord ability slotted"). If I remember correctly the other passive, Dismember, works while you have an ability active.

Right now I'm mostly working on mag sorc with Daedric Summoning and Storm calling and just swapping out dark magic (because the skill line is really weak)

The simplest change was Aedric Spear. Great passives, slot the ult and get that crit damage. A solid 10% dps increase with minimal impact on the actual class.

    This week i'm looking at:

Assassination (stupidly OP with flanking, good without)
    Grave-Lord
    Herald of the tome

On other classes and builds i'm making bolder changes, but mag sorc is my main.

Im jealous im on console waiting for the update reading all your combinations lol.

I know what ima do though

    1. Harold of the Tome, Dawns Wrath, Assassination
    2. Aedric Spear, Grave Lord, Restoring Light
    3. Assassination, Shadow (y’all can give me a cool idea to replace this skill line with), Harold of the Tome

I am slowly going through all the chars. I am very basic and I love cliche's (knight with longsword, elemental wizard with pointy hat) but I think this one is fairly unique:

    Breton Forest Spirit

Class: Warden with a hint of Nightblade (Animal Companions/Green Balance/Shadow)

    The Essentials:

Race: Bosmer (hear me out, you need a small size and pointy ears, bosmer are the closest to fey creatures we can get)

Alliance: Daggerfall Covenant exclusive. No self-respecting Breton forest spirit would hang out in Vvardenfell, Skyrim, or worst of all Summerset, land of the elven oppressor. Forest spirits have long lives, and longer memories.

Skin: Barkroot Blessing is obviously the meta, but there are several other viable options, such as both nereid variants and the shaman skin from that minotaur dungeon. The BIS for eyes tends to gravitate towards light unearthly blue, but it is potentially a flex spot. Note that you can layer most suboptimal skins with swirly tattoos, to get a more viable setup.

Weapons: Bow/Bow of course, for the archers protecting the ancient treeline are the most likely ones to be seen.

Weapon enchants: Green poison enchants work best, perhaps with a thankfully neutral coloured weapon damage on the backbar.

Food: Berries I guess, but anything that falls from the login calendar works.

Outfit: Rags at best. No human clothes. If you got the bark, you gotta show it.

    Skills and explanation:

Bird of Prey: Gives you some tiny damage buff people tend to value, but more importantly it gives you translucent green WINGS whenever you want.
Fetcherfly Swarm: A nice dot, and every build likes dots, just like every forest eventually has bees.
Shadowy Disguise: The very reason they are mentioned in lore or seen in game only rarely. Can't write what you can't see.
Aspect of Terror (likely replaced by Dark Shade when I get there): A forest spirit is usually benevolent, but can also be terrifying.
Snipe: That's what you use when you are an archer, and forest spirit bows work much the same.

Budding seeds: To heal yourself, but also others. It is often said that forest spirits leave flowers where they walk.
Green Lotus: Some whisper that forest spirits spring from life giving flowers, this one is no different. It also gives you another essential buff, though I think they tend to be more prophetic than savage.
Trample (Indrik): Every forest themed boss does this, it is all the rage in High Rock and Gonfalon.
Arrow Barrage: Who shot all those arrows? Where did they come from? As a bonus, everyone likes aoe dots.
Venom arrow: The most beautiful flower is often the most poisonous. Brutal, but I think it could be sorcery too.

Bear Guardian: "All fangs and claws it was, wrought from nightmare and ill omen alike. Old words spoke through ancient sigils on its coat, its eyes ablaze with bale wyrdfire."

    Armor Sets:

Faun's Lark Cladding: The Heart of the Forest, it allows you to charm unsuspecting travellers and run really fast - it outruns most lorewriters, hence the Forest Spirit's very sporadical appearance.
Kargaeda: Summon the area power of wind whenever you do a heavy attack. A spectacular magical feat for most humans, but just another turdas for a Forest Spirit.
Unfathomable Darkness: Summons ravens, mysterious and portentous birds of omen. Of course you need it.
Some Other Placeholder Set: Likely pilfered from a campsite when the adventurers were bathing in the spring. Forest Spirits are known for their capricious nature, and this one seems no different.

Can it do veteran dungeons? Absolutely, and if you generally know what you're doing, it can contribute adequate damage.
It won't do a million dps, but it has fitting buffs and utilty, nice synergies, and can definitely hold its own.

Though if you take a forest spirit into a cave, you might wish to swap out a skill or two, like stealth. And bears.
After all, most people run when they see bears, usually a sensible choice. Besides, you would have to stop every few crates, whenever it smells honey, and angry bears in a confined space are not good.

    - Ardent Flame
    Chains of Devastation.
    - Grave Lord.
    Ricochet Skull.
unsure which other skills would fit, but it could be fun.

This is what I need to see!

I won't be able to try it in-game until Wednesday, but i made a Ghost Rider inspired build with ESO Hub's build editor ^_^

it's a Necromancer build that swaps Living Death with Ardent Flame.

    Ardent Flame
    - Engulfing Flames (flame breath)
    - Chains of Devastation
    Grave Lord
    - Ricochet Skull (flame skull)
    Bone Tyrant
    - Scythe
    - Bone Goliath

    Assault
    - Trample.
I'd probably use Burst Soul with healing scripts if i need healing, instead of Trample.

i mainly use Oakensoul for damage builds so unsure what I'd add for a 2 bar version.

Something I'm going to try... now that we have subclassing, I might, maybe, just be able to make a 'no-magic' character using primarily 2-handed skills.

    My plan currently is

Sorcerer with Dark Magic and Storm Calling, + Assasination from Nightblade

The reasoning: All 3 of these have some useful passives that do not require actually using the skills from the skill line. Stuff that should be in effect regardless; such as -

Power Stone (-15% ultimate cost), Expert Summoner (+5% Magicka and Stamina), Capacitor (+All Recovery), Energized (+Physical damage), Amplitude (+damage based on enemy health), Master Assassin (+Critical for flanked enemies), Executioner (+Magicka/Stamina on kill) and Hemhorrage (+Crit Damage)

Combined with Oakensoul Ring (so I don't have to deal with back bar and have all necessary buffs without having to use magicka abilities to get them)

I feel like this could, theoretically, finally let me make a fighter/barbarian type character I've always wanted.

I just need to wait for my character deletion count to increment because I made a goof when making this character.

Not wanting to be pedantic, but Dark Magic doesn't have passives called Power Stone or Expert Summoner. These are from the Daedric Summoning skill line tree. ☝️

Btw, Razor Caltrops and Smash /w physical damage focus and breach affix would greatly increase the combat effectiveness of this character, for you would gain major and minor Breach as a debuff.

With Relentless Focus and Incap Strike, which are must haves with stamina focused Assassination skill line, you would have two ability slots left. These should go Vigor (or another heal) and a spammable.
My question is what spammable do you wish to run?

Ah, thank you, I misremembered which skill line had what >< appreciate it!

Razor Caltrops sounds like a great add, and Smash is a given! Relentless Focus and Incap are no go though - like, they're objectively good picks, they just don't work for the nonsense I'm trying to do hehe, they both feel too magick-y.

So my bar will probably look like: Critical Rush, Razor Caltrops, Sundering Smash, Carve and Vigor, with Berserker Strike on the Ultimate. I may adjust things as I go though, and will probably have to fudge some stuff while leveling just to have abilities to use (alas)

so far i have an oakensoul solo crit/debuff build focused on puncturing sweeps which hits pretty hard without much of a rotation.

Aedric spear/Assassination/ Herald of the tome.

and a potent healer/shielder build. Still working on this one.

restoring light, green balance and the arcanist healing line.

I get the feeling, (cause I just felt this way about myself) that we're gonna develop a little community service where players less inclined to research and test will just go to the Combat Mechanics sub and ask "Here's my current character build and this is how I like to play them, suggest a Subclass for me".

I may be creative, but I'm not "smart creative", I can see myself asking those more knowledgeable to hold my hand.

I roleplay one of my Dark Elf characters as a Telvanni wizard. While I think the classic Sorcerer goes well with the lore (storm magic from Storm Calling gives this "pure" magical energy feeling), I also always wanted to try a fire mage. And obviously fire always goes well with Dark Elves.

So I went with Sorcerer as the main class and replaced Storm Calling with Ardent Flame skill line.

I do only solo PvE stuff and I'm lazy and like to do stuff in the simplest way possible so it's a simple one bar build:

    1. Flame (Destructive) Reach (Destruction Staff, I use the inferno one for fire magic) - as a filler.
Sometimes I replace it with Crushing Shock (also Destro Staff) when I need a little change.
    2. Burning Embers (Ardent Flame) - it has a very short, almost melee range of 7 meters, but it's fun to use when the enemies get closer; also, I sometimes like to get close to the enemy, blast them with Burning Embers and quickly roll/run back to continue with attacks from the distance; also, because of the DoT effect and Burning status effect.
    3. Crystal Fragments (Dark Magic) - as an opener because it gives 10% discount on other abilities, and also there's a proc making it instant and deal more damage for half the magicka cost.
    4. Degeneration (Mages Guild skill line) - for the 20% Weapon and Spell Damage bonus and for some actual wizard/mage, pure magic feeling, not just pyromancer fire magics (it's supposed to be a Telvanni wizard after all).
    5. Flames of Oblivion (Ardent Flame) - mostly for the Spell and Weapon Critical bonus, also for the fiery visuals and the auto-launched fireballs.
R: Suppression Field (Dark Magic) - I don't know, I just like to put the enemies under this and just quickly finish them while they can't do anything. I'm a bad person (feels quite Telvanni, tho).
Bound Aegis (Daedric Summoning) on the back bar just for the passive max magicka bonus, protection bonus and 5% damage reduction bonus (not using this actively so it still counts as a one bar build).

Putting this here just for possible inspiration, maybe someone would find this useful. Most likely it's not an optimal build or something, because I don't care much about damage output, I prioritise fun and roleplay/lore.

Solo build built around the fantasy of being a Vampire:

    Class: Nightblade

    Assassination
    Siphoning
    Grave Lord

Mythic: Ring of the Pale Order

Front Bar: Bloody Soul, Bloody Burst, Bloody Smash, Carve, Skeletal Archer
Back Bar: Unnerving Boneyard, Vigor (Flex slot, I just use it for "I fell and need to heal because maxed out Vampire stage"), Siphoning Attacks, Relentless Focus, Mesmerize (Flex slot, mostly used as utility so I can talk to NPCs)

I admit I'm not totally sold on Grave Lord so far - Skeletal Archer is kinda fun, but summoning 1 temporary archer pet is... kinda eh for the whole Vampire thing for me. Still I don't have a better idea there. I do absolutely love using the Bloody script skills on the front bar. Unnerving Boneyard is also really fun for the Major Breach AOE and just adding 'spooky atmosphere'. Though I would love if I could make it red just to fit the theme colors of everything else.

This is also one of the few builds where the glowing red from Relentless Focus is actually great, just ups that Vampire factor.

This is a one-bar solo build. I cleared vet Vateshran Hollows with it, so I think its decent, but I'm very open to suggestions. It mostly focuses around lifesteal and fits well with my whole edgy vampire aesthetic.

    1. Funnel Health (Siphoning) - I use this on cooldown to heal myself and Zerith-Var. Pre-subclassing this was Spirit Mender.
    2. Blighted Blastbones (Grave Lord) - Cast on cooldown for 16k AOE damage. Super handy for questing as you can cast this on one group of mobs while you run to the next. I hate the animation and buggy AI but I don't think there's another spell in game that hits this hard.
    3. Hungry Scythe (Bone Tyrant) - Main spammable. Deals 8k damage and heals for 3800 health as fast as you can cast it on a single target, and even more if you have a group in front of you. Carmine Red style is optional but adds to the lifesteal vibes.
    4. Unnerving Boneyard (Grave Lord) - Major Breach is fantastic. The damage over time is just gravy.
    5. Siphoning Strikes (Siphoning) - I never push 5. The passive heals 1045 per second as long as I'm attacking. I used to have Blinding Flare here for the 10% damage reduction. Not sure which I like more. Honestly, I just like this icon better than the gold Flare one.
    R. Swarming Scion (Vampire) - Sometimes its cool to be a vampire. For hard content I prefer to save my ultimate for Strategic Reserve, which gives 30 health recovery for every 10 ultimate you have.

In addition to Oakensoul Ring, I run this with the Overwhelming set for permanent AOE damage and magickasteal, and either Macabre Vintage for overland stuff or Mother's Sorrow for hard stuff where I need the extra crit.

I play on PlayStation so we've not got subclassing yet sadly but here's my ideas.

    Frost Mage.
Herald of the Tome - tentacular dread, recuperative treatise
Grave Lord - unnerving boneyard, glacial colossus
Winters Embrace - ice fortress, winters revenge, northern strom

    Stam sorc +
Storm Calling - hurricane, crit surge
Grave Lord - pestilent colossus, grave lords sacrifice, detonating siphon
Aedric Spear - blue biting jabs

    Edit: changed some things.

Okay now that subclassing has launched on console I finally got to test out my ideas. I'm not very good at theorycrafting if you can tell lol

The Frost mage is working fairly well. I just need to find some more Frost themed sets to make it really shine. I'm thinking Iceheart, frostbite, and maybe icy conjurer? There's also ice furnace but I'd prefer to stick to pure frost.

The Storm Sorc on the other hand, I find Grave Lord a bit too clunky for my liking. Aedric spear works well at least, the passives are nice and jabs is fun. At the moment I'm using Storm Calling, Daedric Summoning, Aedric Spear. I'm thinking of maybe swapping out daedric summoning for dawns wrath, since power of the light seems like it could be interesting. But I'm not sure if it'd add more than daedric summoning does.

Only a Templar base class could use Dawn's Wrath and Aedric Spear together, sadly. You could give Assassination instead of Daedric Summoning a try though, and use that Ultimate, either morph of Grim Focus and Killer's Blade - it would definitely increase your DPS.

My pet-sorc now has the bone goliath ultimate, and the scite to heal while doing damage.

To gain major sorcery, I no longer use critical surge, but molten armaments from the dragon-kight, that also grants empower.
So I no longer need the elegant set to gain empower, and can use another pet set (defilers).

I have 36 characters (2 accounts), and slightly optimized 3 so far, 3 that I rarely played because they were lacking the one or other option.

Main benefit for me is molten armaments, but I also like necro/nightblade/dragonknight mixes.

So overall subclassing is not the big gamechanger for me, as my main characters remain untouched, but allows to tune the weaker ones to my needs. This ctually brought me back now for some days to the game, after having left some years ago in favour for F76.

Oh, and concerning empower: I am aware I could get it via Oakensoul, but I strongly dislike antiquities, so this is a no-go for me.

This is just theory crafting right now, but I'm working on a sorcerer build based on the Three Queens of Solstice.

    Azura - Daedric Summoning (Twilight)
Nocturnal - Shadow (twisting path, summon shade)
Meridia - Dawn's Wrath (radiant glory, backlash)

It's absolutely not the highest DPS build, but it's got some flavor and fits with how my sorcerer has pledged herself to and been betrayed by all three at various times through ESO.

Two builds I have been massively enjoying lately:

    Shadow Warden: Warden + Nightblade:

Stamina based, has great burst execute dmg while still keeping most of the Warden identity at the center of the build. Favorite so far post patch. Really consistent damage and good survivability with Pale Order. Plays fast and fluid with most of the animations flowing together well.

    h26rrdl133gy.png

Zero Beam Arcanist: Arcanist + Sorc

Really enjoying this one, finally have an arcanist build I like. Stamina based but aggressive use of Magicka abilities to. Using the new direct damage boosting crafted set together with AOE/Direct dmg focused cp pts. Have the class mastery script for dagger throw to build up crux for burst damage tentacle attacks, has multi attack for AOE dmg, and the Force passive script as well. Able to swap out the Fighters Guild crit passive skill for more defensive crux spending abilities and/or the Sorc teleport or Assault skill line heal ability which has been awesome for harder content. Generally hitting 70k-80k dps on the dummy and have great survivability to do solo dungeons and IA with Pale Order. All without the arcanist beam. Goal is to experiment with other Sorc skill lines as the 1 sorc tree like Dark Magic next.

Next planned little project is to test out a Sorc + Necro zero pet build.

I am having an incredible amount of fun exploring the new subclassing system. My sincere thanks to ZOS for making this possible!

At the moment, I’m subclassing Necromancer, with:

    Base Class: Arcanist
    Subclass: Grave Lord

But I’m absolutely planning to experiment with other combinations as well, the possibilities feel endless!

P.S. The introduction of subclassing is actually the main reason I returned to ESO after a break. It truly reignited my excitement for the game!

Here again to add my voice in thanking for subclassing. I'm definitely enjoying the game more now, and Xbox EU server is more populated than ever!

It's not subclassing but since players are now talking about being able to create an Elementalist I wanted to remember that it was already possible, kinda, thanks to the recently free scribing!
You could slot Shock contingency with vulnerability, Frost soul burst with breach, and Fire elemental explosion with brittle, use banner bearer with Magical script and slot a heal.
It wouldn't be atomically strong but it could work nicely for overland questing, I sometimes roleplay this way.

I roleplay my main as a knight from House Indoril.
The primary class is Dragonknight and I replaced Ardent Flame with Aedric Spear.
Aedric Spear is supposed to invoke the close ties between House Indoril and the Temple and also can be seen as a blessing from Vivec, resembling his infamous Muatra spear. I use this skill line mostly for the Puncturing Strikes, maybe I'll add Focused Charge (replacing Shield Charge from One Hand and Shield skill line, that I use now). The passives are also pretty nice.
I kept Draconic Power and Earthen Heart skill lines for their fiery/magma themes, that are in turn supposed to invoke Dark Elves' connection to the volcanic nature of their homeland, Morrowind. I use these skill line mostly for utilities, of course.
I 'updated' my main build a bit. The primary class is Dragonknight. I kept Earthen Heart from the primary class and subclassed Aedric Spear from Templar (replacing Ardent Flame) and Shadow from Nightblade (replacing Draconic Power).

I'm rather lazy so it's a rather simple one-bar build:

    1. Biting Jabs (Aedric Spear) - for the Major Brutality and Major Sorcery (increased Weapon and Spell Damage) buff.
    2. Pierce Armor (One Hand and a Shield) - for the Major and Minor Breach (reduced enemy's physical and spell resistance) and for the taunt.
    3. Heroic Slash (One Hand and a Shield) - for the Ultimate generation boost.
    4. Toppling Charge (Aedric Spear) - stunning the enemy and providing Major Protection buff.
    5. Mirage (Shadow) - for the Minor resolve buff and the additional Major resolve buff from the Shadow Barrier passive.
R: Magma Shell (Earthen Heart) - quick Health, Magicka and Stamina restore, flame damage, damage shield and of course fiery visuals.
Additionaly, Shadow Cloak (Shadow) on the back bar for the passive Major Prophecy and Savagery (increased Spell and Weapon Critical rating), not using the skill actively and didn't morph it (in order to save two skill point for other stuff).

I tried for each skill line choice, additionally to of course being super useful in the game, to somehow correspond to the lore behind my character. As I wrote earlier, I roleplay him as a knight from House Indoril.

Aedric Spear invokes the close ties between House Indoril and the Tribunal Temple, the spear itself being a reference to Vivec's holy spear. I additionally use the Biting Jabs skill with the Ice Blue skill style active. While in the game Vivec is seen with the golden Aedric-like aura, I decided the blue colour gives this skill a more Daedric/Dark Elven vibe.

Earthen Heart is supposed to invoke the Dark Elves' connection to the fiery, volcanic nature of their homeland, Morrowind. In this context I see the Eternal Mountain and Mountain's Blessing passives as references to the Red Mountain, which is kinda central to Dark Elven culture and important in the Tribunal theology.

Shadow is supposed to invoke the more sinister aspects of Dark Elven culture, its Mephalian elements and traditions, as well as Vivec's duality as the Warrior-Poet (connecting the warrior and the rogue fantasy/rpg archetypes), with Mephala seen as Vivec's Anticipation in the Tribunal theology. Also, I use it for the dark red and black esthetics that can be generally seen in my character's look.

Ironically, when I was just beginning my adventure with ESO and tried to choose the class for my main, I was really torn between Dragonknight, Templar and Nightblade. I've seen all as rather matching the Dark Elven lore, and tried to play all three with a classic melee focused sword n' board knight build. Now, thanks to sublcassing, I don't need to make that choice which I find pretty awesome :D

My base class is a Necromancer, with a sub-class of Arcanist.

I use a 2H Lucent Sentinel Great sword and my gear is an Oakensoul, Glacial Guardian heavy armor, Kra'gh heavy helm, and Mora's Whispers on my shoulders.

I kept two lines in my Necro class, "Grave Lord" and "Living Death", while adding "Herald of the Tome" from the Arcanist line. In doing that; I can either Tank or be a Medic. (back-up for the healers)

In Tank Mode, I use: Stampede
    Venomous Smash
    Carve
    Inner Beast
Ruine of Displacement or Unnerving Bone Yard
Tide King Gaze or Pestilent Colossus

In Medic Mode, I use: Carve
    Venomous Smash
    Vigor
    Braided Tether
    Healing Contingency (Mage Guild)
    Renewing Animation

If I am feeling lazy, I can just be a great DPS by taking out the Taunt spells and just have fun and wreak havoc.

You mean you sometimes use one mythic, Oakensoul, and sometimes use the other mythic Mora’s Whispers instead?
