Why not add this to the game as a grimoire, would be a really fun PvP trap spell, and fun in casual PvE.

I think it'd be cool! Which skill line would this Grimoire go to? Maybe one of the Class skill lines?

That's a good question! I think it would be good in Soul Magic since lore-wise that type of magic can be unstable (e.g. Tanlorin's unstable Soul Magic), and the Soul Magic passives aren't too overloaded since this ability looks like it would have a lot of going on. Alternatively, Destruction Staff skill line would be a good fit too.

Probably want to avoid grimoire's in Class skill line until subclassing is balanced out and they have a solid/fitting concept for the skill line (e.g. maybe a Grimoire Summon Atronach, where the flame focus script would summon a flame atronach, that is in the Daedric Summoning Sorcerer skill line).

But if we did have to choose a class skill line, I think it would be most fitting for the Dark Magic Sorcerer skill line or the Shadow Nightblade skill line.

    What do you think?

Dark Magic sounds like the most thematically appropriate skill line, especially considering the visuals. It would also proc the Exploitation passive, giving the group Minor Prophecy (spell critical). Then, if this ability has a cost, it would also proc the Blood Magic passive, healing you based off your Max Health.

Overall, there are a lot of useful Class Passives that require using Active Abilities located in that skill line. Scribing Grimoires for those Class skill lines would be very useful, especially if the ability itself could be scribed to do something that your build with that skill line needs.

I certainty wouldn't complain if it was for the Dark Magic skill line, especially since subclassing would allow all classes the ability to use it. And I agree, it's pretty fitting for the skill line, though the visuals might need to be adjusted a bit to be more matching of the Dark Magic abilities, since it looks like lightning arcing off the orbs.

Or maybe they could make class locked grimoires, then the orb with arcing lightning would be like a combination of both Dark Magic and Storm Calling themes. That could be a way to satisfy the class identity purists that are upset over subclassing.

The problem with making Class Grimoires locked to a particular Class is that it would make no sense to make them in the first place. ZOS could spend an update making one for each Class, making 7 in total, but then any individual character could only ever use 1. Subclassing at least makes Class Grimoires make sense, because no character would be permanently locked out of using skills, and they could use up to 3 of those Class Grimoires at a time, rather than just 1.

Seems like it would be better for a 3rd morph of "Orb" to go out a ways and stop.
