This is Multiclassing, Not Subclassing.

Subclassing has always been understood to be the specialization of a specific theme under a main class; to use the D&D example, a "Wild magic" sorcerer, is a pure sorcerer who has some additional class features that align with a wild magic theme, it is NOT a Sorcerer with Action Surge (the class ability of Fighter). Now Subclasses can involve things that are similar to the things another class offers, but it isn't ripping their abilities directly. Proper subclassing in ESO could involve a 4th skill line "slot" for each class that would allow you to choose between skill line options that double down on your core class themes. That isn't what we got, what we got is the ability to steal skill lines from another class, to gain that other class's features exactly. That has always been understood as multiclassing.

I'm sure ZOS won't care enough to fix this, but I personally find it kind of annoying. Hopefully it isn't too late.

You are right. Personally, I think getting actual subclasses would be great. Unlike multiclassing which finally killed build diversity completely after it had already suffered from hybridization.

But it’s far too late for us to hope zos will back down, because it’s zos and not some other devs, unfortunately.
Besides, subclassing would require actual resources to create new skills and such. But with multiclassing they basically made a feature out of nothing by juat reusing what they already had available. Between that and higher prices It looks like they are not planning to stick with eso for much longer and attempt to squeeze all the money they can from the player base before then.

I think it's a little much to think they're going to change the name

Classic “ZoS Double Down™️” moment here, unfortunately I’m getting used to them by now.

It would be fun to have the "LeeLoo Dallas, Multiclass" joke for awhile though...still I think we're stuck with Subclassing

ZOS changed the name of the Endless Archive after it was released to Infinite Archive, I don't think it's too late to correct the name here at all.

I think we should call it "The Class Struggle" and blame the burgeoise.

If we're making jokes about Communism, we'd be better off calling this farce ZoS'es "Great leap forwards".

On the bright side, you can opt out of this one if you want to.

I for one am extremely excited about this change and can't wait to get my hands on it.

Agree. If you want it to be called subclassing, then limit it to 1 skill tree swap and keep the core class fantasy 2/3.

Multiclassing sounds cooler too. It sounds like more of something instead of less.

Since multi means more than one, multiclass would mean more than one class and our skill bar will be able to have skills from up to 3 classes. 3 is more than 1 so, I'm a vote for multiclass.

On the other hand, if sub indicates submarine sandwich, I'm for that. :p

I've been thinking the same thing. Regardless of the system itself and its positives and negatives, the name is a confounding choice. I foresee many extremely confused new players when they encounter multiclassing that everyone is calling subclassing.
