Players can utilize Subclassing like so, with each unique letter representing a unique Class:
- [AAA]
- [AAB]
- [ABC]
...where option 1 does not utilize Subclassing, option 2 replaces only one skill line, and option 3 replaces both eligible skill lines.
If we take a look at Tanlorin's skill lines compared to Bastian's skill lines, we can see that Tanlorin is essentially Subclassing with option 2:

In other words, Tanlorin replaces the Ardent Warrior skill line (the Companion Dragonknight Damage Dealer skill line) for Empathic Fighter, a Damage Dealer skill line inspired by the player's Soul Magic skill line. Tanlorin and Bastian are still both Dragonknights as they share both the Draconic Armor and Radiating Heart skill lines. By the rules of Subclassing, Tanlorin would
not be considered a Soul Magic Class, as Tanlorin has two skill lines of a Class other than Soul Magic.
Now, while Soul Magic isn't a Class for players, Tanlorin is already showing the potential of Subclassing for Companion skill lines. We could get a future Companion who uses
Winter's Bite (Companion Warden Tanking skill line),
Lightning Caller (Companion Sorcerer Damage Dealer skill line), and
Radiating Heart (Companion Dragonknight Healing skill line) to make a Companion Elementalist. Here's what that would look like, using the skills from Sharp-as-Night, Ember, and Bastian Hallix as an example:

Naturally, just like with Tanlorin reusing Draconic Armor and Radiating Heart, we can expect different "morphs" of some abilities, some entirely different abilities originating from the player version of that Class, and some shared abilities between Companions. So, there will always be different combinations of skills between Companions.
So, with all of that out of the way, how would you like to see the 9th Companion utilize Subclassing? Note that players won't be able to change the skill lines of their Companions; this is solely about what unique combinations of skill lines we'd like to see baked into future Companions.
