a lot of prices crashed because zos was cracking down hard on gold sellers, so huge amounts of gold was removed from the economy

other factors for specific items include increased drop rates (in general), or increased drops during events

player population still seems about the same in most hubs to me

ive personally been greatly enjoying the decreased prices, ive been spending more on gear/motifs/furnishing plans i was missing, as well as spending like 29 million gold in the past month to buy enough attuned stations to fill out my grandmaster tables

a year ago i wasnt even considering buying the tables because they were over 300k gold each, but at 150k (avg) each, i felt like it was worth it to catch up and finish the stations
    plays PC/NA

    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

I can tell you what happened to the economy in this game. But then, I would be starting another war, as always.

That said, I will say this—by the way, I warned that this would happen some time ago.

Selling rides, selling loot, and locking gifting all funnel money to the same players who make you a lot of gold outside the game. And that’s it! I said this would happen a long time ago… and it’s only going to get worse.

I can't go into details because I don’t want to argue with anyone—and, honestly, I don’t even know what I’m saying. The economy is as perfect as always.

Selling rides and selling loot only moves gold from one player to another. It doesn't create more or less gold in the game. Sure some players that sell rides could be sitting on huge piles of gold meaning it has been effectively taken out of the market. Thing is if there wasn't a service selling rides and gear those people paying for the services would be sitting on that gold anyway.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

There are still plenty of gold sellers, even blatantly doing so on eBay. I don't know how they get away with it, but they do.

I think the main reason the economy crashed is because the population crashed. So there is much more supply than there is demand.

If the game is in a good state when/if it goes ftp, I can see the population picking up.

If they have something like a quarterly battle pass, which is a modern concept that most gamers are familiar with, and that holds their hand and tells them what to do, then I could see ESO making it another 5+ years.

OTH, if ZOS is releasing a new MMO they don't want to cannibalize potential sales for that game.. so they may do nothing significant besides pumping all kinds of junk into the cash shop.

The whole Gold Sellers going away argument is flawed. Gold sellers don't generate gold. They amass the gold generated by the playerbase, then sell that back to the playerbase.

The reason there's less gold floating around, is because more players are trying to earn gold by selling their booty and less players are actually participating in activities that generate gold. It ebbs and flows with the tide.

The whole "ESO Economy" is a myth anyway.

The reality is, guilds are simply bidding too much on their traders to maintain their hold on them. When less gold is in circulation, then the bids to hold the traders should drop to compensate for it. But greed won't allow them to even consider that idea. But no matter how you cut it, players homes aren't going dark because they couldn't pay the utilities bill, their alts aren't starving because they can't afford food, and nobody's sleeping homeless on the street because they can't afford a room at the inn.

Guilds are simply uncomfortable knowing that other guilds are nipping at their heels. But if that's the case, then somebody's making enough money to outbid them.
