Disguises mixed with Costumes

I was quite pleased with the idea of having the Disguises organized in the Collections area, but I never imagined that it would be all thrown together without any care in the same folder as Costumes. It could have been a fantastic update that resulted in something somewhat just reasonable that brings more disorganization to our Collection. It's sad... It was a missed opportunity to do something flawlessly all the way through in one go. I don't think it would have been that difficult to create a new subfolder for Disguises inside the Appearance folder - that would have been the most obvious solution. Now we'll have to wait for some saint to develop another Addon to fix the Costumes folder because it's not even possible to filter the Disguises from Costumes now. Yet another unnecessary chaos despite being created with good intentions.

But they are costumes now, they're functionally identical to all the other costumes. Why would they need to be seperate?

Maybe it's just me then, but I think the Disguises don't look as good as most Costumes. Also, as there's no favourites on Costumes, it makes harder to find the Costumes I like. Furthermore, maybe it's just me again, but I can't even figure out now which Disguises I already collected and the ones I'm missing. Like I said, I like to have the Disguises in the Collection, but clearly Disguises aren't the same as Costumes, otherwise it wouldn't have been named differently until now.

The converted disguises (now costumes) were added to the same costume category because that is how they function now. And we will refer to them as costumes moving forward. Understand the thought of breaking them out into another section, but we would likely run into naming convention issues, and building out new parts of the UI for something that is the same section, just called something different. But the main point being that they function as costumes now and should be in the same section not only function, but player clarity as well.

We have a couple of costumes that are just a set of base game armour since many years back. These are on the same level as them. Actually some are better since they are without shoulderpads.

I see. Thanks for the reply. Anyway, I just noticed that we can in fact set favourites in Costumes like in Mounts. I didn't know that. So, it mostly solves my issue. But I didn't figure out yet if there's a way to track the missing Disguises, because I don't think they are listed among the "Not Collected".

You can mark costumes as favourites. In the collections menu if you right-click a costume 'add to favourites' is the bottom option. (I just turned all my addons off to double check it was available with the base-game settings, and it is.)

I also use IsJusta Favorite Collectibles to have different favourites on each character.

Whether they look as good as other costumes is purely subjective. I think most of the ones I unlocked are identical to base game armour sets, and very similar or identical to some existing costumes which use the same armour sets.

I've only spent time working with the Stros M'kai servant disguise which is a nice, simple blue blouse over gray pants. For dying, the three slots are 1 blouse, pants, boots all one color, 2 belt and boot laces, 3 does nothing. Very little flexibility unless you want monochrome blouse and pants. The boots use the same dye as the blouse and pants but seems to take the color differently providing some contrast at least.

Ah I see. I was hoping they'd be dye-able with multiple channels. Maybe some of the other disguises might dye better? I'll take a look next time I'm on.

I mean, most were disguises designed for the player to blend in as a peasant/bandit/cult member, so they were mostly very simple designs with exposed stitching, and all in low res since they were part of the early quests. Of course, people may still like or even prefer them, and in that I agree it will be subjective.

I did take the opportunity to favourite all my preferred costumes because organising the costume collection became necessary after this update.

@AlienatedGoat Yes, but the dye channels are weird https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/674412/the-dye-channels-on-some-of-the-disguise-costumes-are-weird

I printed off a list of the converted disguises from the patch notes, and then checked each one in my costume list. It would’ve made it easier if I had re-sorted the list alphabetically by disguise, but I didn’t think of that in time. And keep in mind that most of the names have changed from the word disguise to armor, garb, etc.. I do believe the northwind disguise kept the word disguise in its name.

    Thanks for sharing!

So the biggest name changes are...

Imperial Disguise --> Satakalaam Imperial Armor

Pirate Disguise --> Blackheart Pirate Armor

Scarlet Judge's Regalia --Regalia of the Scarlet Judge

The rest still start the same (and thus should be in roughly the same location on our list in alphabetical order), but the word disguise at the end has been replaced with other terms that are more fitting, e.g., armor or robes.

I have about 23 Disguises in one character's inventory. Somehow 2 disguises were added automatically to the list and converted to a costume. But I'm not understanding how to add the others. I tried equipping all, but it doesn't seem to work.

    *UPDATE*

Somehow all the disguises were converted only when I logged in with my main character, and not with the character where I had the disguises stored. Weird! But it's solved.

The costumes come from the achievements for completing the quests, not from having the disguises in your inventory, so it will have unlocked when you switched to the character who completed the quests.

I've never kept any of the disguises and I got a bunch of them unlocked when I logged into each of my characters, because they'd completed the quests.

Agreed. Need a filter for Quests, Events, Store etc to better find what you need when you need it.

For example during quests you need to equip certain costumes/disguises so you need to be able find it... I know I have hundreds of costumes so it's very hard to find what I need.

    Addon to the rescue 😁
