How Long Should it Take to Kill an Overland Bear?

I like that in Diablo 3/4 I can play on the highest Torment setting when I want a challenge or find a meta build I like, but I also like that I can play all the exact same game content on lower difficulty settings when trying out more thematic builds or less powerful classes. I wouldn't mind seeing that in ESO. But I don't want to see it made so difficult that everything becomes a tedious chore, like struggling through Craglorn. When I think back to my first year or two in the game before I learned how to build a better character, I think a flat overall difficulty spike is gonna be miserable for casual players if they don't learn to play meta.

I don't think difficult = TTK, more like it should be possible to die without the player actively adding risk themselves thorough self-imposed limits.

Our baseline is really low here for a difficult mode:

-I shouldn't be able to win by closing my eyes and pressing random buttons
-I should not survive if I go AFK in combat
-An AFK pet sorc should not win an encounter.
-I should die sometimes if I completely ignore mechanics.

Like, basic stuff that makes a game a game and not an interactive movie.

I also think a lot of the people who want more difficulty do not consider the other side of the coin. Lots of current game content like Infinite Archive beyond the first Tho'at fight is completely inaccessible to casual players if they do not have a friend to carry them through it. Most of my friends in rp circles almost never play most of the game's non-overland dlc content, which is a shame. So much of the game already feels inaccessible to a lot of people.

it takes a few seconds now and i want it to stay that way.

Why can't there be something in-between?

I wouldn't be happy if they made one pippers as hard as Tho'at (who for me isn't a patch on the Trial baby bosses that precede). But I would like more from overland than to kill everything in one hit. That is just beyond boring.

And I am an exceedingly casual player.

Ok so I said 10 seconds, BUT IT COMES WITH THIS: FOR. A. NON-CP. PLAYER!!!

For CP, a single bear should still be 5 seconds or less.

What WOULD be cool though is some sort of growing difficulty scale the more bears you have. Like- instead of it just being more hp or they ALL take the same damage, maybe damage gets eaten up and you have to do THAT MUCH MORE. I mean for real, even an incredible hero should have a VERY hard time with like 15+ bears. I mean picture that: 15 bears vs 1 hero. You better be pretty dang good or I'm sorry, the bears WILL win.

Its a bear. Bears should not die from 2 skills.

Do people really want every random mob to be more difficult?

I get that some people want a more impactful feeling of accomplishment, from the responses here. Wouldn't that just be quest bosses though?

I'm pretty casual and even I want things to be more difficult. I miss the days when the game had Zone Levels and you needed to progress in order to defeat a specific Zone's content.

Like... so, context, I do my seven crafting writ dailies on 22 characters daily, 20 NA & 2 EU. I speed run it with addons and consumables already prepared, so it takes me about 45-50 minutes, depending on loading screen time. This gives me a LOT of surveys. Whenever I'm going through those, I often run across random players engaged with overland mobs that are in the way. They are fighting like one cat, in an extended fight, that is lasting more than a minute if I watch. It might actually win the fight and kill them. Then I breeze through, one or two shotting it, moving on to my survey. Easy for me, hard for them. I see this a lot, just doing my surveys. Apart from me enjoying my relaxing overland content, I worry about what a broad difficulty spike will do for all these players. Casual is maybe the wrong word for them, I dunno. It's not all newbies.
I just don't understand why people feel the need to make the base game content harder for casual players. Lots of people enjoy the game as it is. It's relaxing. Harder pve content is already there if people want it, in all the veteran content. I just want to relax when playing a damned game, for the limited time I have outside work. Doing dailies in overland zones is relaxing. For people who want something harder, we can already go into vet solo Infinite Archive, Vateshran, Maelstrom, etc.
To get your answer just visit some of the ESO Discords...

...Gatekeeping is a thing in ESO...casuals aren't deemed worthy, and the current thinking is if the game is harder Casuals will go away...

    Greetings all,

As this thread has become more about overland content, we have decided to close it as we have a pinned, more active discussion, which can be found here.

    Thank you for your understanding,
