Hey!

It's been a few months since Update 44 has dropped, and I have seen and heard nothing about any dropping since. I wanted to ask if anyone has gotten or seen a drop since the update, or if there's a possible bug on the drop rate.

I only know about PCNA, so feel free to chime in if you have seen one, obtained one, or know of someone dropping one since the latest update, or if you also haven't heard of a single one floating around at all. Ty!
@Djennku, PCNA.

Hi. Never saw this item in bg or TTC since U44 on PC EU. Will keep farming.

The materials are too rare, and the recipe even more so. I picked up the molten torte recipe, and they aren't really worth crafting either.

Same here. PC EU. The last drop and sale I know of happened before U44, where the patch notes promised an increased drop rate. I’m even starting to suspect that they did increase the drop rate, but only for the old BGs that no longer exist, and completely forgot to add it for the new ones.

Or maybe, somehow, people play the new BGs so much less than the old ones that the increased drop rate didn’t make any difference. Though the latter seems unlikely to me—after all, the new BGs are faster, and it’s hard to imagine that when U44 launched, a ton of people didn’t rush to try them out.

@ZOS_Kevin are you able to double-check that there isn't a bug with the Lost Thesis dropping? Ty!

The drop rate for the thesis was astronomically rare even before the BG rework, and an "improved" drop rate if something that doesn't really drop to begin with is still gonna be ridiculously rare.

I know people who've done battlegrounds more or less daily since the recipe came out and never seen it, (we're talking in the thousands of battleground matches). My only beef with this recipe is that it seems to be a hidden mechanic where the material needed to craft it (Mourning dew) essentially can't drop from Cyrodiil nodes unless the character has learnt the recipe. I know someone who knows the recipe, and when we do the exact same farm route in Cyrodiil he gets 5-10 mourning dew/hour and we get 0 every time. Thankfully you can get Mourning Dew (for reselling purposes) from IA and IC now, but it makes no sense to me to "gatekeep" the crafting materials from Cyrodiil nodes this way.

I had Dew drop from regular node in Cyro and I don't know recipe. There probably was another time when I didn't notice, because I had extra in inventory and no idea when or where it came from.

the materials actually arent that rare anymore

since they can drop from provisioning satchels in both the IC imperial fragment vendor and archive vendors, the price on mourning dew has significantly tanked

2 years ago they were going for approx 1.5-2 mil a piece, now they are down to like under 300k each (and still dropping i think)

the chefs thesis itself to actually make the recipe is still extremely rare though

I know I sold 50 of them when my whitestrakes keys were converted to fragments. But still 300k is expensive for what you get.

in terms of sustainability yeah the colovian one is still the easiest to bulk produce

compared to before though its still significantly cheaper to craft if your buying the mat with gold

300k per 4 tortes (75k per torte) vs 2 mil for 4 tortes (500k per torte) is still around an 80% cost reduction to make them using gold

Chef Arquitius's Lost Thesis has an absurdly low drop rate. Anytime I have seen it listed in traders or offered in zone chat, people were asking 300 million gold or more. ESO has made almost everything else much, much more common, which has caused incredible deflationary pressure in the markets, which has been good for most players. One outlier is this darn item. It's ridiculous. It's drop rate is orders of magnitude worse than anything else in the game.

I'd expected that with the new BG modes being introduced we'd see more drops since a lot of players are running them, but it seems this hasn't been the case. I wonder if the rate is kept low so that people buy the scrolls from the store--ZOS has definitely made it hard to find and use these, especially with the tiered condition to their crafting, since for each you need all the materials necessary for the previous tier.

I have never seen it listed in guild traders but I figured people didn’t want to pay the listing fee. However, I don’t think I have seen it in zone chat either. I was hoping to pick one up since I have the other two recipes but 100 million gold would be too rich for my taste, might be cheaper on PS though.

on PC in the past ive seen it being listed not for just 100 million gold, but for several hundred million gold

i think i did see one listing on TTC once that was for basically 1 billion gold (999,999,999), not sure if that was a serious listing or just to be ridiculous because the price of this has gone for upwards of 500 mil

im not sure how much a drop rate change for it would affect the price if its still exceptionally rare

Lol, even more so. I have a good stash of gold for a console player but it’s still a fraction of that amount. The 14 day listing times and low drop rates mean my earning ability is now greatly reduced.

This particular item's low drop rate feels absurd to me because they have adjusted the availability of practically every other tradeable item to bring down prices. Ok, if that is designer intent, then it should be done across the board, including this item. It's crazy that this outlier exists.

I think this is bugged somehow, or we as players are extremely extremely unlucky. I have not seen a single drop for this entire patch despite chance of it being increased.

the chance of getting one before was like winning the lottery

i read on here how some people had done upwards 10,000 BG matches since that item released and not once did they get it

because zos is ambiguous on drop rates, and not actually saying how much it was increased, it could still be insanely rare even with a rate increase

if it was say a hypothetical drop rate of 1 in 1 million, if they say "doubled" that, it would then be 1 in 500,000 which is still absurdly rare, but they did increase the chance

without knowing exact numbers of both original drop rate and how much it was increased, its likely not bugged and still just absurdly rare

It looks like any other node except it's a book and it is very... green. If you have the passive that makes things glow, that helps a lot. This node glows too.

So far I have found one in each home territory so to speak. I've found one ne of valastrus, ne of the mountain east of Arrius and one just over the ridge north of glade. Happy hunting.

Note that this is the first level of tort improvement.

You have to do bgs to get the one mentioned in this thread. Yes, then new bgs... after you're get the first one.... hahahahahahaha...

It is but they were asking what the cyrodiil recipe looked like. It is a component of making the final recipe so semi-relevant.

To keep from going too far off topic, I've been trying on and off for the Chef's Thesis for years and haven't seen one drop ever. Nobody in my friend group has either and one of them was in a dedicated battlegrounds guild when he still played. I have pretty much every f2p style, recipe, furnishing plan, and cosmetic in the game except the White-Gold War Torte and it's definitely not from lack of trying. I'm ok with rare/priceless items but the droprate is lower than any other priceless item and most of those also had their droprate bumped up in the past so they're no longer as rare as they used to be so I always found it odd this is the last holdout on that.

I feel your pain. Getting this is not about using or making white gold war torte. It's a pose or a status symbol having it in your sticker book. It's one of the reasons I still do bgs.
