Will the stuck in combat bug be fixed in 2025?

I'm confident ZOS knows what needs to happen to fix this bug. They just don't want to do it for some reason. The fix will mean making an adjustment somewhere somehow that players might like even less than the bug. Who knows.

it would be so much better if other bugs were prioritized first and this was resolved by adjusting the rules around mounting and teleport stones.

Get rid of combat mode all together. Why can we not be allowed to use whatever we want whenever we want.

In Cyro, you can also go to Uncle Sheo's at base, and back. This will rid you of the combat bug, and all other 100++ years of burning etc, though that is only a cosmetic bug

It is fixed when you visit uncle sheo i.e travel to another instance. Why zos cant implement the same resets on a death or b when you have traveled through a wayshirne is beyond me. Yo've all been there when someone spawns at a way shrine a meteor procs on the person after death, as they respawn and kills you as you enter the through the door at low health and you sit there scratching your head about how badly things in eso are implemented in this game. I guess it just works.

Until I see a formal commitment or acknowledgement from them on the issue - I'm going to say "no".

However, given it's been such an issue, maybe we should provide a definition of the issue so ZOS is clear on what needs to be fixed. Of course, there's a peripheral conversation about revisiting what actions can be performed in combat - quick travel, using a skyshard, opening a door, mounting etc. But what does "stuck in combat" mean to you all?

For me, it's usually a mob that can't find me and I'm unable to exit combat because it's still figuring out its pathing.

It sounds like there's also a problem in cyrodiil where even after player-on-player combat ends, the player's stuck in combat. To me, those are very different issues.

In Cyro, if you fight with someone, and none of you die, you are likely to get stuck in combat, even when leaving the place, and going to base. Especially maybe if you damage someone in a ball grp. It's just strange. And it lasts forever, or maybe untill they die. I don't know. I run to uncle Sheo's.

In overland, like said, something wants a piece of you, but can't find you, or you are almost on the other side of the map, outrunning them, the combat mode is on. And you don't even know what is chasing you. Nothing to be seen.

Or if it finally catches up with you. You give them a whack, and then they just turn and run back. Combat is over. You can't attack them anymore.

Like I said before; what do we even need a combat mode for? Let us just use everything when we want.

    Probably not.

Easiest solution would to just allow players to mount in combat. Mounts have stamina, and it only takes 3-4 hits to knock someone off their mount. Can probably even have them start with half stamina so it's not easy to get away, and introduce a short winded status effect if you get knocked off so you can't just remount immediately.

Against NPCs, the problem is that they can infinitely chase you, even if they're well out of their caged area. They don't update until something happens to you, whether it's them hitting you, or you leave the area. Swimming actually counts as a new area, but only if you're outside their caged area.

In PvP, I think it's dependent on both player's combat status. Player A gets hit by Player B, Player A escapes, but Player B is in combat with Player C,D,E,F,G, or an infinitely chasing NPC, so Player A's combat status will not update until Player B's does.

Adding a max combat range to remove the status would be the ideal solution, but I'm certain something like that isn't easily doable or even possible.

I have been put in combat for no reason at all and have had combat persist after death. Mounting while in combat is of little help. Sure, I can run across the map on a mount without using stamina since it would drain, but that is not fun.

The actual issue needs to be fixed instead of putting a far too small bandaid over it.

To be fair, ZOS has known about this issue for a while now and they've been working on solutions for it, at least since the Gold Road AUA nine months ago. I hope we'll see what comes of their efforts soon.

still don't get why this is a poll though

Well, the original post describes the impact of the stuck in combat issue and offers suggestions for how to fix the issue. While it does ask "will this bug finally be fixed", it doesn't imply that it won't — the opposite is true, actually, because it cites the mention of Cyrodiil changes in the 2024 year in review letter.

All of this is to say that I don't think the poll is skewed to favor one answer over the other. While it's clear that the OP hasn't themselves voted for Yes, the purpose of the poll seems to be to get a genuine opinion from the people on the forums, rather than illustrate to ZOS how few people believe change will actually happen.

With the recent 2024 year in review letter stating Cyrodiil changes are on the way, will the infamous stuck in combat bug finally be fixed this year?

The stuck in combat bug is the bane of many PVPers in Cyrodiil as it prevents the user from summoning their mount and it also prevents the player from leaving Cyrodiil via the wayshrines at the base gates. The bug can last 30 minutes or more in extreme circumstances. The bug seems to be caused (imo) by DOTs and HOTs that do not properly clear after they have expired. Purges do not remove the problem. Neither do /stuck or /reloadui. Entering a Cyrodiil delve or traveling to one of the Imperial City campaigns seem to be the only guaranteed methods to remove the bug. Some people have had success with sacrificing themselves to an enemy player or guard; but that does not always work. The bug can even return through no action of your own even if you are in the middle of nowhere without another friend or foe in sight.

It would seem that one of the processes involved with rezoning into a delve that clears the bug should be applied to /reloadui in order to fix the problem. I'll defer to the devs on whether that would or would not work. Or maybe some other solution exists.

What do you think? Will this bug finally be fixed in 2025?

    In pvp. No
Anywhere else overland I can usually get out of it by doing a heavy attack or two into perceived direction of the "enemy combatant" but not in dungeons.

The stuck in combat is so crazy, cause there are some dungeons where you can wait for 5-10 minutes easily like for example before the final door in COA1 or Tempest Island, but there are some dungeons you can walk through doors or get out of combat within less than 30 seconds.
Imo there should be a simple check that if you aren't damaged or do damage in X time idk like 20-30 seconds just auto lose agro on everything, just like Imperial city sewers if you don't attack the boss in less than 15 seconds then it just resets.

I feel like this bug started back when they changed the not-being-hit time to get out of combat from being 30 seconds to like 6 seconds YEARS ago. It usually works in PVE, but obviously something isn’t coding right with Cyrodiil.

I sure hope it gets fixed. It can be equally as bad in PvE.

There needs to be a rule where if you have not attacked the target, and that target has not attacked you in ~30 seconds, then combat with that entity should immediately cease.
Difficulty scaling is desperately needed. 9 years. 6 paid expansions. 25 DLCs. 41 game changing updates including A Realm Reborn-tier overhaul of the game including a permanent CP160 gear cap and ridiculous power creep thereafter. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Cadwell Silver&Gold as a "you think you do but you don't"-tier deflection to any criticism regarding the lack of overland difficulty in the game.
