Seeing how ESO's moving into a Season format, I really wanted to give some suggestions and maybe with enough comments we can inform the devs of do's and don'ts when it comes to a Season Pass. I don't know if a Battlepass is in development, but if it is, I'd like this topic to provide proactive feedback before it hits the PTS. Hopefully then ZOS can make needed changes earlier once they see people's comments here.
This topic is not about liking or disliking the concept of a Battlepass, just discussing the potential. Feel free to hate it. I know a lot of people aren't fan of Season passes and that's totally valid.
I'm going to provide some suggestions based on my experiences from some other games that use similar models. Namely Overwatch, Fallout 76 and Marvel Rivals.
- Create passive Season Pass progression. Make quests rewarding again! It would be nice if we could earn some major xp for simply questing. At the moment the reward of zone quests are simply just the Questing experience. It would definitely be nice to have more attached to it, because at the moment the rewards are very lackluster.
- Fallout 76 and Overwatch also allow you to earn XP passively. They don't force you into specific "challenges" you have to do. Of course you can do those to maximize your
xp gain. Reward players for playing your game.
-ESO is sometimes a game for people where you log on, do your dailies, then log off again. Reward players for doing regular activities. Having active Season Pass
progression
while doing quests could feel very satisfying I think.
-Overall ESO needs more rewards. A Season Pass could be a nice way to reward every activity in the game.
- Allow old Season Passes to be grindeable. It would be nice once a Season Pass expires that you could "buy" it again at a later date to grind it out seperately. This could increase the total playtime of players. Maybe once they complete the current one, they can work on an old one?
- Have multiple sorts of Battlepasses. If you have to sell one, then at least make another free one available.
- Potentially have a grindable end reward for those who max out the entire pass. Imagine if you could earn a few Seals of Endeavors repeatably for maxing out the entire pass. I can imagine it wouldn't be much but it could be exciting to look forward to.
