When does needing to grab guild skill lines become a priority?

I mean like... So in order for a character to go from level 15 to level 16, some of his skill lines should be increased, yeah? So maybe it's dual wield and heavy armor. That's fine. Level 15 to 16 was done by leveling those two skill lines...

But there are only 49 level ups in this game until the character achieves champion rank. At that point, there's no more leveling up of Undaunted or Mage Guild skill lines. So my question is simply...

If Undaunted and Fighters Guild are two of my top priority skill lines to make use of, at what level is it gonna be dangerous to still not obtain them? Because if you're level 50, there's no more level ups available for those two skill lines...

I'm about to re-download ESO tonight after years of not playing it. I know that Fighters Guild level is increased by defeating dolmens and Undaunted by defeating new dungeons. But I honestly prefer to play solo. I just want to enjoy this game by playing solo with as many level ups as I can before needing to group up with people to beat dungeons and dolmens with.

Thank you.

Your guild skill lines level independently from your character.

Mages Guild levels from finding purple glowing lore books and doing Mages guild dailies

Fighters guild levels from killing Daedra and Fighters guild dailies

Undaunted levels from delve dailies and dungeon pledges.

Might be a couple things I missed, but that's most of it.

Undaunted also levels from completing dungeons and many of their achievements. Doing HM, no health speed runs makes it easy to level it up in a day or two with guildies.

So let me get this straight. Guild Skill Line level ups are indepedent from character level ups, but in order for a character to level up, he has to increase his skill line levels including Guild Skill Lines? Can you explain please?

Your character levels up from XP, experience points. You can get XP from many different sources including those that will level up your guild skill lines ie: quests, killing enemies etc.

My friend, please explain. I know that. That's obvious. Please.

Look... We can only level up all the way to fifty, my friend. Fifty. Five, zero. We can only level up 49 times. How does that work with needing to level up Guild Skill lines like Undaunted, Mage College, Fighters Guild, et cetera? When we reach fifty, there's no more leveling up to do because everything at that point is Champion Rank.

How does that work? How do I keep leveling up my Guild Skill Lines when I stop gaining XP at level 50?

    How?

Please take the time to fully understand people's questions. Please man...

And that XP which will not make you level 51, but instead give you Champion Points, will go into getting your Guild Skill Lines levels go up?

You start a new character. Unlock Mages, Fighter's, Undaunted, Thieves and Dark Brotherhood as soon as possible. opening most of these early, allow you to get skill ups from just playing the game.

I also unlock the psjic line too, so I can see the psjic portals as i run aroound. ofc, do the Cyro intro quest at 10 for horse speed too.

IMO, opening these should be a priority on every character, even if you do not get skill ups from them for a while (thieves and dark brotherhood).

Yes, your guild skill lines will continue to go up until they are maxed out no matter what level your character is. So if you do a dungeon pledge at CP 30 for example you'll get credit towards your Undaunted and XP towards your CP level. I have characters that didn't max out their guild skill lines until they were CP level 2000+ so you can do it however fast or slow you want.

Here's an extensive list of every skill line which can be ranked up, and what you must do to rank them up. Note that you continue to gain XP past Level 50; it's actually easier to rank some skill lines up at Level 50 because of the XP gain scaling and Enlightened XP boost you get on Level 50 characters.
    • Class Skill Lines — Rank up with XP gained while a Class ability from that particular skill line is slotted. Slot more abilities from that particular skill line to level that skill line quicker.
    • Weapon Skill Lines — Rank up with XP gained while a Weapon ability from that particular skill line is slotted, or while that weapon type is equipped. Slot more abilities from that particular skill line to level that skill line quicker.
    • Armor Skill Lines — Rank up with XP gained while wearing pieces of that armor weight (light, medium, heavy). I'm not sure if slotting the Armor skill increases the rank up rate.
    • Excavation/Scrying — Rank up when Excavating/Scrying Antiquities. In ascending order, you get more XP for Excavating/Scrying green, blue, purple, and gold quality leads.
    • Legerdemain — Rank up by lockpicking, pickpocketing, and laundering/fencing. You gain more points toward the next rank by lockpicking and pickpocketing more difficult targets.
    • Soul Magic — Rank up by completing quests in the Main Quest. The final rank is earned upon defeating Molag Bal.
    • Vampire — Rank up by earning XP while being a vampire. Slot more abilities from that particular skill line to level that skill line quicker.
    • Werewolf — Rank up by killing enemies while transformed as a werewolf. You only need to kill 275 enemies while transformed to reach the maximum rank.
    • Dark Brotherhood — Rank up by completing Dark Brotherhood quests.
    • Fighters Guild — Rank up by killing Daedra or undead, or by defeating Dolmens/Dark Anchors.
    • Mages Guild — Rank up by reading those purple glowing lorebooks scattered throughout any zone.
    • Psijic Order — Rank up by completing Psijic Order quests.
    • Thieves Guild — Rank up by completing Thieves Guild quests.
    • Undaunted — Rank up by earning Undaunted XP, gained from completing 4-man dungeon story quests or by completing daily Undaunted quests/pledges.
    • Assault/Support — Rank up by earning Alliance Points, gained from completing PvP activities such as capturing objectives or defeating enemy players.
    • Racial — Rank up by leveling up. You reach the maximum rank when you hit Level 50.
    • Crafting Skill Lines — Rank up by earning Inspiration, gained by creating/deconstructing items, refining raw materials, and researching traits.

You do not stop gaining XP at level 50. For example, I'm level 2600 something and I'm still getting XP and new levels.

You never stop gaining exp. You can always level skills. After level 50 you stop getting skill points from leveling and instead get champion points. However, you can still get skill points from other sources such as completing certain quests, skyshards, etc.

Just to add to what others have said, ALL skill lines-- class, weapon, armor, crafting, guild, world, etc.-- level up independently of your character's level, so it isn't necessary to level up your character in order to also level up your skill lines.

Where I think you might be getting some of your confusion from is that you receive Attribute Points and Skill Points whenever your character gains a level, and you can then put those Skill Points into your various skill lines as desired-- and that stops at Level 50, since gaining CP levels grants you Champion Points rather than Attribute Points and Skill Points.

However, there are other sources of Skill Points, so you can gain Skill Points without having to level up your character:

Like others have said, many skill lines level up independently of your actual character level. Even at 50, skill lines will continue to level until they're maxed.

Personally, I'd grab them as early as possible. Fighters Guild levels pretty naturally, because you fight so many Daedra throughout the game. Mages Guild is something you can level by zone. I recommend completing zones as your first leveling experience, grabbing skyshards and lorebooks in the process. You'll get many skill point in the process. I'd also strongly encourage doing the guild dailies for Mages, Fighters, and Undaunted guilds.

A new toon should visit the fighters and mage guilds immediately after creation. That way you get credit toward the skill lines whenever you do something like read a lore book or kill a deadra or undead. I think the mages guild line is retroactive and will give you credit for books you've read before gaining the skill line, but for sure the fighters guild will not increase in level if you have not visited the guild to pick up the skill line.

To what seems to be the central question, you can do those skill lines whenever you feel like doing those skill lines. Reaching Level 50 only means that you're not going to get any more attribute points and you'll have to pick up skill points one at a time (skyshards, story quests, etc.) rather than getting them automatically. If you want to level up Undaunted, for example, then just go do the stuff that gets you Undaunted reputation points (Bolgrul's delve dailies, group dungeon story quests, Normal/Vet/HM pledges, Normal/Vet Trial quests, etc.). You can do that anytime.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

A character does NOT need to increase any skill lines to level. A character levels up from gaining experience from killing mobs and questing.

Leveling a skill line only levels the skills in that line, not the character.

Skill lines can be leveled by using the skills in the line, or doing quests for the guild. These are helpful to the player because they make their skills more powerful, but they are not how the character levels.

Also, it is not necessary to level all the guild skill lines. I only level the ones I plan to use skills from.

I grab them early on when I learn crafting.

The first passive of Mages Guild/Fighters Guild can help you save a lot of gold while leveling up.

Finding books/doing dolmens levels these 2 guilds up.
Doing their quest lines levels up these guilds and you at the same time.

Guild leveling is not the same as character leveling.
