I love the mount, and was gonna use it on my main crafter character if we get it... Which I hope we do.

Yeah - it's a strange creature.
These rewards is just a pure taste thing though, and it's not possible to please everyone.
I suppose people are normally happier about larger rewards (such as houses), but we can earn a house during Q4 events. And there are also themes that seem to be better received my more players than whatever this fluffy camelid is supposed to be, but we can't always expect to like everything that's offered in events, dailies and so on.

I am pretty sure we will. If it was me running an event like this, the last thing I would want is to have the event fail to meet the top goal. Especially during an Anniversary. The "optics" would be bad.

I am surprised at how much hate this mount gets actually. I thought it was pretty cool and unique but I don't think I've seen a single other person excited for it lol.

I like it. I think it's cute, but I also like alpacas and llamas - which it's similar to.

This is a mount I'll never use, for sure.

Agreed, I think they're too gaudy haha. But I think we're the minority NGL.

My opinion: I completely understand that players like to stand out and show off, but if everyone is a constant light show then it will never be exciting because we'll be so used to it. It just becomes rote after a while. I greatly prefer a nice model with good detail that doesn't rely on particle effects and emissives to catch the eye. The camelid is cool because it's a completely new species (or subspecies) in the game with a look we've never seen before.

I think it's strange it never showed up anywhere in the game world before.

Also, I'm sometimes wondering if a normal creature that also exists in the real world might appeal to players more than a strangely changed fantasy version. In this case a normal alpaca instead of a feathered one with strange feet (normal camels also exist in the game, after all). Same thing with those cats with 4 ears (I think there are at least 2 variants of those already?): I've read from several people that they would actually prefer them to have 2 ears.

The limitation is any mount they make now has to work with their 6 or so existing animation models. For example, it has to be a cat, dog, horse, camel, bear or guar. I might have missed one, but I think those are the only six. The welwa's are bears, the sheep are horses and this beast is a camel as far as the animation goes. I guess this beast might be a horse too. We'll have to see how it moves.

Edited to add: My warden’s mount is set to random because of her special connection to animals, so if we get it, I’m sure it will be coming up from time to time.

I know, but that still doesn't explain why it has feathers and hands/feet(?) and doesn't look like a normal alpaca. No matter if it walks like a horse or like a camel.

I know, I've read that meanwhile. It's a rare medical malformation (I hope this is the neutral term in English), just like sometimes a calf with 6 legs is born. It's still strange to make it the standard for a cat model in game, while the same model doesn't exist with just two ears.

I think the nix oxen and the dwemer spider mounts are missing. Can't think of any more categories than thoose though.

I like the idea of the animal. It's fine, and as something that could occur naturally in a Tamriel environment, it's definitely better than yet another obnoxiously flashy laser light show with some mount attached.

I have a hard time getting over the legs. I already cringe when I inadvertently pay attention to the legs of ESO's horses, but this image is very ... non-flattering.

I honestly don't think there was much though put into it but "we need something fluffy, cute, weird and have it sitting on al old rig we already have, like camel". As I've got last expansion recently it all falls into a pattern kinda overall by how it looks, it's pretty wow'y to me and that's probably intentional switch in recent years, thought I'd give them a credit art direction is still a mixed bag and they're trying going both visual direction in a same time be it cute cartoonish or alien abhorrence and stuff in-between.
