yes, I have some recommendations, but that is not enough!! I want to see how many people visited! it's a half-baked 'feature'.

Visitor count should absolutely be a core component of this feature, but they shouldn't just stop there.

We should be able to see how many people are in a house, and filter by population, before we visit it. Very basic and core function for a feature like this.

    Wow that is unexpectedly harsh^^.
I don't care about the house tours, but I also think that it would still be uninteresting with a visitor counter.

More information would definitely make the system become more engaging and encourage its continued use. As it is right now, it's too haphazard, at the very list it would be nice to have a check mark, or some indication for houses that we've visited, and a simple metric for the number of visitors to our own houses.

I don't think I have a single primary activity, but I fail to see what that counter would do. Validation from strangers? From a number that can be artificially inflated by zoning in alt accounts? Is that what it is?

I believe visitors and recommendations are hidden, but that you get a notification if your home is featured on Recommended.

I think it's better that it remains hidden so people don't get too hooked on seeing the number of visitors and potentially feeling disappointed.

But, it would be nice if you got a little mail with some housing mats for having some low minimum number of visitors for the week. And maybe a flower furnishing, like the Tales of Tribute trophies? Then it'd be a nice little surprise that isn't as competitive, and people can display their little housewarming flowers. :)

I asked for clarification because the person implied I am not able to understand. I am pretty sure I am able to understand, I was just insinuating that their view point may not be entirely reasonable. I didn't really need another person to come in and repeat that I just don't get it.

This is something I am struggling to compute. I agree with you, and I think the feature has been set up this way in order to avoid creating competition.

But this is a game filled with achievements, objectives and leaderboards, all of which are squarely aimed at competition. Every aspect of the game is geared towards that feeling of "winning" which by definition means you are in competition with others.

I don't necessarily want this for housing, but the housing community has run competitions forever, there are nearly always some guilds running a comp (screenshots, focused builds on a theme etc) somewhere.

So far the home tours feature has resulted in some people getting some pretty basty, troll-like mail about how rubbish their house build is from stangers who have visited and then criticised (and not in a constructive way). The simple fact is that by opening your house to visitors puts it on show which is effectively putting it in competition with others.

The housing community hub addon has allowed us to post house builds open to visitors for years, and the visitor book enabled us to see how many people have come to take a look. Leaving that aspect out of the built in feature just seems strange.

Of course nobody wants to be disappointed. But equally, nobody is removing aspects of other game features so that players don't feel disappointed. If you said that about PVP you would most likely be met with the same old "git gud" response as always.

Like I said, I don't really want this to become a part of housing in the game. It's always been a relaxing, engaging creative activity that is much more about artistic enjoyment of the beautiful graphics in the game than any form of competition. But there's just no avoiding the fact that housing has been competitive for as long as I have been involved. Nobody who enters a guild comp with some of the big names expects to win, nor should they feel disappointed when they don't.

It's supposed to be about the enjoyment of creating something you like. Sharing it with others will always bring you into some kind oif competition whether you like it or not.

I genuinely feel that this flop of a feature could just disappear soon. Many of the houses I have visited have been less than impressive when compared with some of the truly magnificent builds that can be seen. It's difficult to criticise, because every home listed has had care and effort put in, and it's someones vision of what they can do with their house, but often it's just placing furnishings rather than anything truly inventive or extraodrinary.

Players who aren't invested in housing may find that after a few visits they find little of interest and stop using the feature, simply because the way the recommendations list is going it seems filled with random houses that maybe aren't quite impressive enough to create real engagement.

Pity, when in reality there are so many truly awesome things to see. But aside actually knowing the name of the builder, how does anyone find them?

I was expecting this, because now I'll never know if 'anyone' has ever visited my home. It's surprising such a basic thing isn't in a huge, what is essentially a gallery update for the game. Even Phantasy Star Online 2 would show how many visitors you had as it was one of the criteria to be on the leaderboards for the amount of visitors who visited your home that week iirc.

So not to brag, but I have reached the “recommended” list with four different houses. But the houses I am personally most proud of were not among them.

So it’s a bit off putting to me, I just am curious if people actually like the houses I like.

I think we all need to remember this is a game and we are all playing it for fun.

I know what I do for housing is nothing spectacular or others may not appreciate my houses but I still like what I did and enjoyed the process. It definitely can be disheartening not to make it on recommended list (for any or particular homes) but understand that other people may have different taste and expectations.

Hope people just enjoy the tour tool for the spirit of sharing creations and don't get too competitive or toxic.

Not saying it can't improve (e.g. more varied tag options, able to mark homes already visited, ability to type in house name rather than scrolling through long list of houses etc) but at least I am happy I can visit homes for players not in guild / friendlist, without using mods.

they did mention the recommended subsection was a random selection of those which had few/no recommends to ones which were highly recommended

from what i could tell i dont know if there is any kind of sorting on that tab to determine which ones are recommended, as a user who doesnt own the house, theres no way to tell if the houses have any recommendations whatsoever

the UI definitely needs a lot of work with this, i have no idea where it shows recommendations if you got any, or if your house is even featured
