Please FIX Your Forum

wondergearsb16_ESO
These forums are a disaster and do not reflect the professionalism of a company involved in creating such an outstanding product. The User Experience is pretty dismal on the forum and interaction side of things.

I believe the opportunity for users to easily interact with one another, giving advice, asking questions, getting answers is heavily underestimated here.

    They just did an update to make it better (sorted things into categories by language... much less messy! :) ).

    I'm not saying it's perfect now, but it's a definite improvement. Perhaps it might be more constructive at this point if you say precisely what bothers you about it, and be specific on how to fix it.

    Living vicariously through my characters.

    My Girls:
    "If you were trapped in your house for, say, a year, how would you pass the time?"

    Nephikah the Houseless, dunmer assassin: "I suppose I could use the break. I have a lot of business holdings now that need management."
    Swum-Many-Waters, elderly argonian healer: "I think that I would enjoy writing a memoir."
    Silh'ki, khajiit warrior-chef: "Would this one be able to go outside, to the nearby river? It's hard to fish without water!"
    Peregrine Huntress, bosmer hunter: "Who is forcing me to stay inside, and where can I find them?"
    Lorenyawe, altmer mechanist: "And why would I want to go outside in the first place? Too much to be done in the workshop."
    Lorelai Magpie, breton master thief: "I'd go nuts. Lucky for me, I have a little experience sneaking out!"
    Rasheda the Burning Heart, redguard knight: "I would continue my training to keep my skills sharp."
    Hex-Eye Azabi, khajiit daedric priestess: "I suppose it would be lucky, then, that I built a shrine to Mephala in my backyard."
    Yngva Stormhammer, nord bandit (reformed...ish): "I hate being inside even when I'm not forced to be. GET. ME. OUT."
    Madam Argentia, vampire dunmer aristocrat: "I suppose it would be more of the same. I have a rather... contentious relationship with the sun."
    Mazie gra-Bolga, orc scout: "Uh... I'd have to house train my bear..."
    Felicia the Wanderer, imperial witch-for-hire: "What Lorelai said."
    Calico Jaka-dra, retired khajiit pirate: "This one would like a rest from her grand adventures. Her jewel shop runs out of stock!"
    Shimmerbeam, blind altmer psijic: "Provided that I am confined to Artaeum, I do not think I will want for things to occupy my time."
    Shauna Blackfire, redguard necromancer: "Sounds like paradise. I hate people."
    Kirniel the Undying, cursed bosmer warrior: "I would feel useless, not being able to fight."
    Echoes-from-Dragons, argonian who thinks she's a dragon: "All the better to count my hoard!"

    (Signature idea shamelessly stolen from Abeille.)

    Seems to me it's perfectly possible ask questions and get answers in spite of the generally horrible nature of these forums, lots of players are doing so.

    What is totally missing though is a normal 'General Discussion' forum where a 'community' can establish itself on more than just asking questions and getting factual answers.

    Let me help you out a bit:
    • Reply button on first post. I may not want to read all of the replies from others, and being able to reply without quoting right from the initial post would be great.
    • Back to Top button. I'm tired of scrolling!

    Well for starters
    - The forum landing page does not show the sub forum that each category contains
    - Number of discussions does not realistically reflect the number of topics
    - There are no forums for discussing the classes within the game
    - Crafting is clumped into one forum
    - I do not read forums outside of English and therefore do not need them listed

    I might suggest forums break down in familiar patterns - as examples

    1. Community
    -> General Discussion
    -> Gameplay Feedback
    -> Off Topic
    -> Dev Tracker

    2. Gameplay (a general forum)
    -> PVP (subforum)
    -> PVE (subforum)
    -> Quests (subforum)
    -> Crafting (subforum)
    -> Open World Dungeons (subforum)

    3. Classes (a general forum)
    -> Dragon Knight (subforum)
    -> Nightblade (subforum)
    -> Sorcerer (subforum)
    -> Templar (subforum)

    4. Help & Support (a general forum)
    -> Service Status (subforum)
    -> Tech Support (subforum)
    -> Issues and Workarounds (subforum)
    -> Bug Report (subforum)

    Though yes, this is perfectly possible, I never said it was not. You have to actually search your way around the landing page to get where you want, instead of an intuitive interface that makes it all easy for all users.

    I wouldn't normally make any deal out of this however forums are a staple of every game these days and having one that is so clumsy isn't really excusable.
