I'm actually looking forward to it. One of my biggest gripes with Battlegrounds and ESO pvp in general has been its 3-faction set-up. In BGs, it often leads to matches where you just find out which team is the weakest and then the 2 other teams just race to farm that team the quickest.

I guess 4v4 Battlegrounds might still turn out dull if one team is clearly stronger, but 8v8 with random players sounds like it could be a ton of fun.

I wish they would return to the old cyro map. Current map was fine when we had 200 players on each faction to cover it. NOW, with populations caps we don't need the towns the 3 new outposts.

The map is not balanced with those 3 outposts.

Plus I would love to see towers removed. All two sides can do most of the time is cap a resource and run in the tower and out the back and hide. You removed the doors, now it's time to just get rid of towers. Make players come to keeps so there is real PVP not ppl hiding in towers so they can 5 v 1.

I'm ready to fight only ONE team. IDC if it's faction based. A timed event (1-2 hours) 25 v 25 up to 50 v 50.

Part of the challenge with making additions/changes to Battlegrounds is the population isn't huge.

So, for example if you make a move such as adding something like 8 v 8 you are going to potentially have queue issues in the long run unless you cut the existing 4 v 4 v 4 out.

8 v 8 might make it easier to absorb player skill gaps but, it might also mean that queue times might slightly increase as you'd need 16 rather than 12 for a match.

One of the drivers for people to do Battlegrounds is the daily reward which generally goes to 8 of the 12 players in a match if it is their first one on that character. If the rules don't shift, only 8 of the 16 will get it which might put a slight damper on some participation.

I did have a good bit of fun doing 8 v 8 in SWTOR but, it did at times have boring moments such as when you were stuck sitting alone guarding a point to stop it from getting capped. At times you could spend minutes being bored watching everyone else have fun fighting at mid followed by brief burst of action as you got attacked by one or more players using stealth.

My big wish is for IC to be free-for-all (but can enter with a group of up to four). Faction stacking and large groups absolutely destroy the experience there.

I highly doubt that would go over well with 98% of the playerbase.

I just don't believe that ZOS cares about pvp at all.
Ohw come on... basically every balance update we ever had was/is because of PvP, and ZOS has spent years and many resources trying to fix the Cyrodiil issues. With Morrowind they released battlegrounds. They wouldn't have done all that if they really didn't care about PvP.

Also the upcoming Q4 DLC is something new for PvP.

PS: ZOS has also taken all negative attention about PvP and has tried to turn it into a positive. Where if they really didn't care for PvP, they could have just removed PvP altogether to get rid of all the negative attention that aspect gives the game.

I said "new content", not a content rework, as far as I'm concerned those fall under "content reworks" not actual new content. Meanwhile everything else gets actual new content. The last time pvp got something new was 6 years ago in the form of a BG map. What's the PVP equivalent of PVE getting the Lucent Citadel trial? The recent Undeath nerf? Lol that's not even comparable. One of those is a rework and one is new content.

New content would actually be a new way to play, not slightly altering the meta, that's what the balancing patches were for. Don't be disingenuous, pvp doesn't actually get new content.
Don't get me wrong, I do agree with you. But the quote I was replying to was about ZOS supposedly not caring about PvP, while they are doing MANY things to PvP behind the curtain which we do not directly see. Even though it is not new PvP content technically, they are spending quite a bit of time and resources on PvP. And yes, the new upcoming undeath nerf is them balancing for the sake of PvP yet again, and harming PvE yet again. (Perfect balance can never be achieved, to me spending time on trying to reach perfect balance feels like wasted time and resources. Time and resources ZOS could have spent on new content instead, either PvE or PvP.)

For the record, I do think PvP does need more/new content! Or at the very least a way for PvE players to participate in or touch upon PvP in a fair and competitive way.

at least that was my expectation until they introduced the new housing "system" that's not more than a menu with a rating function... from that point on, I didn't expect anything anymore.
2 - Considering their "new system" was just a housing Add on that existed for years... I'd say ZoS has lost their edge. It's clear they have reached the point where creativity is gone and the studio has shifted more into how do we keep making money to sustain what we have.
Well, ZOS is having the problem where add-ons have already basically added all QoL anyone could ever ask for. Every QoL update ZOS has done, has been met with backlash because of add-ons:
-ZOS improved the crafting dailies experience by adding arrows, quest only, and such. The community responded: "That does not help me, because I use add-ons to automatically craft everything for the dailies/master writs anyways."
-ZOS added the armory. The community responded: "My add-on does the exact same, but faster and even in places the armory does not function."
-Now they are adding a new housing feature. The community responds: "But my add-ons can do all of that already."

Add-ons have painted ZOS into a corner on what they can add. There is an add-on for practically everything, so no QoL things ZOS will add will be new for many players. The only thing ZOS can still create from scratch is entirely new systems(like scribing or ToT for example), everything else is covered by add-ons already. But new systems take a lot of time. Note: Personally I am hoping ZOS will add some truly endless overaching systems(CP 3.0/rebirth/special drops/etc), similar to achievements but better and endless. To tie the entire game together, stretching across both PvP and PvE.

I agree what you wrote about the QoL and yes on PC you have add-ons for nearly evertything but on consoles you had to do everything by your own. For those players it was good to added arrows and armory system.

I switched at the beginning of the year to PC and for me it was a "new game". Lazy Writs, Mini Map, mage book locations....all this things are not on consoles.

I hope they will add something useful in Q4 or something that we need in PvP but when i read what the housing feature is, i think it will be something we dont ask for.

What I expect it to be,,,, Nothing of significance.

What I think would fix PvP for good and make it fun again, Too many people would complain.

That said, 2 fixes would cure PvP in this game, lag and all and also allow them to raise the pop cap back to where it used to be:
    1. Get rid of proc sets.
    2. Get rid of AOEs, You have to aim at what you hit

Bonus: Zergs would become more like fish in a barrel vs a swarm of angry hornets.

Edit: AOEs should be limited to Ballistas, Trebuchets and the like (depending on type used)

As I see it, wishfull thinking:

    - BGs with only 2 teams competing. Maybe 8 vs 8 or even 10 vs 10 added. BG modes vary. Rankings.

    - Arena style game mode, something like 4v4, 2v2, with 3 new arenas, rankings.

    - Duel arena, rankings for duels.

    - rework of AP points, something to do with them to not be totally useless currency , like buy transmute crystals for AP, with appropriate ratio, and other usefull currencies which you desperately need but can only be achiveable with playing PvE. Its catastrophic especially when you remake a set, and spend 4 weeks of Transmute crystals to realize that set is useless. Or make Transmutes more achiveable in PvP. (1 crystal a day for daily BGs in BG reward boxes, and 4 randomly if you are lucky...[snip]? Not to metion 50 crstals AFTER you finish campaign - 50m crystals for a month of gameplay.) At this ratio i need almost a month to trasmute ONE SET ITEM.

This is the biggest let down of a PvP player who wants to experiment with new sets, but cannot due to lack of currency you need to do it. The point of ESO, and what makes it actually awesome is shattered right there.

    - OR Currency "market", where you can buy/sell currencies, to accomodate the PVP gaming to make the PvP currency usefull for EVERY part of the game. (like buy PvE sets, materials needed to make new equipment, cosmetics...) Finally dont force us to do tedious PvE content to make our goals as PvP players viable, by changing usefulness of PVP currencies.

I'd be disapointed af. Sure, PvP is nothing but moneysink for ZOS, but i still hope they'd fix the balancing issues of ball groupos and way too defensive meta.

There already is a solution, the battle spirit condition. And for turning pvp more profitable, there needs to be something much more rewarding for people to invest in PvP. Like guild vs guild systems and maybe some sort of reward vendors similar to IA, which changes weekly.

Atm AP is kind of obsolete outside of PvP
    NB enthusiastic:
    1. Woodhippie stamblade - DW hard-hitter / PvE
    2. Know-it-all elf Magblade - Healer / PvE & PvP
    3. Hate-them-all elf Magblade - Destrostaff AoE monster / PvE
    4. Cyrodiil-Refugee stamblade - Stamina Tank / PvE

I absolutely love BG and smaller scale PVP, if there are better leaderboards and events coupled with this it could definitely be a positive for the pvp community.

There will obviously be more team coördinated PVP involved, but I don't see that as a bad part. PVP guilds might become more of a thing. If they were to do anything for PVP, I always thought adding competitive team vs team modes would probably bring back a few die hard pvp players.

We'll see, but I was honestly expecting nothing, BG updates are very welcome for me.

The 3 v 3 v 3 RUINS any chance of really competitive PVP. I'm sick of always facing 2 sides. And we need more than a 4 person team. At least 15 v 15 and up to 50 v 50. WHY can ZOS not look at other PVP events in other MMO's and have one that is only 2 teams. I was looking forward to BG's but the 3 teams ruins it. All it takes is ONE player on your team to not be playing objectives or going stealth just to get credit for the game and you have NO chance. Give us a larger player event where healers are actually needed.

ZOS has stated that the Q4 "PvP" release has nothing to do with Cyrodiil. Which, in short, means ZOS is not releasing anything noteworthy PvP related in Q4.

    1. They already said it won’t be Cyrodiil-related, which implies it will be Battlegrounds-related.
    2. The Housing update was Activity Finder-related, which implies the PvP update will be Battlegrounds-related.

So my guess is we will get a few 100%-reused assets “new maps” being added into Battlegrounds maps (like they always do), and that leaves the only other possible addition as some new ways to queue for BGs such as Team v Team of different sizes. That’s what players have asked from BGs for 7 years after all.

This is the only logical conclusion unless something truly new is added.

But nothing is known yet so who knows! Nothing officially spoken about. I would say that my guesses are pretty spot on though.

My prediction, based on the "much anticipated housing feature" recently released is that the Q4 PvP feature will be a dual finder addition to the group finder menu. Don't expect anything and don't get your hopes up. If the Q4 PvP feature is not cyrodiil related then ZOS is not really doing anything PvP related in the first place.

Completely agree, Activity Finder updates are not actual new features. It’s as much of a “big PvP update” as the Housing update was in this Q3.

Which also brings into question the value proposition of the $15/month subscription ESO+.

ZOS launches a DLC every quarterly update.
At first you would be able to play all brand new DLC content that was being launched by having an active subscription. Then they renamed their Q2 DLC, aka the biggest content drop of the year, from “DLC” into “Chapter” and said you could no longer play it through subscription. And now in 2024, they removed two of the four DLC drops *while still maintaining the Chapter content*.

I wonder if 2024 is just a bad year for this game or if it’s a sign for how they will proceed going forward.

After the housing community became super-hyped over Update 43 only to have the rug pulled out from under them with a nothing burger of an update, I have zero expectations for the Q4 PVP update. What was great about the first half of this year for ESO? The grand 10-year Anniversary Event was a grinding RNG style page farm disaster, followed up by a surprise Transmutation Exploit Event disaster, followed up by the smallest chapter we have ever received with Gold Road which in itself has many shortcomings.

Sounds like the worst year this game has had ever since the chapter format was established in 2017. I wouldn’t call 2024 a great year in any regard for this game.

There was Hope in the early part of the year.

I think Gold Road, Scribing, and Housing Tours have failed to generate broad excitement. Gold Road felt wrong. Ithelia wasn't really part of West Weald. West Weald had an Ithelia coat of paint, but the two didn't really fit. Scribing came with a "To Be Continued" sign. Housing Tours was very niche.

They have a chance with the 4th Quarter PVP addition. It has to be a "WOW! Amazing!" thing, at this point, though, and not just with a handful of Twitch streamers. If they come up with an average entry with just a spin on what they have for PVP now, or some idea that does not engage broadly with the PVP players...

No matter what the future holds for PVP this year, I am sure someone will like the changes, just as there are people who like Housing Tours. Anything is better than than nothing, but it really needs a Bang! right now.

My fear is that the high point will be the two companions, and we still don't know if they are base game, or how many Crowns they will charge for them.

A duel finder would be a 2-man-job, I think, just like the Housing Tours. If they come out with something like that twice in one year, that would raise the question what they have all the other devs working on. I suppose we're not allowed to speculate, but it would be hard not to.
