why do both the European megaserver and the North American megaserver have to be off line on the same day?

Its frustrating to those who use both

    I most certainly did and provided a link to the answer 'directly from the horse's mouth' so to speak.

    During other maintenances it might be possible to have separate times for each megaserver, in fact I want to remember that it was like that many years ago, however for some reason is not desirable. What reason that is I don't know.

    But today's maintenance requires all servers to be taken offline at the same time; PC, console, PTS, the lot.

    The question was.... WHY BOTH SERVERS ARE DOWN ON THE SAME DAY.... NOT WHY THEY ARE DOWN; EVERYONE KMOWS WHY THEY ARE DOWN

    Because it makes a lot more sense to shut down everything when there is an intensive maintenance that needs to be performed vs shutting things down piece-meal and frustrating half the user base.

    Just go outside for a few hours or something, you'll be alright.

    you cant transfer anything BETWEEN the USA and EUROPE, the SERVERS are SEPERATE

    Whilst the NA and EU PC megaservers are 2 separate setups, they share the same account system. If this account system requires maintenance, then both megaservers need to be offline.

    excluding the server hardware refresh or issues with a specific server,
    i cannot recall the last maintenance that was for 1 region instead of both

    Your main @ account is not tied to EU or NA.It's the main account servers they are doing maintenance on,and there's no way to log onto either of them,while they are worked on.

    Here is the thing, they previously did account service maintenance without taking off servers. However, this time, the account service maintenance is very different, and it requires the server to be shutdown, or else, people might lose their game data stored in the servers.

    No matter where you live, there isn't going to be an ideal maintenance timeframe for everyone.

    There is no transfer of player information between servers. Instead there is 1 server that handles account stuff (including your crowns and logging in) and multiple servers for playing the game (NA/EU/etc)

    Making an effort to plan it while the most of NA and EU are supposed to be asleep would be ideal for the majority though.

    You're talking about when the NA and EU servers had different game clients, so one could be taken down without impacting on the other. Once they merged the game clients it had the advantage for the players that they only had to install one game client to play on both servers but the disadvantage that both servers had to be down for maintenance and patching at the same time, otherwise the players would be switching between different game versions when they switched server and that would be hugely problematic.
