i certainly wouldnt if i was forced to do the entire questline either

thankfully alts only have to do the first quest (second era of scribing) to gain access to the system

the part they need to improve is access to the scripts/ink

It's a real grind, but most of the mini-stories were pretty engaging. Far more enjoyable than closing a bazillion time rifts.

I’m not really excited for it now, but I’m hoping the class skills when introduced will make it better. But if they don’t end up doing class skills and this becomes all that scribing is, it’s rather a disappointment. I wonder what kinds of class skills they’re working on?

I'm glad I experimented with the system on the PTS before and didn't find a single Scribing skill that I really wanted to use on one of my characters. So I don't feel the need grind for Ink, quickly get all the Scripts nor unlock Scribing on all of my characters.

That said, I still find the low drop rate of Ink a bit annoying. While I get that ZOS wants players to spend as much time as possible in ESO, I would've preferred it if Ink wouldn't be necessary for Scribing at all. I can imagine that people would've enjoyed experimenting with all of the different combinations to their hearts' content. As it is, I guess that quite a few players will just google "Best Scribing skills" and go with combinations other players suggest instead.

And being able to buy Ink from Guild Traders isn't really a great solution imo. Especially for players without a lot of gold buying all of the Grimoires is pretty costly already, and the prices for Ink might stay relatively high for a while too. Having more gold sinks might be nice, but I'm not sure if a Chapter's Big Feature should be a gold sink itself.

This is all so true. Something that could’ve been all sorts of fun experimenting with different combinations to find the one that’s best for you has become something where you stingily have to hoard ink and make sure you have the right skill before even getting to try it out. Too bad in the little training room in the Scholarium we can’t just try combinations for free.

I completely sympathize. Today was especially awful for me and I didn't know if I was going to be able to finish. Luckily my friend logged in and talked me down, and I got it done.

I know that they probably wanted a momentous quest chain for a brand new feature, and it being long wouldn't have been so bad if the quests had been fun instead of frustrating.

The time rifts may have sent me all over, but at least there was the feeling that something important was happening. There is none of that with Scribing. Nothing important is happening. I am just running around for the sake of running around. There is no purpose here.

I'm seeing a lot of mixed reviews about the new scribing system that's being introduced into the new chapter, some concerning, some exciting. As a console player, I will have to wait a bit longer and do not have access to the PTS like PC/Mac does.

What's your overall take on the chapter?
    How's the Scribing?
Is the ink drop rate that atrocious, is it meant to be that way?

I ask because I've thought for a bit now on buying the pre-purchase bundle, thinking "well a new trial and scribing does seem like a good investment", but seeing the feedback from the PTS is making me think twice.

I imagine ZOS will make adjustments to the current concerns, hopefully. If not, well.. sheesh.

    1. Can't speak for the overall chapter as i'm still running through it - zone looks nice though.
    2. Quest to unlock scribing is fine - it takes some time but from what i understand for alts it won't be that annoying i suppose. Even grinding content for the scripts and purchasing the skills is okay. Again it will cost more on the first character but alts should have it a lot cheaper so not the worse i guess.
    3. Ink drops is my biggest issue. It's either bugged or zos is just trying to cull their player base. I can't express how stupid it is. No other zone later this year so they are just going to stretch this out as much as possible thinking it will keep players interested - it won't. I have no desire to experiment with this system. I'll wait until someone else has to tell me what is best for dps, tanking, healing and pvp and then ill just craft my skill. I won't be changing them afterwards. My assumption is that ink will be on crown stores soon to help with this. Like everything else they make now a days. I don't blame the developers for this but the creative direction.
Crown Crates are a trap. Don't fall for the gamble! Balance? What Balance? Balance, smellance.

Almost forgot - duplicate scripts. Shame on you Devs...just wow. At least let us convert them to bound inks.

Those should be curated if you’re learning them as you go.

How do you learn them without using them for a specific grimoire? Not even sure how all this works. Nvm I read the answer in the Alcast guide someone linked.

Something I find really illogical about the Scribing questline now that I've completed it - I end up being hailed as the great Scribing expert without even having tried the skill once (apart from the first use you make at the very beginning).

Because of the design, with the high costs and the grind required to get the ink, affixes, etc., you can't test the system at all.

Scribing is probably a worse "feature" to spend a lot of time on since most will not continuously play around with it. I expect to see "optimal scribes" and some will aim toward those, but many will not even bother as noted by some in this thread. I can't see grinding it on all my alts (60 total across PC and PS5).

That does not make it as big of a win as ZOS said and some streamers indicated.

I don't like ToT, but at least that has a lot of repeatability. Even the IA has repeatability, but I simply don't see it for scribing. For most. A few will likely bang the heck out of it, but will that be enough to keep most players engaged?

The quest is a little more interesting and involving than Psjiic, but is exactly like Psjiic in length and unnecessary tedious repetition.

There are also some alarmingly childish sections that wouldn't be out of place in a toddlers Animal Adventure Cascade game with a talking fox and giant jellyfish (netch) that are voiced like a cross between Bugs Bunny and Wile E Coyote.

Unlike Psijiic there isn't a function to buy from the Crown Store for other chars once completed.

The ink being tied to RNG drops is sad and should be improved upon, but other than that:

I've created some spells that I've been using.
Made a nice heal that fits into my build better and that has allowed me to finally part with my much hated restoration staff.
Threw together a spammable AOE for group PvE content that's been beautiful to use and definitely an improvement.

I have two more I plan to try out, I just need to get the scripts I want to use and I don't even think the grind for them is bad (been getting a minimum of 9 a day).

no clue as to the rarity though compared to other rare drops, though for people who have the chapter, its much more efficient to do a bunch of daily quests for guaranteed curated bound scripts

I did the full quest chain once, and the quick one on my other 6 characters. I'm now going around picking up the free things on all of them before I start actually questing the zone then will not actively look for any more, and will just find things as they come.

As long as all this takes I think Scribing could have been its own DLC.

Careful, you might get hired. A whole DLC of just repeating decade old overworld quests? And those chumps will pay money for it while telling everyone else to git gud? It's not just the time commitment, but that they're demanding us to do repeated chores. Daily time gated. The absolute worst "content" corporate AAA gaming has to offer.

    yes and no

sure there's a couple of ones held back by silly decisions, namely the fighters guild torch being a self snaring channel and the resto staff one only have a 12 second duration rather than just being a toggle, but outside of those two the avaiable skills are rather potent, you just have to be creative.

    A few pratical examples

1: The destro staff one, you can very easily set this up to be a 15K explosion in an element of your choosing restoring 441 mag per enemy hit and giving you major brute and sorc for 20 seconds, aka an extremely potent crowd clearing tool.
    zxls36t3dflg.png

2: The dual weild one, AoE double hit that does midding damage with a delayed blast, but makes the targets take 8% more damage from ALL martial sources and sets all targets hit off balance, in other words, an on demand 18% damage increase for 7 seconds which becomes an 8% damage increase for 15 seconds.
    jtdlzvygwea8.png

3: Mages guild, a little slappy heal for you and your allies which makes you take 8% less damage and gives you minor protection for 22 seconds ontop of that
    2gft4ibsxneh.png

4: Weild soul, stun your target, slap them with an oblivion damage DoT and debuff them with majir breach, a useful if odd pvp tool
    cjpsuuhf48ek.png

5: soul burst, Pull in every enemy within 8 meters, snare them for 30% and slap them all with minor breach, a handy little tool for a PvE tank
    c7h6scnjkjb5.png

and so on and so fourth, sure not all of them are all the damage or all the heal, but they all bring something extremely useful to the table

Still not getting ink to drop. Made and played with 4 skills. Ran out of ink. None are quite where I want them to be. Maybe 6-8 months after release of Gold Road when ink is 1k each I'll be able to play with a system I bought 2 months ago.

I was on my PC EU second account yesterday, fishing on my level 49. Over the course of about 3 hours, she collected 6 ink from: a wood node, a water node, a mushroom node, and a runestone - the wood and water gave two each, the others 1 each. Most ink I've ever got in playing normally - those were all in Grahtwood.
