As of late find myself lacking participating in guilds, but feel the need to keep them for access to stores, or unable to find a proper alternative.
I have 2 trading guilds, one pve, and two pvp. Out of these, I am perhaps truly active in only one.
Thought I would ask others and see if I can get some inspiration.

Not much, though you do need at least one for trading. That being said I am not active, and if not for trading I wouldn't bother. IMHO there is a need for a global trading system which opens up trading to all players. The present system is dominated by a few trading cartels, with lesser guilds only getting slim pickings with the less desirable sites. With the planed changes to the 'trading timing system' I don't see how this is going to work out. It is hard enough to get sales from these remote areas at the best of times.

I joined 5 guilds, because this is the maximum. They cover the need for sales and communication. Hopefully in the future, ZOS will add new features, guild houses, quests and guild currency and then it will be even better.

I enjoy farming and selling. So I am always in Trading Guilds. I have never paid guild fees, other than sales tax.

I don't participate in Guild events as most trading guilds have moved the organisation of these activities into Discord. Including trials. Discord appears to be making ordinary in-game guilds redundant for anything but linking sales to a trader.

If the proposed changes are moving 30 days limits back to 14, this won't have any effect on me.

As an ordinary guild member, I have no use for the guild bank.

My main motivation is having people to chat to while I'm playing. Yes there's zone chat too, but guild chat means it's always the same group, and we can keep the conversation going no matter where we are and what we're doing.

Sometimes it's just nice to connect with other players, but it also gives me a place to ask (and answer) questions and often a prompt to join in with things I might not otherwise do to help people out.

2 of my guilds do also have traders, which is a nice bonus, especially since you're not required to hit sales targets (or use them at all) so I just sell whatever I happen to have spare. (Although I would prefer a modern trade system that's not so convoluted.)

I met wonderful people while i was in guilds, but finally nothing best like freedom. Do what i want when i want, and how i want.
Giving away on zone do not bring me the tag *show off* and order me to stop doing this in guild.

i totally understand rules, but when rules favor the high rank and not the recruit, i have no interest into filling a guild bank.

Lastly, if i have to be away for health issues, i can without worrying to be kicked (though my last guild kept me in for very long even when i was sick, and for that i will always thanks them)

I'm in an assortment of Guilds across three acounts, however two of those Guilds I am in on all of my accounts!

They are run by the same team, trading guilds but also so much more, the extra activities are optional but there is always something going on.

Both celebrated ninth birthdays this year and I've been there for all of them, they are pretty much always full.

Excellent Guilds exist but sometimes it's a matter of luck finding them. 💞

I've seen a few people say this as a reason for not joining a guild and it always confuses me. I've been in a lot of guilds across several different games and never encountered one that told me how to spend my time. Many have guild events and schedule things like dungeon runs or skyshard collection runs, but it's always optional, I've never seen one tell members they have to take part.

Have I just gotten lucky that every guild I've ever joined is happy to let their members do what they want, or am I misunderstanding the implication of comments like this?

I'd say that it's not a bad decision so left some guilds and try other ones, there's so much different communities that chances are high some would spark your interest and made the conversation going by itself, same with participation. Personally I have couple sentimental ones, first casual one and second first raiding one and other slots are filled with PvP/trading/housing I need at the time.

So guild wise what I’ve found is:

    - You need at least one trading guild (obviously) if you want to be able to sell anything worth selling
    - This one won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, BUT, I’ve enjoyed it. I’ve found that guilds tied to bigger streamers or YouTube content creators tend to be very active and have a mix of new and veteran players. So you can get your fix of engaging end game content AND help out new players. These are my social guilds basically.
    - If you’re a PvP person, there are guilds dedicated to just that and I’ve found these to be pretty cool.

I don’t join guilds with the purpose of end game activities in mind anymore as I’ve found a lot of that type of guild to be largely inactive outside of weekly scheduled events (once or twice often enough), or they have events that aren’t really stuff I’m super interested in after 10 years (WB runs, skyshard runs, fishing, etc. as I’ve already done all of this).

For me, #1 is being able to sell. I'm in 3 trading guilds, 1 general social guild, and 1 PVP guild. All have active traders, so I can be sure to have room to list all of my junk for sale.

I have a trading guild of course. But I also have a social/casual guild because I like being able to sign up for scheduled activities. It’s fun to be able to chat, ask/give advice during content.

I will try to explain better my feeling, and this of course only concern me. First and above all, as i said i met wonderfull people.

Then, so you can understand better i am 70+ old, gran'ma and my fun is not doing money but giving away. This enter in conflict with guilds. At least some i knew. (to compensate the guild i would usually give directly the rare items that would bring money to the guild and i was still using the trader and buying from the guild)
I was not giving away all day long and each day of the week, but when i had some nice stuff to give away i could post in a special day 2 or 3 times to just offer freely,
And this is when i was ordered to stop, and that my show off was not welcome. Now i was in the guild for some years, and never had any issue doing this. I do not keep any anger of this, just that i decided to leave the guild. And guess what ?
i feel really better to not have to *behave* and do just what i want.

I give away lot of stuff on the Zone chat, and i am just happy like that. Thus why i love my freedom and decided to not join any guild.
Probably the rebel in the gran'ma memory :P

Again, remember i do not hold any bad feelings, i just explain why i will not join any guild

I'm in a few. I don't do discord so I get minimal communications apart from one guild who chat in game all the time and they're great.

I use the other guilds to sell my rings and necklaces (no Summerset) and maps.

I'm in two private guilds run by myself and my partner, for guild bank storage amongst ourselves and a few trusted comrades.

Two more for trading. I only join guilds that don't have requirements more stringent than "1: Don't be a jerk. 2: Must show as online at least once every few months, or we'll assume you don't play the game anymore when we clean out inactives for new members." I donate to my trading guilds what I can when I can every few days, and we have traders in good locations almost every week. But if they made that sort of tithing mandatory or added sales requirements, I'd immediately pull all my listings and leave. I don't play games to have a second/third/whatever job. It's bad enough that ESO is starting to feel more like another job to me than a game these days.

One more guild purely for free teleports and because I have a lot of nostalgia for the guild house, back when we held parties there. This guild doesn't bother with traders. (Technically, all five guilds are for free teleports.)

I have all guild chats (and zone chat) turned off, unless there's a guild event going on I want to follow, or if someone may need some help I'm qualified to give. I just stick with local chat, personal chat, and few non-English zone chats that have low activity. This gives me the peace and solitude I need, even while being part of huge communities in-game. I try to be kind and helpful, but I'm still very much a loner. :)

If ZOS gave us the ability to sell items without requiring trading guilds, would I leave those guilds? Naaaaaaaaaaah. At least not any time soon. I still get plenty of benefit out of being in guilds that doesn't revolve around trading. (I think it'd be really nifty if we had personal sales slots, where you could list items from a banker like you do guild stores that go into some kind of global player store or special vendors, but could still sell through guilds for extra slots.)

For me, the entire reason for playing an online game is to work with others to achieve a common goal.

While this can be done passively in pugs and fighting alongside others in Cyrodiil or when fighting world bosses, it's most fun in a coordinated team.

It goes beyond the specific activity like a trial or grouping for pvp and extends to helping each other get geared up, developing strategies and sharing tips.

I'm not active in my trade guilds beyond paying dues and selling items, but I'm active in pvp and trial guilds if I'm part of one.

primary reason im in guilds almost since the game launch was to be able to sell items lol

back before public guild traders were a thing, i always had 5 trade guilds to sell as much as possible

with public guild traders ive scaled back to 2 active and 2 medium/low active trade guilds so im not burning out keeping everything stocked since stuff sells a lot faster

nowadays i also have a guild for running group content (mostly trials)
    plays PC/NA
    handle @Necrotech_Master
    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities

It's varied from time to time. Mostly, just to have a group of people to play with. I've had phases where I like trials, vet dungeons, and other group content, so I'll seek out a bunch of guilds and stay with whatever ones feel the best. I've had other phases where I get into trading, and try a few guilds. Just given having a newborn, I'm really focused on casual gameplay, so I've limited my guild memberships. Right now, I'm in two guilds with people I've known for a while. That way, I play when I can and it's not about quotas or something.

My main guild is for trading. I also joined a trials group there and am enjoying that. I don’t really do much socializing other than that, and as someone else said everything is on discord now and I barely tolerate that platform. It’s a donation based guild with a trader in a good location so I make sure to support that.

I am also in a solo players guild, but activity in text chat is practically nonexistent. Used to be fairly active.

I joined another guild that was doing cool stuff like running Scrivener’s Hall and Bastian Nymic back when Necrom came out, in fact, that is where I met them. They didn’t do that long and now I’m not doing anything there.

So…pretty much just one guild. I should probably leave the others but I keep hoping something will happen there.

I only joined a guild for the social aspect, but zos don't really do anything to nurture that. The game I played before this had shared guild houses, guild and alliance events, and shared goals that everyone worked towards.

It really built up a sense of community and so many new players were welcomed in and trained up. We were part of an alliance who helped each other run endgame content, and we rarely had to queue/pug for anything because we could run most things within guild/alliance.

It's the only thing I really miss from that game, and one thing I think is lacking from ESO.

I find a Guild with a trader that does not cost anything because if you want to make any real amount of gold the game Requires it. Finding those Guilds is a hassle because there is no way to research anything. It's archaic. They just have a list of all the Guilds in the game, in no particular order. You can't even look up a specific Guild by its Name.

They create a system that they Demand you use, if you want to effectively make gold in the game, and then they don't even Try to make a comprehensive and efficient system for players to Find active Guilds that suit their needs.
