Always getting stuck on items?

Is it me or is getting stuck on items in the game getting worse? Or am I just getting old? lol. I swear, I'm either getting stuck or my mount is always running into something and can't get out. There's always something in the way. I'm doing the Necrom quest, and Laramil is up my bottom, and I can't jump away because I'm stuck on rocks or whatever. I have a new controller, it's updated. It's just really annoying. I don't remember the game play like this in the beginning. Just seems to be getting worse or more object in the way. I need to be a ghost.

What? I find it very enjoyable to have to mount to get over a rock, or log, or wall that is thigh-high on my player. Climbing is for peasants.

lol. Well I'd also like to say I love for my mount to jump over everything too, but either it does't jump or it catches on something. Most of time I'm up in the air while my mount bounces off everything and eventually lands into an enemy. Yeah, thta's fun too. :D

I bring it up only because I never know if it's me, the game, xbox, or I am going crazy.

Your observation is the same as mine. Playing sans mount.

It seems some rocks are either new or redesigned to snag your feet.
It seems that many more bushes are are stickier and more difficult to get out of.
Some hills seem steeper and more difficult to find the 'right' angle to use to run up.
There are now invisible barriers on static items near world bosses to prevent you climbing up and soloing them easily.

I used to be able to 'wiggle' my way out of trapping situations, I now need to reverse out and navigate around the items.

This creates a sense of FUN and gameplay SATISFACTION that is truly UNBELIEVABLE. I know that I don't believe it.

There have been a number of places where I used to be able to scamper up a pathway on ledges or cracks in rocks that I can't anymore.
I always assumed they got edited out when it was discovered that a cliff or 'impasse' was passable.

otoh, as I progress in the game - I become a master of the universe, a force to be reckoned with.
And then I get stopped by a pebble, or small branch.

The ones that really grind me are - after finding a pathway up an embankment I'm almost at the top, and I'm blocked by knee-high scenery in front of me that I can't step or jump over.

Edit to add: And enemies I can clearly see, but there's a waist high obstruction that I can't attack beyond, while NPCs can hit me through treetrunks and rocks, or walls.

Yes, the last one is one I forgot about.

Then there's the enemies who wait until you're on the last lock-tumbler before they attack.

I'm almost fairly confident (maybe) that there's now a random 'increased difficulty' on lock picking, Where, despite your best attempts you can't get it done first attempt and without breaking a pick. One tumbler just bounces around and refuses to lock down. Next attempt with a new pick however, is beautifully fast and easy.

    thigh high?

I'm pretty sure if the stone is 3 inches high it is equivalent to a 6 foot wall. better to go around than attempt to jump over.

I hate jumping in this game, seems like jumping is never done right in any MMO i have played. Especially jumping up from water is awful since you cannot really get any speed just by swimming, you have to continuosly jump in water to get any speed and then timing the jump just right gets real difficult. So when trying to get up to pier that seems to be low down on the surface of water, i get stuck even if i clearly am jumping above the pier, always just splashing back down.

    Not that I've noticed.

But I embarrassingly repeatedly get stuck in the same place in Necrom near the daily questgivers. Jumping over the railing as a "shortcut" and getting stuck on the tent.

Should we able to get stuck there? Probably not.

But I also shouldn't be leaping over railings and especially not somewhere I know I'm likely to get stuck.

    Will I stop?

    Probably not.

They've definitely changed the way the character controller works a few times over the years. Some patches seem worse than others. I remember on the PTS years they made some change that was so bad I could barely walk up most stairs in most houses, thankfully that seemed to have been partially rectified.

I haven't noticed anything new or egregiously jarring since I started playing again but it isn't quite as smooth as it was many years ago and I often find myself (rightfully) avoiding certain areas that I've learned are problems now that never used to be - a good example would be the stairs after the second boss in Banished Cells I. It used to be you could just glide up like you'd expect, now you have to hit the stairs at a slight angle or avoid the direct center if you don't want to snag on them. It annoys the ever-living [snip] outta me but what can I do?

EDIT: For the record I've always found the character controller in ESO to be rather amateurish - sorta on the Jimquisition game review spectrum of functional but definitely not refined. As a person that has spent countless months of my life creating and perfect these kinds of systems it really gets to me sometimes. Everything from the way my character slighty hitches after a short fall, to ramp off of sloped surfaces because I'm moving slightly too fast, to the slight bounce when you hit a surface while airborn and especially ESPECIALLY the fact that if you are pressing against a wall while attempting to jump over it the friction will cause your jump to be shorter, requiring you to slightly back up and jump ever so slightly before touching the wall.

This is an observation i myself have had too. and you can see it in real time, to a degree. My theory (that im way to lazy to go dig up proof, but like, look around, youll see it)

everytime they introduce a new zone/chapter/dungeon, they reuse a lot of old assets. no reason to remake that tree that already exists, right? so take 'asset_cyrodiiltree_051' (just an item text example similar to what you might see in other games, idk what coding they use in ESO) from Cyrodiil and place it in gold road, BOOM, tree problem solved! need to block this destroyed house doorway? 'Asset_DoorRubble_02' to the rescue!

I think they do this for lots of rock features, rubble piles, etc. However, they do seem to resize many of these objects.example: Oh, gold road houses are just /slightly/ smaller than older ESO houses... lets take 'Asset_DoorRubble_02' and shrink it 4% to fit this door frame. Perfect! and those rocks we are lining the road with? they are from Reapers march, but , damn, just slightly too small... lets increase size of "Asset_ReaperRock_666' by 10%, PERFECT!

The problem? Suddenly trees are floating in cyrodiil, door rubble is levitating in the middle of a doorframe, and every [snip] rock you walk over is suddenly a tripping hazard.

Idk if its still there after this downtime (i havent checked since, but it was there last week) go to Cyrodiil, Eastern AD gate. the little pond with the waterfall past the hut with the merchants on the left, look at the rocks at the base of the waterfall, then look at the waterfall itself, and tell me they didnt resize those lmao. I will see stuff like this after nearly every chapter/DLC release. I used to report it, but seeing tears in the fabric of reality as I stare into the abyss that is no mans land beneath the world where a rock used to be is just funny now.

*spoiler* the rock wall is literally held up by nothing, the waterfalls (3 of them) are a solid 2 meters above and away from the rock face, originating and ending in nothing

I can't get anywhere near a wheelbarrow, or else I will, almost without fail, end-up caught between the handles.
And I've lost count of how many trees I've walked or jogged into. Does the game just bump you around them?
Nope. You end-up walking in place, face-first up against the tree until you realize what's happening.

The frustration is STRONG with this theme.

I have been known on occasion, to rage-attack trees, roots, pebbles, small lanterns, randomly placed farm equipment...

      Also, GUARDS-THAT-WALK-SLOWLY-THROUGH-NARROW-DOORWAYS :#

I would pay a stupid-amount of money to have a feature that just lets me RUN OVER them on a mount or shove them out of the way.
Wouldn't kill them no, but would def knock them down and my gods that would feel so satisfying :D
