ESO is only missing one unupdated element to be perfect and we almost have it!

When ESO was released, the game had potential, but it lacked elements that I personally value due to the young age of the game. Over time, these elements started to be introduced: housing, outfit station, more customization, sticker book, better automatic LFG tool, recent group tool, DX11, etc. The only last element I miss is smoother animations, especially for those actions that we constantly perform and are the oldest, non-modernized elements to this day, e.g., the Light Attack animation, Heavy Attack, especially for staff, run animation, jump. With the appearance of the Arcanist class, and now the scribing skills, you can see that ESO can have butter-smooth animations!

I know that updating the vanilla animations comes with a significant risk of rejection by some players due to our diverse personalities and tastes. However, new basic animations such as running, attacking, and dodging could be added as part of the already extensive customization system; It would be amazing!

Really wish they could update the animations of melee skills so as not to "require" a cast time to line up the hit.

The staff animations aren't even vanilla. At release, staves had vastly different looking heavy attacks. They were changed 1 or 2 years after release. I find them significantly inferior to the vanilla animations. Particularly lightning staff looked so cool back then; now it looks silly.

I wouldn't mind if light attacks were changed to not be weavable (as in, have them trigger the global cooldown in combat), but it would take a whole rework to do that. It would look so much better, for sure. And it would somewhat narrow the skill gap, which was a goal they'd cited in the past.

But, it'd be such a rework that it's hard to say whether it would be overall better or not.

As long as we could still pew pew/slash slash outside of combat without the cooldown lol. That responsiveness feels nice.

I always liked the new fire and ice animations and especially idle pose. Unfortunately, I'm now using a lightning staff.

Honestly none of those feels dated much, but weapon stances. They're especially bad with shock staff and two handed weapons which are kinda nonsensical. Personalities should come with at least some variations of those to begin with.

just to note: changing Templar spear animations was a downgrade, not an upgrade for my tastes.

It's incredibly frustrating that with all the janky animations and horrid cast times still in this game, they somehow decide to butcher a beloved classic that wasn't broke and didn't need a fix. I have friends who quit the game over this.

Maybe we could get some info from any of the devs about updating older/vanilla animations? I know that in a QnA some time ago, the devs stated that the animations are just fine, but maybe their opinion has changed recently, considering how the scribing skills look.
