FIX for Unknown Error after Character Selection

This may not work for everyone, but for me the problem was an add-on. More specifically a readme.txt and a license.txt file that were being parsed by the add-on manager.
Anyway . . . on the character selection screen hit the Add-on option on the left and completely deselect anything that looks odd. Even if you don't have any add-ons, click that Add-on option and see if anything is in there.

✭✭The add-on problem has been identified as the Spam Filter add-on. Author has been notified via ESOUI.com.
