I love it! :relaxed: I would be happy too if in the future, we also get some ESO+ paintings of base game and earlier chapter/DLC zones as these are really nice and the in-game paintings too have gotten better over the years.

I was so happy when they first brought the paintings for ESO+ and I still enjoy every single one! The statuettes are also nice for decoration, but large pictures are so much better for the countless bare walls of the houses.

Early on I really like the statuettes because at first there were surprisingly few small decorative furnishings and the ones which were available were hard to get, so I kept ending up with lots of big furnishings with bare surfaces and the statuettes were helpful for adding some decoration. The antiquities system has helped a lot with that though, with the added benefit that you're not so restricted on how many you can add.

I agree the paintings are nice too, especially because they tend to be big, and you can put the same one in multiple houses so I don't need to choose.

Yes it is free. I didn't subscribe to ESO Plus for the paintings, but for a lot of other stuff.

So the paintings for me are a gift, are free.

What would I call it then if I'm an ESO Plus member and still had to pay for those paitings? Double payment? ;)

Sure it is. It doesn't cost anything extra. You just have to be a Plus subscriber to get it, but it doesn't add any extra cost.

I love my little Azura statuette. So pleased I caught that one.

Have a random selection of other statuettes which I would never use. Cos, like, if you're not into that Daedric Prince / god / whatever, it's a nothing.

Paintings like this which are purely decorative will probably get used more in homes.

    They are not free.

They are a well known perk for subscribers. It’s made very open for other players to see to entice them to get eso+.

Not only are these things expected, but there are threads complaining that new ones sometimes come out too slowly.

There are plenty of things in the subscription service. Craft bags, extra bag space, faster leveling, etc. Just because someone gets eso+ for the craft bag, it does not mean everything else is free.

“I got a brand new car with a big engine, and they gave me the trunk space and tires for free!”
    It is not "free" ;)

Sure it is. It doesn't cost anything extra. You just have to be a Plus subscriber to get it, but it doesn't add any extra cost.

The painting did not spontaneously appear out of nowhere.
An artist drew it. Someone made it into an in-game painting. A few people discussed the overall look and size of it. Other people discussed the timing of when it would appear. And other people had to set up the item on the store.
It has cost, and you are paying for that cost with your subscription.

Today too many people seem to not understand that games cost money to produce. They don’t seem to understand why chapter updates cost money, or items in the store should not all be given to them for no extra cost.

You all love the painting. Fantastic. Personally stuff like this does not seem very lore friendly. “The daedric planes are strange places full of terrors and no one knows much about them…. Here is an accurate painting of one!” But whatever…

For zos it’s a fomo device to keep people subscribed constantly and consistently. Nothing you get, from any game company for any reason, is free.

The way I look at it, if I buy a membership for something that provides a list of benefits, I’m paying for all the benefits listed. If, from time to time, the company throws in an extra perk not on the list for me having the membership, that’s a free perk that I didn’t expect and that I accept with gratitude.

Nobody's saying there was no cost in producing the item. It's "free" in the sense that the end product is given away for free. There's no reason to analyze deeper. It's simple.

"Available at no extra charge" would probably be a better description, but it's also a lot longer.

Whether you consider it to be a free bonus or part of what you're paying for probably depends on your priorities and which parts of the subscription package interest you. Sometimes I've signed up for a month of ESO+ partially because I wanted the 'free' crown store item/s (if the 30 days you pay for doesn't align with calendar months you can get 2 of them) and then I certainly wouldn't say it was free because I was spending money I might not otherwise have spent to get it. But it also didn't cost any more than if I'd subscribed at another time, and for people who are already paying for the on-going benefits it is pretty much free.

However you see it I think it's important for all subscribers to be aware of what's included in the subscription, and what's not included. The one that always gets me is people thinking the daily login rewards are part of ESO+ when they're actually available to everyone. More than once I've talked to someone who kept paying for ESO+ only for that reason - which is a complete waste of money because they're paying for something that's genuinely free.

It's a "No extra cost, time limited redeemable" for ESO+ members. I think the real complaint is that the title doesn't have the ESO+ qualifier. Given that there are occasional free for everyone (who has bought the game) items in the crown store someone is bound to be disappointed coming in after seen that title.

It was not given away for free. If it was then why the need to “buy” it (for no crown cost) from the crown store? It’s to advertise the perk to non eso+ players. And try to drum up additional eso+ subscriptions.

If it was a promotion like "Buy this car, get a trunk space and tires for free", yes, they're not free (as they were probably added to the car cost).

I start paying ESO Plus like 9 years ago and at that moment it didn't have any free statues, paintings or anything like that.

So they are a wonderful thing that ZOS added for FREE.

If you buy that car with a big engine and 10 years later the car seller gives your tires and you don't have to pay extra for them, yes, they are free.

See it as you want, it's your opinion, and I obviously do not share it at all.

I've been playing on and off since launch and I don't think you want to bring history into this one.

At launch the subscription included access to all content. Including DLC.

Then later they decided to start making subscribers buy DLC instead.

Which is why ESO has the confusing chapter / DLC distinction. Instead of admitted they changed what subscribers get, they renamed some DLC "chapters".

I started playing at beta, they used to hand out gifts to subscribers quarterly(?) (tiger mount, etc) to encourage players to stay subscribed, this is just a spinoff from that.
Also, I may be wrong, but houses were not a thing during year one of eso.

    Well Said!

What exactly about that do you think was well said?

They claim the monthly rewards are "unexpected" and not on the "list of benefits".

Everyone knows about the monthly freebie and it is listed very clearly on the "list of benefits".

With ESO Plus membership, you will have access to exclusive Crown Store deals, including sales, free items, unique deals and more. The items available can change often (and some might only be available as part of a limited-time offer), so be sure to check the ESO Plus tab within the Crown Store UI on occasion to see what is available. ESO Plus-only sales and free or exclusive items will be indicated by gold text and the Chalice icon.

Expected or not, it's a free item... there is no charge for it. It says "FREE" on the item description.

The player has to qualify to receive these free items by being a subscriber but that doesn't make them any less free.

You don't have to pay to get it. You have to qualify.

The qualification is paying the subscription fee. There are definitely people who do that specifically to get the showcase item. I know because that used to be one factor into whether or not I subbed a particular month. I run a constant sub now but I did not used to do that.

It's a subscriber perk if it's a regular part of Plus. It's a cash shop item if it requires separate purchase. It is free if it's base game and requires no additional purchase besides playing the game.
